Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When asked why Pearl is a whale, when her father in Mr Krabs is a crab, what did show creator Stephen Hillenburg say?

Answer: He wanted every main character to be a different animal

Pearl is considered by Hillenburg to be one of the show's ten main characters. Simply put, Hillenburg wanted each main character to be a different animal. That does satisfy the "out of character" explanation for why Pearl is a whale, while her father is a totally different species.

However, we may never truly know why Mr Krabs is Pearl's father. Was she adopted? Did Mr Krabs buy her? We may never know.
2. Mr Krabs has high hopes for Pearl's future. What does Mr Krabs want Pearl to do when she grows up?

Answer: Inherit ownership of the Krusty Krab

In "Bossy Boots," Mr Krabs jumps the gun a bit and decides to name Pearl a manager, hoping to eventually ease her in to ownership. Pearl ends up being a horrible manager, but it is here where Mr Krabs' long term ambitions with Pearl are revealed. These ambitions do seem to be mutual, so Mr Krabs isn't necessarily forcing Pearl into this.
3. Of course, as Mr Krabs has been so busy with the Krusty Krab, he has often had to hire a babysitter for Pearl who she has grown close with. Who has Krabs hired to babysit Pearl?

Answer: Squidward

Doing this deed earned Squidward the honorary nickname of "Uncle Squiddy." Of course, he is not actually Pearl's uncle, but this deed served to help Squidward become a close friend to both Pearl and Mr Krabs, which is never a bad thing.
4. When Pearl turns sixteen years old, Mr Krabs finds it important for her to learn how to drive. Who ends up teaching her this skill?

Answer: Mr Krabs

Mr Krabs decides against sending Pearl to Boating School, as he finds the $100 semesterly charge to not be worth it. He decides to teach Pearl how to drive himself. As we find out in "Yellow Avenger," this effort ends up not being fruitful, as Pearl still really doesn't know how to drive and, here, decides to save up money so she can eventually make her way to Mrs Puff's boating school.

It is never found out if this effort was successful or not.
5. In "The Chaperone," Pearl's prom date ends up standing her up at the last moment. As a favor, Mr Krabs calls upon someone else to dress up nicely and take Pearl out to the prom. Who ends up doing this?

Answer: SpongeBob

SpongeBob wears a pair of stilts, a long tuxedo, and attempts to be the best date he could be for Pearl. Unfortunately, walking around on these stilts ends up proving to be too much of a challenge, and the date ends up going awry. Still, considering how major a favor it was, along with the fact that he never asked for anything in return, SpongeBob put in quite the commendable effort.
6. Pearl has a somewhat humorous but also quite sad running gag which has followed her throughout the show's existence. What is this?

Answer: She has comically disloyal friends

On nearly a dozen occasions, Pearl has referred to someone, an unidentified fish of some sort, as her "best friend." As if on cue, this "best friend" will end up vanishing from the story, and the franchise, completely. In three separate episodes, Pearl hosts major birthday parties where she invites lots of her friends.

At every birthday party, these "friends" are completely different people every time. Even more saddening is that, in "Bikini Atoll," she ends up getting beached only for her friends to deliberately abandon her, on camera, to never be seen again.

The general dynamic is that Pearl has no trouble making friends, but keeping them has never been a thing for her.
7. Pearl would likely be a great help to a fellow classmate in one particular school subject. What subject is this?

Answer: Math

On numerous occasions, Pearl's brain size has been cited for why she is far more skilled at complex math than any other character in the show. As a sperm whale, this makes sense.
8. Pearl works at a pretty unique place in the Bikini Bottom mall. Where is this?

Answer: Grandma's Apron

Here, Pearl is an assistant manager. She proves to absolutely love her job, happily aiding in baking cookies, knitting and testing/recommending rocking chairs to the store's customer base. She deliberately does not care for her peers' generally negative opinion of the store, and is thrilled to work there.
9. In "Sleepy Time," SpongeBob visits Pearl's dream. What is she dreaming about?

Answer: A tea party with stuffed animals

Pearl happily acknowledges SpongeBob's presence and invites him to join her for tea. She is saddened when he remarks that he actually meant to visit Mr Krabs' dream and accidentally reached Pearl's.
10. In "Culture Shock" Squidward is able to persuade Mr Krabs to put on a talent show at the Krusty Krab by promising he intends to make Pearl into a "star." Is Mr Krabs ultimately impressed by what Squidward teaches Pearl to do?

Answer: Yes

Sadly, he was likely the only one who enjoyed the new cheerleading routine Squidward taught her. Sadly, as a whale, Pearl's constant jumping around the Krusty Krab shook the whole restaurant up and sent patrons flying in the air. Mr Krabs, despite being one of such people to get tossed around, was very impressed by the routine.
