On August 7,1999, Wade Boggs of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' homered off Cleveland Indians' pitcher Chris Haney in the 6th inning making him the 23rd Major Leaguer to reach the 3,000 hit mark. Just one day earlier Tony Gwynn of the San Diego Padres singled off Montreal Expos' rookie pitcher Dan Smith placing him in the historic 3,000 hit-club.

The St. Louis Cardinals' third-baseman Fernando Tatis' two grand-slam homers came in St. Louis' 11-run 3rd inning. He also sets a record with eight RBIs in the inning, while LA Dodgers pitcher Chan Ho Park becomes the 1st pitcher this century, and only the 2nd ever, to surrender two grand-slams in a single frame. Bill Phillips of the Pirates did so in 1890.

'I-Rod' led the Rangers to a American League West Title and was voted the AL MVP in 1999. His season highlights included a 20 game hitting streak and a 2 homer game with 9 RBI's on April 13th against the Seattle Mariners.

He also won his 8th consecutive Gold Glove.

Answer: Jim Morris

"The Rookie", a film released in 2002 which reveals the life story of Jim Morris. His baseball career was sidelined 12 years earlier by a shoulder injury. While teaching science and coaching the high school baseball team, his players urged him to try out for the Majors if they won the District Championship.

They did and he did. Morris makes his ML debut by fanning Royce Clayton. At 36, he becomes the oldest rookie pitcher since Diomedes Olivo, age 40, with Pittsburgh in 1960.

The RBI mark was held by Jim LaFountain of Louisville who drove in 14 against Western Kentucky in 1976.
