Smith, born on February 20th, 1971 in Taipei, Taiwan guest starred as Ed in this episode. He played the part for forty five episodes of "The West Wing." He has also guest starred on the TV shows "CSI: Miami", "Monk" and "Love Boat: The Next Wave."

Toby went into Leo's office and Leo said he was surprised he was still there, as he thought Toby had already gone home. He asked Toby what he wanted so Toby said he was thinking about Vice President Hoynes volunteering to slap down the oil industry. Leo said Hoynes volunteered to do it since he got some polling information regarding the oil companies.

It was during the opening credits when Leo entered the oval office to speak to the President and President Bartlet mentioned to him that he closed the embassies in Tanzania and Brussels. Leo then told President Bartlet that Toby was waiting in his office and they had to tell him something. President Bartlet asked him what they needed to tell him so Leo informed him it was about Vice President Hoynes stepping in for Bill Trotter to slap down the oil industry.

During the opening credits, Josh and Sam read over a document together regarding a planned speech at the Correspondents' Dinner and Josh said there was a problem with it.
