Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The beginning and ending scenes of "The Guy for This" were symbolic of Saul's descent into the criminal world. What item that Saul had been eating at the end of the previous episode was shown covered with ants in this episode?

Answer: Ice cream cone

Saul had been eating a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone last episode when he was picked up by Nacho. Nacho wouldn't allow him to bring the ice cream into the car so Saul dropped it on the ground. At the beginning of this episode, we saw a lone red harvester ant approaching the cone and then more ants joining him until there was an army of them covering the cone.

At the end of the episode, Nacho dropped Saul off at the same spot after another meeting with Lalo, and Saul looked down at the remaining mess of a cone that was still covered with ants.

The scenes weren't computer-generated; an ant wrangler (apparently there IS such a thing) was hired and provided 2,000 ants for the filming. The ice cream cone, however, was not real as it was too cold for the ants so "a lookalike concoction of edible and non-toxic ice cream" was used for the scene.

At the end of the filming, the ants were vacuumed up in equipment specially made for the task. According to the ant wrangler, no ants were harmed during the filming: "Everybody goes home alive and unharmed".

The music to the scene was provided by a Swiss yodeling group Jodlerklub Bärgblüemli. On the "You Tube" page for the song, "Jänzigrat Jüz", a listener made the comment: "we need a track to accompany some ants devouring an ice cream - let's have an 80s Nordic yodelling piece that's perfect".
2. Lalo is a man of many talents. We've seen him cooking in the Salamanca kitchen and dropping from a ceiling at a wire transfer store in earlier episodes. What skill was he demonstrating when Nacho first brought Saul to meet him?

Answer: Fixing a car

Lalo was working on the engine of a Monte Carlo when Nacho arrived with Saul. Saul thought he was there because of his prior involvement with Nacho, and he began to nervously talk about their history. When Lalo finally addressed him, he said, "Tuco told me about you. You're the guy with the mouth".

He then told Saul that "we got a legal problem". Saul was so happy to hear this: "For a minute there, I thought I was going to be swallowing condoms full of heroin". Lalo laughed, "No, maybe later". Lalo explained that Domingo was in jail, and he wanted Saul to tell Domingo what to say. Saul tried to talk him into using a drop phone, but Lalo wanted Saul to handle it in person since he'd had attorney/client confidentiality: "You're the guy for this". Saul then mentioned that his rates had gone up.

When Lalo asked for a number, Saul quoted $7,925, thinking Lalo would turn him down, but Lalo just pulled out the cash and paid him $8,000 "for your trouble". By the way, Lalo's skills including racing the car; we later saw him turning laps at a dirt race track.
3. When Mike was drowning his sorrows at the bar, what picture did he ask the bartender to take down because it reminded him of Werner Ziegler?

Answer: Sydney Opera House

Mike was drinking at his usual bar, and he'd had quite a few, so when he asked for another, the bartender said he'd call him a cab. Mike tossed his keys on the bar: "Put them in the register and pour me another". Then Mike spotted the postcard on the wall that Werner Ziegler had mentioned when the two of them had a drink at the bar.

It was a picture of the Sydney Opera House, and Werner had said that his father had worked on it. Mike wanted the bartender to take the picture down, but the bartender declined, "I don't know, Mike. Customers send these in.

It's a tradition". Mike kept saying, "Take it down", but the bartender refused to do so until Mike finally added a sorrowful "please".
4. After leaving his keys at the bar, an inebriated Mike stumbled home. What happened along the way?

Answer: He broke a punk's arm.

When Mike was stumbling home, he passed by a house with a gang of troublemakers sitting in the yard. They started after Mike, with one of them asking if he had $20 he could lend him. Mike told him, "I've got a lot more than twenty bucks..." and then turned and started walking away.

The man went after Mike, "Hold up Gramps" and hit Mike with a punch to the face. But Mike then karate-chopped him to the ground, and held him there, twisting his arm. Mike then looked at the rest of the guys to see if they wanted some too, but they just stood there watching as Mike snapped the guy's arm and then stepped on the guy as he walked away.
5. After the latest threat against his father, Nacho desperately wanted to get him out of town. What did he do to try to get his father to leave?

Answer: Had someone offer to buy his shop

Nacho's father came to see him at his house, which he apparently hadn't seen before since he looked around the place and declared it to be "big and new". Nacho made him coffee, and the two of them sat at the kitchen table. His father then told him that he'd received an offer from someone named Gutierrez to buy the upholstery shop.

When Nacho asked what he was going to do, his father said that he'd hoped to give the shop to Nacho eventually. Nacho pointed out that he (his father) was working eleven hours a day - did he want to do this for the rest of his life? His father was suspicious because the offer was for more than the shop was worth.

He finally asked Nacho if the offer was from him, which Nacho initially denied, but his father didn't buy it.

He told Nacho that if he wanted to run away, he could do so, "but me, no way, I will not run away".
6. Lalo sent Saul to meet with Domingo in jail to pass along instructions. What did Lalo want Domingo to do?

