Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of this episode, the detective who shut down "the Reaper" investigation ten years ago finally reveals why. To which member of the BAU does he communicate this information to?

Answer: Aaron Hotchner

The opening scene of "Omnivore" shows Hotch visiting Tom Shaunessy, a retired detective he once worked with on the Boston Reaper case. The older man is on his death bed, and tells Hotch that he did have a reason for shutting "down the investigation" into the Reaper "without an arrest" all those years ago.

Indeed in order to stop the murders he made a "deal with the devil", the Boston Reaper himself; a contract was struck between them, which read "If you stop hunting me, I'll stop hunting them. For as long as we both shall live." Of course now that Tom Shaunessy is dying, it is likely that the Reaper will re-appear, a fact that is all too clear to both Hotch and the retired detective.
2. What common motoring problem leads to the Boston Reaper claiming the first two victims of this particular episode?

Answer: Flat tyres

It is unclear whether or not the Boston Reaper is responsible for the two flat tyres that lead to the death of the vehicle's occupants. Nevertheless, he certainly takes full advantage of it, posing as a good Samaritan who steps in to save the stranded couple.

While the female passenger calls AAA and the male driver attempts to remove one of the vehicle's tyres, the Boston Reaper makes his move, brutally beating his male victim about the head with a tyre iron. He then moves on to the terrified female passenger, pressing a gun to her forehead, before calmly telling her "This won't hurt".
3. Prior to the BAU travelling to Boston, Jennifer "J.J." Jareau expresses concern about going there: Jennifer "J.J." Jareau: "Shouldn't we wait for the official request? We haven't been invited." Aaron Hotchner: "We will be!" Is Aaron Hotchner subsequently proved right?

Answer: Yes

Traditionally, the BAU only offers its help to police departments that ask for it. However in this case, Hotch is so convinced that the Boston Reaper will strike again that he flies his team to Boston before being officially invited there. Upon arrival, when faced with the Reaper's now defunct contract as well as two dead bodies that can be attributed to him, the Boston Police Department immediately request the team's assistance, proving Hotch right.
4. At each one of his crime scenes, the Boston Reaper leaves a distinctive mark, written in the blood of his victims. What name is attributed to this gory symbol?

Answer: The Eye of Providence

Throughout this episode, the Eye of Providence is seen frequently, not only at each of the Boston Reaper's crime scenes, but also on the bottom of the contract he once had with Tom Shaunessy. As Spencer Reid explains to the rest of the team, the Eye of Providence is a symbol "adopted by the US government, and incorporated into the great seal in 1782".

The words "Annuit coeptis" are written beneath it, which is Latin for 'providence', or 'fate'.
5. Unlike most of the unsubs the BAU are called in to capture, the Boston Reaper is labelled an omnivore. What exactly does this mean?

Answer: He has no specific victim type.

Early on in this episode it is revealed that at the time of the original murders, the FBI was sent away before a profile of the Reaper could be developed. However at the site of this episode's second round of murders, Hotch reveals to Rossi that he has in fact been working on a profile in the decade since the original murders.

This profile reveals that the Reaper is an omnivore - a killer with no specific victim type. Rather, as Hotch reveals, the Reaper is the most dangerous type of killer, as he will essentially kill anyone.
6. During their quest to catch the Boston Reaper, the BAU track down a man named George Foyet. Initially, who do they believe this man to be?

Answer: The sole surviving victim of the Boston Reaper.

Midway through this episode, the BAU turn their attention to a man they believe to be the sole surviving victim of the Boston Reaper - George Foyet. Having been severely injured by a man later identified as the Reaper, Foyet subsequently "went completely off the grid".

Indeed his disappearance even stumps tech-wiz, Penelope Garcia, who states that "even dead people stay on the grid for decades. Take it from me, erasing yourself like this, it's extremely difficult."
7. During a phone conversation with the Boston Reaper, which member of the BAU rebuffs his bid to make a deal, stating "I don't make deals! I'm the guy who hunts guys like you"?

Answer: Aaron Hotchner

While alone in his hotel room, Hotch receives an unexpected phone call from the Boston Reaper himself, who wishes to make the same deal with Hotch as he once made with the deceased Tom Shaunessy. Confident that Hotch can be manipulated, the Reaper tells him "If you stop hunting me, I'll stop hunting them." Hotch's moral compass promptly kicks into high gear, resulting in him uttering the words mentioned in the question, Undeterred, the Boston Reaper then closes the conversation by stating ominously, "You'll regret this".
8. Character 1: "Prentiss, he's telling me, 'I had you'". Character 2: "______, you're alive!" Whose name belongs in the blank, proving that the Boston Reaper is able to take down even the most physically fit of FBI agents, and is thus a considerable force to be reckoned with?

Answer: Morgan

Near the end of this episode, while trying to stop the Boston Reaper, Morgan is attacked by him, and is propelled through a glass window, which subsequently knocks him out cold. However Morgan does avoid being murdered by the Reaper, which he accepts may in part be due to the latter's attempt to mess with his mind, something he then tries to emphasise to Emily in the conversation mentioned in the question above.
9. Having fooled everyone throughout this entire episode, who is finally unmasked as the Boston Reaper?

Answer: George Foyet

Right at the very end of this episode, it finally dawns on Hotch and his team that it is in fact George Foyet who is the Boston Reaper. As they sit together, working through the case, it becomes clear that the Reaper's so-called only living victim has lied to and manipulated everyone. Each alias is revealed to be a substitute teacher, with access to young girls; this matches part of Hotch's profile to tee.

As Hotch later admits, "Between the phone call and the severity of his wounds, we never considered him as a suspect".
10. Following his capture, the Boston Reaper does *not* remain incarcerated for long.

Answer: True

True to form, George Foyet, aka the Boston Reaper, outwits his captors and escapes from prison, only hours after being detained and arrested by the BAU. Once in a prison cell he tricks his jailers into taking him to the prison hospital, by pretending to vomit blood and experience convulsions.

He then puts his ten years of studying the schematics of "every jail, prison and courthouse in Massachusetts" to good use by escaping into the night.
