Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What color is the infamous box cutter that Gus uses to slash Victor's throat?

Answer: Lime green

The first scene of episode 1, "Box Cutter", is a flashback showing Gale using it while he set up the lab. Mike throws it into the drum they use to dispose of Victor's body.
2. While convalescing from the shootout with the Salamanca twins, what does Hank start collecting?

Answer: Minerals

Hank tells Marie several times that they are minerals and not rocks. Either way, she is unimpressed with his new hobby and how much time and space it takes up in their home.
3. Marie has regressed back into kleptomania, and now she attends open houses where she makes up stories about her homelife and takes mementos. A realtor remembers her from a previous house and accuses her of stealing a commemorative state what?

Answer: Spoon

The realtor follows Marie to her car and grabs her purse. Marie is caught red-handed as her purse rips open and a picture frame of the couple inside smashes on the ground. Hank uses his connections in the department to get her out of it.
4. What country is Gus from originally?

Answer: Chile

Hank and his DEA cohorts can't find any records of Gus after he emigrated to Mexico. Gus blames it on the Chile's poor record-keeping, but they remain suspicious. Gus seems to have been important in the government because Don Eladio tells him, "I know who you are."
5. While waiting in the refrigerated truck, Mike gets grazed by a bullet in what body part?

Answer: Ear

Mike puts the flap back in place and then wears a band-aid for several more episodes. His ears do jut out, so it was just a matter of time considering his occupation.
6. Skyler concocts a story to justify being able to buy the carwash. From what casino game has Walt supposedly made all of his money?

Answer: Blackjack

Her several page script is a "doozy." Walt teaches himself the Kelly criterion to blackjack and Skyler wants him to demonstrate his skills for Hank and Marie. Walt loses a few practice hands and then reminds her he shouldn't play cards because, according to the cover story, he's in recovery.
7. What '80s one hit wonder did Gale karaoke on the tape Hank shows to Walt?

Answer: "Major Tom"

Everyone but Walt has a laugh watching Gale on the tape. Hank later refers to him as Gale "Major Tom" Boetticher. This song was released in 1983 as a response to David Bowie's 1969 hit "Space Oddity".
8. Walt convinces Hank that the W.W. initials in Gale's lab notes stand for whom?

Answer: Walt Whitman

Walt shows him the Whitman passage in Gale's notes and hopes that Hank believes the story. In season 5, Hank finds the Whitman book that Gale inscribed to Walt and starts to piece everything together.
9. Who was Gus' partner in Los Pollos Hermanos and was killed by Hector "Tio" Salamanca?

Answer: Max

Like Gale, Max received a scholarship from Gus and went on to work with him. Their true relationship was unknown, but Max was very important to Gus and he continued to seek vengeance from Hector for the rest of his life.
10. What does Walt NOT do with Walt Jr's Dodge Challenger?

Answer: Run over mailboxes

Skyler makes Walt return the car for a restocking fee, but it never makes it back to the dealership. Saul takes care of it, though not inexpensively.
11. Trying to alleviate his guilt over shooting Gale, Jesse tells his Narcotics Anonymous group that he killed what kind of animal?

Answer: Dog

The episode is called "Problem Dog", and I think this speech is the reason that Aaron Paul won the Emmy over an equally-deserving Giancarlo Esposito. Jesse had managed to avoid killing someone until Gale and he does not handle the guilt well.
12. What memento from the carwash does Walt refuse to let Bogdan take?

Answer: Dollar bill

Walt breaks the frame and then uses that dollar to buy a Coke. Walt needs Bogdan to know that he is ready to be the boss and is taking the building 'as is.'
13. While eating at Los Pollos Hermanos with Walter Jr., how does Hank get Gus' fingerprints?

Answer: Cup

Gus offers to get him a refill of Diet Coke and Hank later puts the cup in an evidence bag. Those fingerprints are found in Gale's apartment and he is brought in for questioning. Gus provides plausible answers to evade suspicion, but he is visibly shaken in the elevator
14. What does Mike remove from Don Eladio's body to prove that he is dead?

Answer: Necklace

Gus brings the eye necklace to Hector Salamanca at the nursing home to prove that he killed Don Eladio. Hector is the last remaining member of the cartel and Gus enjoys emotionally torturing the paralyzed man who killed his partner years ago.
15. Does Walt poison Brock?

Answer: Yes

The last shot of the season is a lily of the valley plant in Walt's backyard. He has been manipulating Jesse, while plotting Gus' death. In Season 5, we find out that Saul somehow got the berries into their house when he delivered money. However it happened, Walt has officially become "the one who knocks."
