Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A painting, which depicts Data's android daughter, is shown to a scientist visiting the Enterprise in this episode.

Answer: Inheritance

Following the briefing in the Observation Lounge, Dr. Juliana Tainer had been hoping to get to know her android 'son'. Despite his skepticism, as well as after a heart-to-heart talk with his friend Geordi, Data wishes to get to know his 'mother' just the same.

While the two are spending time together in his quarters, he is showing off several of his paintings to her. Among them is a brilliant creation of Lal, the very-shot-lived android daughter he created back in Season 3's "The Offspring".
2. Picard, after being served a drink by an alien female, gets his bald scalp gently stroked by a second alien female.

Answer: Redemption, Part 1

One of my favorite scenes from this fourth season cliffhanger is when Picard is meeting with the Duras sisters down on the Klingon homeworld. Lursa and B'Etor are showing the Enterprise's captain an uncanny amount of friendliness and hospitality, all in an attempt to persuade him, in his role as Arbiter Of Succession, to elect Toral as the new leader of the Klingon Empire.

The friendliness and hospitality includes Lursa offering Picard some of his favorite Earl grey tea with B'Etor provocatively stroking Picard's bald head while he is seated in a chair. Picard intelligently senses Romulan involvement in their proposal and ultimately rules in favor of Gowron, deciding that Toral hasn't yet proven himself to be a true warrior.
3. Picard and Dr. Crusher are walking out of the Cargo Bay together after seeing aliens transport off the Enterprise; as they are exiting through the doors, Yar is waving in the distance, but she isn't waving at the captain nor the doctor.

Answer: Symbiosis

This was more of an intentional blooper than a memorable moment! Actress Denise Crosby's final scene of taping had originally been for the scene where the Brekkians and the Onarans are transporting off the Enterprise with their supply of felicium via the Cargo Bay; Picard, Dr. Crusher and Crosby's Tasha Yar character had been present.

As Picard and Crusher are exiting through the Cargo Bay doors, we see a glimpse of Yar, in the distance, waving to the camera as a farewell to signify her then-final appearance on the show. Of course, we know the actress would be brought back for several of the show's productions later down the road, most notably to reprise her role as Tasha Yar in both the series finale, "All Good Things...", and "Yeterday's Enterprise".
4. Worf is in bed inside his quarters, restless and unable to sleep; when he finally gets out of bed, he races from place to place around the room, ripping the stuffing out of his bed mattress before laying down on the floor with only a single pillow to rest his head on.

Answer: Genesis

This was one of the many early indicators in this episode that something wasn't quite right with the Enterprise crew. We see Worf being unable to sleep in his quarters, getting out of bed and proceeding to move about like he's some kind of wild animal hunting for its prey.

After a few intense moments of him practically racing across every inch of the room, he savagely rips the stuffing out of his bed mattress, then takes a pillow and lays down on his carpeted floor. Presumably, whatever Worf is eventually discovered to be 'de-evolving' into came with the instinct that the floor is a more comfortable and appropriate place for him to rest instead of his bed.
5. Dr. Crusher, while in sickbay, discovers that a bomb that was detonated onboard an alien ship had been implanted inside the arm of one of the victims killed in the bomb's explosion.

Answer: Reunion

Following the bomb that went off while Picard and Ambassador K'Ehleyr were onboard the Klingon ship, a medical investigation on the part of Dr. Crusher reveals that there were no external wounds found on the body of one of the Klingons killed in the explosion.

She explains to Riker that there are wounds in the forearm, however, which they deduce was caused by an implant using microscopic technology only used by the Romulans. Riker gravely states the bomb was intended to commit suicide and to eliminate an enemy in the process. Ultimately, Duras is the one found to be responsible for the treacherous act, as he and Gowron had been competing to become the next leader of the Klingon Empire.
6. A musical concert is being held in Ten Forward in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Parallels

Music concerts were a recurring theme throughout this series. They were surely intended to not only entertain us viewers, but to also show that the actors themselves did indeed have other talents in addition to their acting skills. In the third-season episode "Sarek", the Vulcan Ambassador himself is moved to tears by the music being played by Data and the other orchestra participants (Sarek's crying also ties in to the episode's plot that deals with his emotional instability). We get to enjoy a music concert again in "Lessons", where we see Picard's romantic love interest from stellar cartography, Commander Daren, playing the piano while other crewmembers accompany Daren's piano solos with their own instrumental contributions at various movements throughout the performance.

