The very first category for a Daytime Emmy was in 1973 titled Outstanding Achievement by an Individual in a Daytime Drama. Mary Fickett, who played Ruth Martin, won the Emmy that year based off tapes she submitted in which Ruth gave a resounding anti Vietnam War speech.
