Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Michael Westen was on an assignment when he received his burn notice and was dumped in Miami. Where was Michael's assignment?

Answer: Nigeria

When a spy is given a burn notice, they have been deemed unreliable or compromised. In addition to being fired, they are blacklisted with all of their assets frozen. Michael Westen (played by Jeffrey Donovan) wakes up somewhat worse for the wear in a Miami hotel.
2. Michael's mother, Madeline, is a chain-smoking widow with an obsessive and excitable personality. Which actress does a wonderful job playing this manipulative woman?

Answer: Sharon Gless

Sharon Gless is well-known for her role in the T.V. show "Cagney and Lacey". In a nod her former show, one "Burn Notice" episode had Sam and Fiona pretending to be cops and using the names Cagney and Lacey. Madeline, with all of her faults, is a survivor of an abusive marriage and as the season progresses, we see that she clearly cares for her son.
3. Fiona Glenanne is an associate that Michael hooks up with after he is burned. Where did Fiona and Michael know each other before Miami?

Answer: Ireland with the IRA

Fiona was an IRA operative, who did not do well with taking orders, and Michael was her intelligence contact. When his identity was compromised, Michael had to leave Ireland without being able to contact Fiona. They had a romantic relationship in Ireland and Fiona seems intent on starting this attachment up again in Miami. Trigger-happy doesn't adequately describe Fiona's preferred solution to any problem.
4. Sam Axe, Michael's other friend in Miami, worked with him in the past. Who is Sam sometimes working for while keeping an eye on Michael?

Answer: FBI

Sam was formerly a Navy seal and after Michael's arrival in Miami, he was conscripted by the FBI to keep an eye on him and report on the former spy's activities. Michael knows about this surveillance and, at times, is able to use this reporting conduit to his advantage.
5. Michael has a brother Nate, who surfaces from time to time. What activity does Nate engage in that causes him to seek help from his brother?

Answer: Gambling

Nate has difficulty with compulsive gambling, especially since he bets with money that he does not have. He is prone to get-rich-quick schemes and has had to come to Michael for assistance on occasion.
6. After being burned, Michael no longer has protection from his employers and some former adversaries take advantage by trying to kill him. What was the name of the Eastern European assassin who tries to settle a score?

Answer: Jan Haseck

Michael first notices Jan while he and Sam are eating in bar and he starts a fight with another patron to distract the Czech before punching him. Later, Jan shoots at Michael who is trying to prevent his brother, Nate, from encountering a rigged shotgun that he set up and Nate is forced to stitch up Michael's wound from a ricocheted bullet. Through Sam's FBI contact, Michael later learns that Jan was picked by some unknown security officers and has ended up dead.

Despite the trouble Jan Haseck caused him, Michael seems to have some regret over the Czech's demise.
7. Michael convinces an old friend, Akhom Thabet, to give him a copy of his burn notice. Where does Akhom meet Michael to deliver the information?

Answer: At the grave of Michael's father

Akhom Thabet is an old friend who spies for the Egyptian government. Michael calls in a favor by talking to Akhom while he is in the middle of a job and in order to preserve his cover, Akhom agrees. After he delivers the information at Michael's father's grave, it is clear that Michael may not contact him again.
8. Michael encounters a beautiful and lethal hit woman named Evelyn who causes him a great deal of trouble in the episode "False Flag". How do Evelyn and Michael part ways?

Answer: Evelyn jumps to her death

Evelyn (played by actress Lucy Lawless) is an engaging character with very little conscience about her profession. Michael catches her on a rooftop and prevents her from killing his client, but to rather than being turned over to the authorities, she jumps to her death.
9. Michael is finally able to meet Phillip Cowan, who he believes ordered his burn notice. When they meet, it is clear that Phillip did not order him burned, but how does their meeting end?

Answer: Phillip Cowan is shot and killed by a sniper

Just as Phillip Cowan warns Michael that he has underestimated who had him burned, he is shot to death by an expert marksman. Clearly, the people that Cowan worked for used him to bring Michael Westen to a point where they could manipulate him.
10. At the end of season one, Michael is contacted by the person who likely had him burned. What name does this person use?

Answer: Carla

Carla is an elusive voice on the phone until the second season. Her association and motives are a mystery as she sends Michael on a mission. Michael goes along in order to learn more information on his new employer and to stay alive. Tricia Helfer plays the role of Carla and like Lucy Lawless, also appears as a Cylon on "Battlestar Galactica".
