Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This program had a presidential presence as the host for part of the show's run, though we didn't know it at the time.

Answer: Death Valley Days

Remember watching Ronald Reagan on 'Death Valley Days'? We never even imagined that he would someday be president of the U.S.A. Ronald Reagan appeared as an actor in eight episodes in 1964 and 1965 as well as hosting the show from 1964 through 1966.
2. This show's host didn't mind a bunch of gold diggers or ding a lings hanging around.

Answer: The Dean Martin Show

Dean Martin surrounded himself with 10 to 12 beautiful women as a part of every show from 1967 through 1973. The cast of the Gold Diggers was Pauline Antony, Wanda Bailey, Jimmi Cannon, Loyita Chapel, Jackie Chidsey, Paula Cinko, Rosetta Cox, Lee Crawford, Leslie Dalton, Michelle della Fave, Liz Kelley, Jayne Kennedy, Tara Leigh, Susan Lund, Micki McGlone, Francie Mendenhall, Patricia Mickey, Nancy Reichert, and Janice Whitby during these four years. I'm sure he didn't mind.
3. This show's main character and the show's namesake was faster than lightning and no one was smarter than he. Name the character and show.

Answer: Flipper

Flipper was the pet dolphin of a Florida park ranger and his two sons. Flipper was played by six female dolphins and one male: Mitzie, Susie, Patty, Squirt, Scottie and Kathy were the females and Mr. Gipper was the male. Patty was the lead dolphin in the series and Mr. Gipper was used for Flipper's famous tail walking trick. Females were used because they were less aggressive thus had fewer scars from confrontations in the wild.
4. Sister Bertrille had better hang on to her hat in this show.

Answer: The Flying Nun

Sally Field played Sister Bertrille, a novice nun at the Convent San Tanco in Puerto Rico. Her order's unique cornettes (starched head pieces) and small stature gave her the ability to soar or fly when the hefty winds blew in from the sea. 'The Flying Nun' was adapted from Tere Rios's book 'The Fifteenth Pelican'.
5. On this show it was downright dangerous to say "Sock it to me."

Answer: Rowan & Martin's Laugh In

'Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In' was the ultimate of the hippy-styled comedy/music/variety shows. If someone, usually Judy Carne, said the magic phrase, "Sock it to me!," they were usually doused with water, or worse. 'Laugh-In' aired from 1968 through 1973 and boasted a cast of regulars and guests numbering over 180.
6. Don Herbert was the star of this show.

Answer: Watch Mr. Wizard

Don Herbert played Mr. Wizard in 'Watch Mr. Wizard' which aired in the U.S.A. from 1951 through 1972, 'Mr. Wizard' which aired in Canada from 1971 through 1975 and in 'Mr. Wizard's World' which aired in the U.S.A. from 1983 through 1991. With little flash and pizazz, Mr. Wizard wowed us with the experiments he and his juvenile helpers performed. Many of today's science teachers developed an interest in science while watching Mr. Wizard.
7. One of the four leads in this show played a young circus entertainer a decade earlier.

Answer: The Monkees

Born George Michael Dolenz Jr., Micky Dolenz is first credited in the 1956-1958 series, 'Circus Boy', as 10-year old actor Micky Braddock. Braddock/Dolenz played young Corky who was adopted by Uncle Joey the clown of the Burke and Walsh Circus after his parents, The Flying Falcons, were killed in a high wire accident. Dolenz went by the name Micky Braddock until after his playing the role of Melvin on 'The Velvet Alley' episode of 'Playhouse 90' in 1959.
8. The original host of this nature show often asked his co-host, Jim, to do the more dangerous tasks.

Answer: Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom

The host of 'Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom' was Marlin Perkins, the then director of the world famous St. Louis Zoo. His co-host was Jim Fowler who took over as the sole host after Perkin's failing health led to his retirement in 1985. The show continued production and was released in syndication until 1988.
9. In the opening of this show you saw an animated shoe tapping in time with the theme song.

Answer: My Three Sons

The entire decade of the 1960s had us all waiting to see this wingtip shoe tapping along with the show's theme song. This indicated that we would soon be following the adventures of Steve Douglas, played by Fred MacMurray, and his three sons, Mike, Robbie and Chip. 'My Three Sons' ran from 1960 through 1972 for a total of 380 episodes.

When Tim Considine, who played Mike, did not renew his contract, Mike was married off and left the show. The family then adopted young Ernie Thompson, played by Barry Livingston, to keep true to the show's title.
10. The setting for this show could be anywhere from Chicago to Los Angeles along a once famous highway.

Answer: Route 66

US 66 ran from Chicago, Illinois, through eight states all the way to the intersection of Ocean Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles, California. This highway was the supposed setting for the show of the same name which featured two young men in their Corvette looking for adventure along this famous highway.

The eight states through which Route 66 passed were: Illinois, Missouri, a small corner of Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. The highway was officially decommissioned on June 27, 1985 outliving the TV show by 21 years.
