Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While a large crowd was pressing around Jesus, a sick woman touched his clothes with the view that she would be healed. According to Mark 5: 25, what condition had she been suffering from?

Answer: Bleeding

The woman was suffering from bleeding. No further details are given in Matthew and Luke as to the type of bleeding she was suffering from. Perhaps today her condition would be known as hemophilia. Mark 5: 28 states the woman was convinced that if she simply touched Jesus' clothes she would be healed.
2. According to Mark 5:25, for how many years had the woman suffered from her condition?

Answer: 12

The woman had been suffering from the condition for 12 years. Matthew and Luke also make reference to the fact she had been suffering for 12 years. See Matthew 9: 20-22 and Luke 8: 40-47 for details.
3. How many times had the woman sought medical help for her condition? (Mark 5: 26)

Answer: On many occasions.

The Bible isn't precise, but it's abundantly apparent the woman had seen a number of doctors. Mark 5: 26 states she had spent all her money on "many" doctors, but the condition continued to worsen, instead of improve. It's interesting to note Luke, a doctor, does not state the woman had spent all her money on doctors.

Instead, he simply states in the Gospel of Luke that no one was able to heal her, as per Luke 8: 43.
4. According to Mark 5: 29, what happened as soon as the woman touched Jesus?

Answer: Immediately she was healed.

The correct answer is that immediately she was healed. Luke also uses the word "immediately" to describe how long it took the woman to be healed. And this after 12 years of seeing many doctors!
5. According to Mark 5: 30 of the NIV Bible, after Jesus was touched by the woman, what did he do?

Answer: He realized the power had gone from his body and he wanted to know who touched him.

He realized the power had gone from his body and he wanted to know who touched him, is the correct answer. Verse 30 states that he turned around in the crowd and wanted to know who was responsible for the power leaving his body. According to verse 27, the woman had come up behind him when she touched him.
6. According to Mark 5: 31, when Jesus asked who touched his clothes, what was the response of the disciples?

Answer: They were miffed as there were so many people in the crowd who were pressed against him.

They were miffed as there were so many people in the crowd who were pressed against him, is the correct answer. In Luke 8: 45, it states all the people denied touching Jesus while Peter expressed amazement at the question about who touched him. "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you," Peter said.

In other words, Peter was saying, so many people had touched him in the past minute or two, how could he be concerned about one person touching him? Christ responded in verse 46 by saying, "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me."
7. When the woman came forward to Jesus and confessed she was the one who touched him, what did she do? (Mark 5:33)

Answer: Started trembling and fell at Jesus' feet.

The correct answer is the woman started trembling and fell at Jesus' feet. Verse 33 in the NIV Bible states: "Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth." Incidentally, a synagogue ruler had fallen at Jesus' feet just shortly before this incident, as per Mark 5: 22.
8. According to the NIV Bible, in Mark 5: 34, after the woman made her confession, what did Jesus say to the woman?

Answer: "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

The correct answer is "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering." In different places in the Gospels, Jesus told the people he had healed that their faith had made them well. A classic case of this is blind Bartimaeus gaining his sight, as per Mark 10: 52.
9. True of false: The woman who was healed by touching Jesus' robe is the only incident in the Gospels of a person being cured by simply touching him, without his uttering a single word.

Answer: False

According to Scripture there were numerous occasions when people were healed by simply touching Jesus. In the NIV Bible, Mark 6: 56 puts it this way: "And wherever he went -- into villages, towns or countryside -- they placed the sick in the marketplaces.

They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed." There is a similar account in Matthew 14: 34-36.
10. In the Gospel of Mark, the story of the woman who touched Jesus is sandwiched between verses about another miracle performed by Jesus. What was that miracle?

Answer: Raising Jairus' daughter from the dead.

The story of Jesus raising Jairus' daughter from the dead begins at Mark 5: 22 and ends at Mark 5: 43. However, verses in the center of the story, 25-34, tell of this woman being healed.
