Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nynaeve al'Meara, the Village Wisdom who was dragged off by a Trolloc in the first episode, inexplicably shows up, having tracked the party all the way to Shadar Logoth. What does she do when she finds Lan and Moiraine?

Answer: Holds a blade to Lan's throat

We see Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) arrive at the end of the second episode "Shadow's Waiting" as a cliff-hanger, and episode three "A Place of Safety" begins with the flashback of how she managed to escape the Trollocs. Essentially, the Trolloc who carried her off was distracted long enough for her to run and hide in the sacred pool (seen in the first episode). When the Trolloc followed her there, Nynaeve was able to kill it with its own blade.

As Lan (Daniel Henney) escapes Shadar Logoth with a severely injured and weakened Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), Nynaeve catches him unawares and threatens him with blade throat, demanding to know the whereabouts of the other Two Rivers youths.
2. Separated from the others, Rand and Mat discuss where to go next, and settle on where Egwene was likely to go... namely Tar Valon. When Rand comments, "They say all roads lead there," what is Mat's response?

Answer: "That's not how roads work."

Mat (Barney Harris) acts as a bit of the comedy relief in the show with his quick wit and wry humour, but it is balanced by the rough life situation he has grown up with, needing to care for his sisters because of incapable parents. Mat prefers to go home, but Rand is dead set on finding Perrin and (especially) Egwene, refusing to believe that they might have died in Shadar Logoth.

With Egwene's budding abilities with the One Power, Rand knows that she truly has no other choice, and he will not abandon her.
3. Egwene and Perrin find themselves being chased... or perhaps herded... by a pack of wolves, although they never come too close. Tired, cold and hungry, the duo stop for shelter and to hopefully make a fire to keep the wolves at bay. Do they succeed in starting a fire?

Answer: Yes

Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) makes a valiant effort to create a spark with a knife and a stone, but seems to be having no luck. When Egwene (Madeleine Madden) tries to use the One Power, a flame pops up amidst the twigs.

Gratified for the warmth and light, they are unsure which of them actually managed to start the fire, and Perrin even jokes that all they need now is to use the Power to conjure up some food and water.
4. Lan appeals to Nynaeve's sensibilities as the Wisdom of the Two Rivers, asking her to use her skills to tend to Moiraine's wound. What does Nynaeve do?

Answer: Makes a poultice and dresses the wound

Despite her mistrust of Moiraine and Lan's motives, and the danger to which Mat, Egwene, Perrin and Rand have all been exposed, Nynaeve is convinced to use her skills to try and help Moiraine.

She gathers flowers and bark from the area and uses her mortar and pestle to make a healing poultice. As she cleans the wound and prepares to administer the poultice, she pauses in consideration of Lan's link to Moiraine, letting him know that what she is about to do will be very painful.
5. Mat and Rand find a mining village called Breen's Spring where they hope to find food and shelter. As they enter the village, they see a dead man suspended over the road in a cage. Who was the man?

Answer: An Aielman

After eating dinner, Mat returns to the caged Aielman with the intent of robbing the body for any possible valuables. He is approached by another man (who will be featured in the next question), who tells Mat about the Aiel, and how this one had been killed in a cowardly way. Aiel, Mat learns, will always veil their faces when ready to fight or kill... this one had been killed with his shoufa down, thus he had either been ambushed, or murdered.
6. The two boys find an inn where they buy some food and drink and are able to hear a Gleeman sing a ballad about the man who broke the world (the last Dragon). What is the Gleeman's name?

Answer: Thom Merrilin

Thom takes center stage in the common room of the inn, briefly tuning a string on his guitar before singing his ballad. After just the one song, he leaves the stage and soon has an encounter with our boys Mat and Rand. Thom sees a pickpocket lift Mat's purse, and steals it right back from the thief. When Rand and Mat are strongly encouraged to cough up some money for the Gleeman, Mat discovers his purse missing. Thom dangles it in front of his face, then keeps it instead of returning it... ostensibly as a lesson.

Soon after, however, Thom finds Mat by the caged Aiel and together they bury the poor soul. In the process, Mat manages to reclaim his money from Thom.
7. Still on the open Caralain Plain, Perrin and Egwene come across a set of wagon tracks, and they soon meet the owners of the wagons. Who are they?

Answer: Tinkers

Perrin and Egwene are stopped by a group of people in colourful clothing who demand, "Do you know the song?" When they are unable to respond, one of them (Aram, played by Daryl McCormack) coaches them in the proper response, "Your welcome warms our spirit as your fire warms the flesh, but we do not know the song."

Egwene and Perrin are taken to their encampment, where they soon learn that the large group are called the Tuatha'an, or Traveling People... or more commonly (and derogatorily) called Tinkers.
8. It is revealed that the innkeeper in Breen's Spring is a darkfriend... one who has given their allegiance to the Dark One... and she lures Rand into a trap. In an effort to escape, what incredible feat does Rand perform?

Answer: Breaks down a door

While Mat is out burying the Aielman, the innkeeper Dana (Izuka Hoyle) brings Rand into a room that he and Mat can ostensibly use for the night. They get into a friendly conversation until Dana lets slip that she knows more about them than she should.

At first unsure of what is happening, Rand is caught by surprise and Dana grabs Rand's sword. Rand tries to escape the room, but Dana has bolted the ironwood door, tellin him that "three men your size couldn't break it down." But just a few moments later he manages to smash through the door.
9. Rand finds Mat in the street and they run, with Dana hot on their heels, sword in hand. She corners the boys and reveals that one of the Eyeless (a Fade) is coming for them, but before she can do anything else, she is killed by the Gleeman. How is she killed?

Answer: Thrown dagger

We have already seen Thom's penchant for knives, when he slipped one out of his sleeve as he approached Mat by the caged Aielman, and now we see his skill with the knife as he skewers Dana through the throat from at least ten meters away.

At first, Rand and Mat are appalled, but Thom's response is matter-of-fact: "She's a Darkfriend, boy. Sworn body and soul to the Dark One. If what she said is true, we need to leave now." And just like that, Thom joins the two boys as they continue their journey.
10. The episode ends with Lan, Moiraine and Nynaeve finding a group of Aes Sedai and Warders transporting a man in a cage. Who is the Aes Sedai (of the Red Ajah) who meets them on the road?

Answer: Liandrin Guirale

Liandrin Sedai (Kate Fleetwood) is the same Red Sister we saw in the first episode "Leavetaking" as she (and four other Reds) hunted down a man who could channel and was already going insane.

Here, she informs Moiraine and company that they have captured a man claiming to be the Dragon Reborn. Considering that Moiraine's quest has led her to the Two Rivers, can this truly be the Dragon Reborn she is seeking, or is he a False Dragon?
