This is not true, as Angel comes back the episode before, right at the end of 'Faith, Hope And Trick'. Buffy goes to Angel's mansion to try and put him behind her, and she sets down the claddagh ring he had given to her for her birthday the previous year. When Buffy leaves, he falls, naked, onto the spot where she had set the ring.
