Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is significant about a 1982 play that ended John Elway's college career (He was not on the field at the time)?

Answer: He watched from the sideline as the opponents lateraled their way to victory on the final play of the season

He watched The Cal Bears toss 5 laterals on their way to victory in the "The Play". On a side-note, John didn't want to play for the Baltimore Colts.
2. What 2006 stadium had the largest seating capacity in the NFL?

Answer: FedEx Field (Redskins)

In 2006, FedEx Field had a seating capacity for 91,704 mildly supportive Redskins fans. It is also unique as it was the only NFL stadium where the fans change their team preference mid-game according to what the national polls say the American people want. Often this is referred to wavering, but usually goes unnoticed because of an ongoing war in the parking lot.
3. In 2004, John Lynch signed with the Denver Broncos. He is known as one of the hardest hitting safeties in the NFL. However, he was part of a Florida based franchise first. What organization was he part of?

Answer: He was a pitcher in the Florida Marlins organization

He threw the first pitch for the entire Florida Marlins organization (Minor and Major League) in a 1992 minor league game. He was released after a brief moment of confusion when he launched himself at a teammate who caught a pop up, breaking his collar bone.
4. What was Tennessee's NFL franchise known as the season prior to being renamed, and moving into their 1999 city and stadium.

Answer: Tennessee Oilers

After the Oilers moved from Houston, they settled in Memphis as the Tennessee Oilers. In 1999, they moved their Franchise to Nashville and changed their name to the Titans. They chose Titans because the name Sissies, their first choice, would reveal the false premise that Nashville is a tough "country boy" city.
5. The 1972 Miami Dolphins are sometimes misrepresented as the only team to finish a season undefeated. They are actually known for being the first to go 14-0 as well as win an NFL Championship. What team finished 2 seasons undefeated before the NFL-AFL merger, but did not win an NFL Championship?

Answer: Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears went undefeated in the 1934 and 1943 regular seasons, but lost both Championship games.
6. The Cardinals at one point were one of the worst sports franchises in history when they set a record low in 1933 for what?

Answer: Fewest PAT's in a season

The Cardinals set the record with only two PAT's for an entire season. In no way does this reflect a losing tradition for the Cardinals.
7. What Chicago great and NFL Hall of Famer scored 6 rushing touchdowns in one game?

Answer: Ernie Nevers

Chicago Cardinals great fullback Ernie Nevers scored 6 rushing touchdowns in a game in 1929. Gale Sayers and Dub Jones scored 6 touchdowns in a game as well, but not all of them were on rushing plays.
8. This running back had his single game rushing record broken by Jamal Lewis in 2003. Despite his lofty career numbers, he only has one Super Bowl ring. Who is he?

Answer: Corey Dillon

Corey Dillon rushed for 278 yards against Denver in 2000. Prior to him, Walter Payton rushed for 275 yards in a 1977 game. Dillon was part of the 2004 New England Patriots Championship team. He, unlike Payton, scored a touchdown in the game.
9. Three Hall of Fame running backs were born in Kansas from 1943 to 1968, two of them in the same city. Who was the odd man out of the Kansas running backs?

Answer: John Riggins

John Riggins was born in Seneca, while Sayers and Sanders were both born in Wichita. Chicago Bears great and El Dorado, Kansas, native Bobby Douglass was a great runner, but he was a quarterback not a running back.
10. What was the overall regular season win percentage of the 1972 Miami Dolphins opponents?

Answer: .375

.375 is one of the lowest percentages in history. They also barely scraped by their playoff opponents.
