Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Anton LaVey

Answer: Church Of Satan

LaVey founded the Church of Satan in California in 1966 and followers neither worship the Judeo-Christian devil nor do they believe in the being's existence. Instead they view Satanism as a positive force representing pride and individualism. LaVey is on record as having said "anybody who believes in supernatural entities, whether they believe in the Devil or God is insane", reinforcing the religion's view that Satan is a role rather than an entity.
2. James Springer White

Answer: Seventh Day Adventist Church

The Seventh Day Adventist Church was founded in 1863, in Battle Creek, Michigan by White and his wife Ellen. Although the church has its roots in Protestant Christian teachings, Saturday is the main day of religious observances, with the main church service taking place and followers refraining from purely secular activities.

Instead they will hold community or family oriented events such as charitable works or a pot luck supper.
3. Chris Korda

Answer: Church Of Euthanasia

Korda, a transgender techo musician and software developer could have left her mark on the world just through being involved in developing the first ever 3D colour printer in 2004, but she also founded the Church of Euthanasia in Boston, Massachusetts in 1992.

The four pillars of the church are suicide, abortion, cannibalism and sodomy, while they have only one commandment, this being "thou shalt not procreate."
4. Mary Baker Eddy

Answer: Christian Science

Although Christian Science teaches the existence of one all powerful God much like the Christian Bible, it deviates in several areas. Christian Scientists do not believe in sin, sickness or death, as these do not exist according to Eddy's teachings, people only imagine that they exist.

They also believe that people can heal themselves spiritually by realising that illness does not actually exist, but is again all in the mind, and women can become pregnant by a supreme effort of their own minds without the need for a man.
5. Gerald Gardner

Answer: Wicca

Although many think that Wicca is a centuries old religion, it was devised by Gardner in the early 20th century and not introduced to the public until 1954. It is a form of neopaganism in which the Goddess and God are worshipped as equals and the belief in the Four Elements of Nature (air, fire, water and earth) is a basic tenet of the religion, although some Wiccans add a fifth element of "spirit".
6. Sun Myung Moon

Answer: Unification Church

Founded in Seoul, South Korea in 1954 by Moon, followers of this religion are often known as "Moonies" by non believers. The religion focuses on the "Divine Principle" based on observations of the creation in order to understand the Creator. Followers note that God's nature is characterised by equal masculine and feminine aspects joined together in perfect harmony, citing examples such as positive and negative charges and arteries and veins which show that for God to feel joy, people should receive love and seek an object to love.
7. Joseph Smith

Answer: Mormonism

in 1829, aged just 24, Smith published "The Book of Mormon", the sacred text of the Latter Day Saint movement, which followers believe contains texts written by ancient prophets who lived in North America between 2200 BC and 421 AD. These writings were engraved on golden plates, the location of which were revealed to Smith by an angel named Moroni, whilst he was praying one night in 1823, although it was 1827 before Smith managed to retrieve the plates. Once they were in his possession he translated the ancient writings into "The Book of Mormon" before Moroni took the plates back again.
8. Claude Vorilhon

Answer: Raelism

Raelism is a UFO religion founded in 1974 by Vorilhon after his meeting with an extra terrestrial being in 1973. Vorilhon changed his name to Rael and began his religion in Auvergne, France, teaching followers that life on Earth was scientifically created by a species of humanoid extraterrestrials, called the Elohim, who also sent prophets such as Moses, Jesus and Buddha to guide humanity.
9. Marcus Garvey

Answer: Rastafari

Garvey was a Jamaican political leader who is viewed by many Rastafari as a religious prophet, often being called the reincarnation of Saint John the Baptist. He preached his beliefs regarding a black king being crowned in Africa in the 1920s and when Emperor Hailie Selassie I of Ethiopa was crowned in 1930, Rastafarianism really took off. Rastafarian beliefs are based in Judaism and Christianity, and followers also believe that the God, Jah, was manifested on earth as Jesus.

In line with Jewish biblical Law, disciples abstain from most or all meat, artificial foods, and alcohol, although they do also believe in the use of marijuana in religious rituals and for medicine.
10. Aleister Crowley

Answer: Thelema

Occultist, chaos magick practitioner and "the wickedest man in the world", Crowley founded the Thelema religion in Cairo in 1904, invoking followers to "Do what thou wilt" and to seek to align themselves with their True Will through the practice of magick. Crowley believed that the "Holy Books of Thelema" were dictated to him by Aiwass, the messenger of Egyptian deity Horus.
