Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Amyrlin Seat is introduced through her backstory, and we see Siuan Sanche as a young girl helping her fisherman father eke out a living. In which country, known for its giant fortress, did they live?

Answer: Tear

The fortress, known as the Stone of Tear, has already been mentioned in the show as a potential exotic destination to visit, but in our flashback we see it in the distant background as Siuan and her father are fishing.

Unfortunately, another thing Tear is known for (in the books, at least) is the outlawing of channeling. So it is no real surprise when the two return from their fishing to find their hut burned down and the Dragon's Fang marked on the one remaining bit of wall.

With Siuan's ability discovered, her father promptly sends her off to Tar Valon and the White Tower.

Young Siuan Sanche is played by Keira Chansa, while her father is Peter de Jersey.
2. Back to the present, the Hall of the Tower is meeting with the Sitters from all seven Ajahs to deal with Moiraine and the Aes Sedai involved with the capture of the False Dragon and his subsequent gentling. Siuan Sanche enters and is presented, "Attend you all, she comes. _______________, the Flame of Tar Valon, the Amyrlin Seat." What is her other title?

Answer: The Watcher of the Seals

'The Watcher of the Seals' is a reference to the seals on the Dark One's prison.

It is actually the Keeper of the Chronicles (Leane Sedai) who makes the announcement. The other two titles were associated with Lews Therin Telamon (the last Dragon from the Age of Legends).

The adult Siuan Sanche is portrayed by Sophie Okonedo, while her Keeper Leane Sharif is played by Jennifer Cheon Garcia.

After hearing the details of what happened with Logain, the Amyrlin lays the responsibility on Liandrin Sedai (Kate Fleetwood), who was next in command of the expedition after Kerene, who was killed. Liandrin, in turn, calls out Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) for being secretive about her mission and for withholding other information. When questioned by the Amyrlin, Moiraine refuses to give an answer.

Both Liandrin and Moiraine's judgments will come the next day, after Siuan has time to think on their respective punishments.
3. Logain Ablar is brought in to be sentenced for his actions that led to so much death and destruction. Upon hearing the Amyrlin's judgment, for what does Logain beg?

Answer: To be killed

Once gentled, a man who can channel will lose the will to live, as was previously explained by the Gleeman Thom Merrilin. When Logain (Álvaro Morte) is brought before the Amyrlin Seat, he tries to goad her by saying how easily he was able to gather an army to march on Tar Valon... because of how weak she is, and bragging about killing Kerene Sedai. Siuan, however, doesn't fall for it, and sentences him to stay alive and to be watched and studied by the Aes Sedai, "You will serve as an example to all other false Dragons and men who dare to channel."

Upon this pronouncement, Logain begs for death, "No. No. Kill me. Please! I beg you!"
4. Moiraine and Lan locate Mat and Rand at their inn, and upon seeing Mat, Moiraine is shocked at the state he is in. When she approaches Mat, how does he react?

Answer: Tries to stab her with the Shadar Logoth dagger

Still under the impression that Mat's behaviour is due to the madness of the corruption on male channelers, Rand draws his sword to defend Mat from Moiraine's advance, believing that she intends to gentle him. Lan, however, easily disarms Rand and holds him down as Moiraine approaches Mat.

Mat, at the same time, spews vile words at Moiraine, and when she draws close, whips out the dagger and tries to stab her with it. Moiraine quickly wraps it in weaves of Air, then proceeds to use the One Power to draw the black taint of Shadar Logoth out of him, at great risk to herself.

Daniel Henney portrays Lan, and Mat and Rand are played by Barney Harris and Josha Stradowski, respectively.
5. Moiraine is later met by Maigan Sedai, one of the Blue Ajah Sitters in the Hall of the Tower, from whom she receives instruction to cease her wanderings and to stay in the White Tower. In the middle of this conversation, Moiraine receives a message in the form of sprig of broomweed. From which other Ajah did it come?

Answer: Yellow

The sprig of yellow flowers was a secret signal to Moiraine from her contacts within the Yellow Ajah. The news received had to do with the arrival and securing of Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) and Egwene (Madeleine Madden). We do not see how they came to be in the care of the Yellow Ajah (healers) after their flight from the Whitecloaks, but they are now in the city and Perrin has been healed (and is recovering) from the wounds that Child Valda inflicted upon him.