Then in Season 4's "In Theory", we see Data performing alongside a 'romantic love interest' of his own--Jenna D'Sora--when they are both performing with Keiko and two other crewmembers. After the concert, Jenna admits to Data that she didn't play her flute as well as she would've liked. So that leaves "Parallels" as the last one to be considered.

The closest thing to a concert in this episode is the surprise birthday party gathering for Worf inside his quarters that several crewmembers do attend, but there is nobody putting on an actual musical show of any kind during this event nor at any other moment during this time-traveling adventure.
7. Data is in temporary command of a Federation starship that is NOT the Enterprise-D, giving orders to a fellow lieutenant commander who doesn't like the idea of an android being in command.

Answer: Redemption, Part 2

The fifth season premiere sees Picard being granted permission to assemble a fleet of starships to take on the Romulan fleet of cloaked vessels. After a bit of questioning by Data, Picard decides to allow his resident android to captain the U.S.S. Sullivan, which had been under command by a Lieutenant Commander Dobson. Data assuming command of the Sullivan doesn't sit well with Dobson, who continually circumvents Data's direct orders while also stating his personal misgivings for having an android in command of a starship.

After the moments of tension between the two officers, Data is able to come up with a way to detect the cloaked Romulan fleet on his own. Eventually, the Romulan fleet withdraws and the Duras sisters are left to fend on their own with little support.
8. Picard receives communication in his quarters from a fellow Federation captain, which leads to the Enterprise diverting from its original planned course with only Picard meeting that captain, as well as two other captains, on a distant planet that is barren and devoid of life.

Answer: Conspiracy

In the opening teaser, the Enterprise is en route to a planet called Pacifica in order to enjoy some shore leave. Those plans are preempted by the Enterprise receiving a 'Code 47' transmission, which the captain responds to privately while inside his quarters.

He communicates with his friend and fellow captain, Walker Keel, who urges him to come to a planet called Dytallix B as soon as possible. Even after learning from Data that Dytallix is virtually a barren wasteland, three lifesigns are detected on the surface. Picard transports down to the reddish planet and slowly advances towards the entrance to the cave, where he is immediately greeted by an alien man pointing a phaser at him, then by Walker and a woman who is also aiming a phaser at Picard. Following some rigorous questioning about Picard's personal life in order to ensure he was indeed meeting with the genuine captain of the Federation's flagship, Walker introduces the woman as Captain Tryla Scott and the alien man as Captain Rixx.
9. An alien dignitary, while in her guest quarters onboard the Enterprise, receives a replicated glass of water that is first sampled by her servant; later, while down on a planet, the dignitary is given a vial of water that is also first sampled by the same servant.

Answer: The Vengeance Factor

The Acamarian leader named Marouk is invited onboard the Enterprise in order to speak with Picard, following the away team's discovery that the two Federation scientists found during the opening teaser were attacked by her people. When Riker pays Marouk a visit in her quarters, he meets her personal chef, Yuta, whom he instructs on how to use the replicator. Riker produces a glass of water for her, which Yuta takes a sip of before giving it to Marouk, explaining that she tastes everything before giving it to the Acamarian leader. Shortly afterwards, when Marouk is down on the planet speaking to The Gatherers, we see her aide pouring water into a tall vase. Yuta takes a sip, just as she did with the replicated glass of water before, then hands the vase to Marouk, all with a respectful bow.
10. A man visiting the Enterprise secretly pockets a PADD from a workstation in Engineering; later, the same man secretly pockets a tricorder while in crew quarters.

Answer: A Matter Of Time

The quirky time-traveling 'historian' who calls himself Rasmussen has the Enterprise crew believing that he's come from the 26th century and has an interest in objects and events from the past. But beneath his annoying charm is an opportunistic thief. Rasmussen first finds a moment to slip a PADD, which is sitting on a console in Engineering, into his jacket pocket while Geordi and Data are running a computer analysis related to the problem of the atmospheric conditions on the planet.

Then later, while in Data's quarters, the time traveler secretly takes a tricorder to add to his collection of pocketed tech goodies when the Enterprise's resident android is communicating to Geordi via computer terminal.

When we ultimately learn that Rasmussen isn't from the future at all, both the PADD and the tricorder, as well as a cache of various other stolen items, are discovered onboard his vessel in the Shuttlebay.
