Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Scripture, Abraham was originally known as Abram.

Answer: True

True. Abraham, the husband of Sarah, was originally known as Abram. In Genesis 17:5, God announces Abram would become known as Abraham "for I have made you a father of many nations." Scripture goes on to tell of Abraham's wife Sarai getting Sarah as a new name.
2. One of the ten plagues unleashed by God on Egypt rendered all the people unable to speak for seven days.

Answer: False

False. There is no documentation in Scripture about one of the ten plagues unleashed on Egypt rendering all the people speechless for seven days. The plagues ranged from water being turned into blood to the death of all first born. For details about the ten plagues, see Exodus 7:14-25, 8:1-32, 9:1-35, 10:1-29 11:1-10.
3. Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron, was a prophetess.

Answer: True

True. Miriam is identified as a prophetess in Exodus 15:20. Using the NKJV and the NIV, she is the first woman in the Old Testament to have such a distinction. In addition to being a prophetess, Miriam was apparently adept at playing the timbrel, as Exodus 15:20 also tells of her leading the Israelite woman in a victory dance after the Egyptian army drowned in the Red Sea.
4. In addition to being able to interpret dreams, Joseph, the son of Jacob and Rachel, was a talented musician, according to Scripture.

Answer: False

False. There is no documentation about Joseph being a talented musician, although it is possible. However, going strictly by Scripture, the answer has to be false. Joseph, of course, was sold into slavery by his brothers who were highly jealous of him. He would go on to become the second most powerful man in Egypt and help save his family from imminent starvation.
5. Haman had ten sons who were also hanged as a result of his diabolical plan to exterminate all the Jews in the Persian empire.

Answer: True

True. In addition to Haman being hanged for his diabolical plan to exterminate all the Jews in the Persian empire, Scripture states his ten sons suffered a similar fate, as per Esther 9:7-10. Their names were Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vajezatha.
6. Demetrius was a tireless worker in the early church.

Answer: False

False. Demetrius was actually a vehement opponent of the early church. According to Acts 19:23-41, Demetrius lived in Ephesus and he was the sparkplug behind a riot that resulted in Gaius and Aristarchus, two of Paul's travelling companions, being seized. Demetrius, a silversmith who made shrines of Diana, was infuriated because the conversion of people to Christianity was taking a toll on his business. (In the NIV, it states Demetrius made shrines of Artemis.)
7. Luke, the writer of the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts, was a physician.

Answer: True

True. We know Luke was a physician because Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, describes him as "the beloved physician" in Colossians 4:14 in the NKJV. In the NIV, Paul refers to Luke as "our dear friend... the doctor".

In addition to being a worker in the early church, Luke is credited with writing the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts.
8. John the Baptist baptized scores of people in the Jordan River but there is no documentation in Scripture stating he himself was baptized.

Answer: True

True. While John the Baptist baptized scores of people in the Jordan River, there is no documentation of him being baptized. There are different views as to why he himself was not baptized. Many Christians view John as the divinely appointed forerunner of Christ and because his baptism was from God, there was no need for him to be baptized.
9. Mary expressed indignation to Jesus that her sister Martha was sitting at Jesus feet listening to Him while she was busy preparing food for guests.

Answer: False

False. It was the other way around with Mary sitting at Christ's feet listening to him while Martha was busy preparing food for guests. Luke 10:38-42 tells of Mary sitting at Christ's feet listening to Him while Martha was busy preparing food for the guests. The passage tells of Martha becoming annoyed and requesting Jesus to order her sister to lend a helping hand.

Mary and Martha were sisters and lived in Bethany with their brother Lazarus.
10. According to the book of Hebrews, Timothy was imprisoned.

Answer: True

True. Timothy was imprisoned, according to Hebrews 13:23. The verse in the NKJV states, "know that our brother Timothy has been set free, with whom I shall see you if he comes shortly." Timothy was a young and timid worker in the early church, the son of a Greek man and a Jewish woman. While the name of Timothy's father is not known, his mother was Eunice, as per 2 Timothy 1:5.
