Rangers was officially formed in 1873. A common mistake would be saying Rangers was formed in 1872 which is when the founders first decided to make a football team. The club was not officially recognised as a football team until 1873.

Answer: George McThorn

Moses McNeil, along with his brother Peter and his friends Peter Campbell, William McBeath and Tom Vallance, decided in 1872 to make a football team. Tom Vallance was Rangers' first-ever captain. Moses McNeil was Rangers' first-ever internationally capped player who played for Scotland against Wales in 1876.
3. Where did the founders get the name "Rangers" from?

Answer: A rugby book

The founders were apparently looking through a rugby book when they saw the name. They decided to adopt this name.
