He has dreams of some of the people he had killed. And when he is awake the 'spirits' of the people are telling him about them and what they had before he killed them. They haunt him and drive him crazy.

When they are talking about what they are doing for Christmas. Cordelia heard Xander and said she thought that he only slept outside to avoid his drunken parents.