Answer: Give the police the locations of Gus Fring's cash drops

Hector had "told" Lalo (through his bell rings) to go after Gus's money, and when Domingo was arrested, it presented Lalo with the perfect opportunity. Saul met with Domingo in jail, and Domingo was initially scared when Saul told him that Lalo had sent him. Domingo nervously said that he hadn't said anything.

But Saul reassured him: "Don't worry kid, I'm nothing but good news for you". The plan was that in exchange for Domingo's freedom, he would agree to reveal the three locations where the crews left the money that was to be collected by Gus Fring's team.

When Nacho later met with Gus and Tyrus to give them the bad news about their dead drops. Tyrus started to make a call to shut the operation down, but Gus stopped him. Nacho explained: "If there's no money in those dead drops, Lalo will know someone talked". Gus stared at him, but said "the dead drops remain" and walked off.
7. Kim had been looking forward to a day of pro bono work, but a call from Rich Schweikart sent her to Tucumcari where she had to get a man to vacate his property for what reason?

Answer: Mesa Verde was building a call center there.

When Kim and Saul were having a beer on the balcony the night before, Kim told him that she was celebrating having a day of pro bono cases the next day, and no Mesa Verde. The client she had tried so hard to get had become a bore to her, and she preferred her pro bono work.

But as Rich pointed out, "Mesa Verde keeps the lights on", so when they called, she had to leave her pro bono clients to her assistant and head to Tucumcari (about two and a half hours drive east of Albuquerque). The reason she had to go there was to deal with an old man (Barry Corbin) who was refusing to leave his property.

He had leased the land for a hundred years, but there was a buyout clause in his lease. The bank now owned the land and wanted to build a call center there.

The other neighbors had accepted the buyout offer, but he was refusing to do so. Kim tried to reason with him, but he turned nasty: "You're one of those people that give a little money to charity every month so that you can make up for all the bad that you've done. You go to a soup kitchen once a year on Thanksgiving. That makes you feel a whole lot better about yourself... I don't know how in the world you sleep at night". Kim had enough of his abuse: "Listen to me. You do not get to make up your own rules. Put on your big boy pants and face reality. No one is mistreating you here... Why should you get to drag this out for seven months while all of your neighbors, every single one of them, played by the rules? Do you think you're special? A contract means something, and it's enforceable. Deal with it." She stormed off to accolades from Paige, the attorney from Mesa Verde.

Although Kim maintained that she hadn't solved the problem, Paige said, "You ended it. That's what we needed".
8. Besides Saul, who arrived to talk with Domingo at the jail?

Answer: DEA agents

If you're a "Breaking Bad" fan, you've probably been expecting to see DEA agents Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) and Steve Gomez (Steven Michael Quezada); their appearances were among the easiest to incorporate in the prequel story. When they arrived, Domingo started to make his deal and tell them that the dealers leave the cash at dead drops. That's when Saul barged in and introduced himself. Hank immediately saw through his name: "It's all good man. Really? C'mon. That's your name?" Saul told them to leave, but then Hank told him that Domingo had waived his right to an attorney. Saul said he hadn't, but Domingo said he had.

They played out the scene while Hank and Steve watched before Saul said that Domingo wanted to talk to them against the advice of his attorney.

The deal Saul made was that if the information that Domingo provided led them to the cash, the charges would be dropped. Hank added that it needed to lead to arrests, which seemed to make Saul uncomfortable but he agreed.
9. Why did Kim return late in the evening to see Mr. Acker, the Tucumcari resident whom she was trying to evict?

Answer: To offer to help him move

Kim apparently felt guilty over her outburst with Mr. Acker, so she returned to see him that evening, and asked him if they could start over. She told him that she had went to a realtor's office and found him some other properties that he could afford.

She even volunteered to help him move, offering to pay for the costs out of her own pocket: "I know you don't want to move but whatever house you choose will be yours, you'll own it and the land forever". She even shared a story of her childhood how they had to leave at a moment's notice to avoid the landlord.

But her kindness was lost on him: "You'll say anything to get what you want, won't you" and he shut the door on her. In case Barry Corbin who portrayed Mr. Acker looked familiar, you might know him from "Northern Exposure", "Lonesome Dove", "Dallas", or the film "War Games".
10. Toward the beginning and the end of the episode, we saw Kim and Saul drinking beers on their balcony. How did their latter drinking session end?

Answer: They threw beer bottles into the parking lot.

Toward the beginning of the episode, Kim was waiting for Saul on the balcony when he arrived home. They were both in good moods, but there was still a distance between them. Kim said she was celebrating because she didn't have to deal with Mesa Verde the next day. Saul meanwhile said that, "Financially speaking, Saul Goodman just had his best day yet". "Good for Saul", Kim unenthusiastically responded. Toward the end of the episode, when Kim arrived home, it was Saul greeting her from the balcony.

They shared a cigarette and silently drank their beers. Then while Saul was dangling his bottle over the railing, Kim flung hers into the parking lot. Saul followed suit, and they took turns tossing full bottles into the parking lot until lights came on in an apartment across the way and a dog started barking.

Then they quickly grabbed the remaining evidence and ran inside.
