Answer: Connie Mack

The others were all National League managers and retired before 1900. Mack managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1894-1896, then took the helm of the Philadelphia Athletics of the new American League in 1901. He kept the team for 50 seasons. Retiring with the most wins of 3731, he also retired with the most losses of 3948.
2. 1951 was the year of the 'Shot Heard Around the World', a home run by Giants' Bobby Thomson who pickled the Dodgers' hopes of a World Series appearance. The Giants had another hero who won the Rookie of the Year award in 1951. Who was it?