Egwene tells Moiraine about their imprisonment, and gives her the collection of Aes Sedai rings that she grabbed from Valda's tent. She also describes how Perrin's eyes turned a golden yellow (like a wolf's), and Moiraine quickly recommends secrecy on this point.
6. In the late evening, Moiraine activates a ter'angreal (an object of the Power that performs a specific function) that causes her to Travel instantaneously to a secret rendezvous with Siuan, with whom she has a hidden romantic relationship. While together, Siuan reveals that she has had dreams of the Dark One... where?

Answer: At the Eye of the World

Siuan relates that her dreams of the Dark One began a few months previously and have become more and more frequent. She sees him at the Eye of the World (described later as being the place where the Dark One was imprisoned by the last Dragon).

In addition to Siuan's dreams, the two of them also discuss the progress of Moiraine's mission. Contrary to the show that they put on in front of everyone in the Hall of the Tower, Siuan is not only aware of Moiraine's mission to find the Dragon Reborn, she is the only other Aes Sedai who knows the truth of the matter. It was the two of them as Novices who witnessed Gitara Sedai's Foretelling of the Dragon's birth on the slopes of Dragonmount.
7. The next morning, Moiraine and Lan are accosted by Alanna Sedai, who demands to know about Nynaeve's friends from the Two Rivers that they have visited in the city.

Answer: False

It was the meddling Liandrin Sedai who ferreted out the information about Mat, Rand, Perrin and Egwene, going so far as to name them all. Liandrin tries to use her knowledge to force Moiraine to reveal what she has been about, but rather than let Liandrin bully her, Moiraine turns the tables on the Red Sister.

Moiraine reveals that she knows about a secret that Liandrin has been keeping, herself. "I know about the man you meet in Northarbor. Walk away. Never mention this again. Or I will tell your Red Sisters where he lives. We both know what they'll do to him."
8. Expressly summoned, whom does Moiraine bring to an audience with the Amyrlin?

Answer: Egwene and Nynaeve

Moiraine brings Egwene to the Hall of the Tower and Lan brings Nynaeve (Zoë Robins), reuniting the two for the first time since they were separated at Shadar Logoth.

In the Amyrlin's study, Siuan welcomes the two young women to the White Tower and mentions (to Egwene's surprise) that Nynaeve is the most powerful channeler that they've seen in 1,000 years. She also thanks Egwene for her bravery and spark in escaping the Whitecloaks and returning the Great Serpent rings that Valda had collected.

After speaking of how they have been called to greatness and how important their coming decisions are, Nynaeve responds with hostility, declaring that she and Egwene want no part of this. Siuan's response: "The Last Battle is coming. What any of us wants now is... meaningless."
9. In the Hall of the Tower, with all Sitters again in attendance, the Amyrlin delivers her judgment for Moiraine's previous (supposed) public disobedience of her commands. What is her punishment?

Answer: Exile

The Amyrlin makes Moiraine swear to obey her judgment using the Oath Rod, which is normally (at least in the books) reserved for the Three Oaths that all Aes Sedai must swear upon being raised from Accepted. The exile is not the only part of the punishment, as we see all of the Sitters turn their backs on Moiraine, symbolizing that she is no longer accepted among their ranks (at least, until the Amyrlin is satisfied that the penance has been served).

While this public action seems damning, it was preconceived by Moiraine and agreed to by Siuan when they met in their lover's rendezvous. It was a necessary action to allow Moiraine the freedom to continue her (their) mission without interference, especially after Maigan demanded that Moiraine stay in the Tower indefinitely.
10. Free of the White Tower and its politics (for now), Moiraine gathers everyone at a Waygate near Tar Valon. Loial (the Ogier) describes the Ways as "Ancient pathways, out of time and space," and it is into the Ways that Moiraine brings everyone... except one. Who unexpectedly chooses to stay behind as the Waygate closes?

Answer: Mat

This occurrence is a change from the books, where the whole crew traveled together, and no one was left behind. It remains to be seen how significantly this will affect the storyline in comparison, but the reasons for the change were due to complications in the real world, and not simply by 'creative choice', as the actor who plays Mat Cauthon (Barney Harris) left the production after filming the sixth episode, and a new actor was announced to take over the role for the second season. No information was given as to the reason behind Barney's leaving.
