Brazil beat Sweden 5-2 in the Final to claim their first title. Neither Argentina or Paraguay made it past the Group Stage. Argentina finished last in Group 1, and Paraguay finished third in Group 2 which was not enough to advance.
2. Hungary and Mexico were the two sides to go out from Group 3. What was the score when they met?

Answer: 4-0

The runners-up from the previous year went out in the Group Stage, finishing third in Group 3, but when they faced Mexico, they picked up their only win of the tournament, beating them 4-0. Hungary went into halftime a goal up, Lajos Tichy scoring in the 19th minute.

A minute into the second half, Tichy scored his second. Karoly Sandor made it 3-0 in the 54th minute, then Jozsef Bencsis sealed it off in the 69th minute.
3. Who finished top of Group 1?

Answer: West Germany

Group 1 was made up of four teams; West Germany, Northern Ireland, Czechoslovakia, and Argentina. West Germany finished top with 4 points. Northern Ireland also went through in second place with 3 points, and beating Czechoslovakia (who also finished with 3 points) in a playoff. Argentina finished bottom with just 2 points.

The Best Goalkeeper award was eventually to be re-named after the great Russian goalkeeper Lev Yashin. Hungarian Gyula Grosics won the award in 1954. Czech Frantisek Planicka won the award in 1938. Spaniard Ricardo Zamora won the award in 1934.
