Answer: 1882

They officially registered with the Irish FA on 7th November, 1882.
2. What two struggling teams merged to form the Glens?

Answer: Oakfield and Nettlefield

The 2 struggling junior sides amalgamated instead of disbanding, and played their games at Ormeau Park.
3. In what year was The Oval bombed by the Germans?

Answer: 1941

On the night of May 4/5 1941, the German Luftwaffe bombed the Shipyards at Harland and Wolff, and the Oval was caught in the middle. They ground-shared with Distillery at Grosvenor until 20th August, 1949.
4. The Glens were the first Irish team to ever win a Euorpean cup. What was it called and in what year was it won?

Answer: Vienna Cup, 1914

Believe it or not its true, and its still in the trophy cabinet to this day.
5. In 1967 when Glentoran toured the USA, what name did they use?

Answer: Detroit Cougars

Glentoran took the Detroit Cougars name, Shamrock Rovers played as Boston, Sunderland played as Vancouver, Wolves played as Los Angeles, Stoke City as Cleveland and Hibernian played as Toronto.

Answer: Colrain

John Colrain scored the penalty against the great Benfica keeper Henrique. It finished 0-0 in Portugal and Benfica went through on away goals, but were beaten in the final in 1968 by Manchester United (under the management of Sir Matt Busby). The Glens were the first team to hold Benfica to a goaless draw in a European game at the Stadium of Light.
7. Who was the Glentoran manager when they lifted the Gibson Cup in 1981?

Answer: Ronnie Mcfall

Indeed. Ronnie "it was offside" Mcfall (now of Portadown infamy) lead them to league success in 1981. They wouldn't win it again for 6 seasons.
8. Who scored the injury-time winner against Linfield in the Irish Cup semi-final of 99/00?

Answer: Sean Armstrong

Linfield equalised in the 92nd minute to draw level at 2-2. Then, virtually from the restart, Sean Armstrong clinched it for the Glens in the 4th minute of injury time. The Linfield fans were still cheering as the goal was scored. Glentoran went on to beat Portadown in the final with a single headed goal from Ian Gilzean.
9. Who did Glentoran play in the Quarter-Final of the Cup Winners Cup in the 1973/74 season?

Answer: Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia won 2-0 at the Oval and 5-0 at the Bokelbergstadion, with a team that contained Berti Vogts and Rainer Bonhof to name but a few.

Answer: True

Indeed they did. This strange honour was taken by Brian Russell when he scored against linfield at the oval in December '99.
