Answer: Joe McCarthy

McCarthy was a great manager from 1931-1946, but his job was made easy with the All-Star roster that the Yankees had. With the likes of Gehrig, Dickey, DiMaggio, Henrich, and Joe Gordon, the Yankee arms were at the top of the league also with Red Ruffing, Monte Pearson, and Lefty Gomez.

The Yankees went to the World Series 7 times in that span, winning 6 times. Ralph Houk managed the team for 11 years. Casey Stengel and Miller Huggins helmed the team for 12 seasons each.
2. In what year did the New York ballclub become the Yankees?

Answer: 1913

The New York Highlanders blossomed into the Yankees after the 1912 season, after the Highlanders began in 1903. The Highlanders played at Hilltop Park, while the new Yankees played their home games at the Polo Grounds. It would be 9 seasons before the Polo Grounds hosted the Yankees first World Series in 1921.
3. Who was the first Yankee to hit a batting average over .380 in a season?

Answer: Babe Ruth

Ruth set the league on fire in 1923 by batting .393, earning himself the American League MVP. He also hit 41 home runs along with smacking 205 hits. In addition, he launched the Yankees into the World Series, and beat their crosstown rival New York Giants 4 games to 2. DiMaggio hit .381 in 1939.

The Babe's first 50+ season was in 1920 when he popped 54 big ones. He broke his own season home run record the following year when he hit 59 in 1921. In 1927, he smacked 60 home runs for the most famous asterik in baseball history, playing in a 154 game season vs. Roger Maris' mark of 61 while playing in a 162 game season. The following year in 1928, Ruth hit 54 again.

Answer: Carl Mays

Carl Mays broke his own team record in 1921 by winning 27 games. His old mark was 26 wins in 1920. 1920 was Mays' first full season with the Yankees after coming from Boston. Jack Chesbro once won 41 games, but in a New York Highlander uniform.
7. Yogi Berra set a Major League mark for appearing in how many World Series?

Answer: 14

Yogi should have set up a tent when the World Series came around. Of the 14 appearances, the Yankees won all but 4. The first was in 1947, which started a streak of winning 6 World Series, and ended in 1963 with a loss, by the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the great Sandy Koufax.

Answer: Don Mattingly

Mattingly broke Earl Combs' record of 231 in 1927, by smacking 238 in 1986. The previous season, Mattingly produced 211 hits for the Yankees. In 1984, Mattingly hit 207 times. These were his only seasons in his career of producing 200 hits in a season.
9. Which of the following Yankee greats, who topped their career with 2,000 strikeouts?

Answer: None listed

None of these greats have done it. The closest was Whitey Ford, who retired with 1,956 K's. No Yankee pitcher had reached this mark throughout the entire 20th century. Ron Guidry set a Yankee season strikeout record by fanning 248 batters in 1978.

An amazing 4 seasons in a row of loyal pinstripe fans passed through the gates of Yankee stadium. The first time in their history was in 1999 when 3,292,736 came out. In 2002, almost 3.5 million fans cheered their New York Yankees.
