Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mary decides to run for what office?

Answer: school board

Nicholas got a question wrong on a test because he said man had not landed on the moon. Nicholas blamed his textbook because it said 'someday' man would land on the moon. which Tom claimed Mary had used the same book when she was Nicholas' age.
2. Who was Mary's opponent in the election?

Answer: Flanagan

Flanagan was the incumbent.
3. Who got Mary's first signature on her petition?

Answer: Nancy

When Mary failed to get a signature, Nancy decided to show Mary how it was done. Nancy sauntered up to a man and was able to get him to sign.
4. Did Tom's paper endorse Mary?

Answer: no

Mary was confronted with this fact while giving a television interview.
5. Who lent their vehicle for Mary's campaign?

Answer: David

David lent his VW van for Mary's campaign effort. The family decorated the van with American bunting, bumper stickers, signs and even a bull horn.
6. Who stormed into the house to find Mary, when Tom was getting ready to go out on a date?

Answer: Abby

Abby was upset because Mary had stated she was for no school budget increase and for looking at the budget for places it could be cut. Abby was upset because she didn't think Mary actually knew what going to an austerity budget meant for the children of the school district and stormed into the Bradford house. Tom and the Maxwells had been waiting for Abby to show up (she'd canceled several dates with Tom already as she had a work of work to do) and confronted Mary without even saying hello to Tom and the Maxwells.
7. Whom did Mary talk to that changed her mind about wanting to win the election?

Answer: Nicholas' teacher

David, who was driving the campaign van, was surrounded by a crowd who thought that the Bradford running for election was him. David told the crowd that if he were elected, he'd support construction projects. Mary found out Nicholas had the same teacher she'd had and went to talk to the teacher, thinking it might help her figure out why Abby was so mad. Nicholas' teacher told Mary that she supported Mary in the election and that it was possible Abby could lose her job because of the austerity budget Mary proposed.
8. When confronted with the $55 bill for the campaign stickers, what did Tommy claim was the correct spelling for the name?

Answer: Brandford

Tommy only had $30 because he believed he'd only been quoted a price of $25 (which turned out was the price for the plate). He claimed the name had been mis=spelled and would pay $30 as no one could use the campaign items. The owner of the store looked up the order and saw a Susan Bradford had ordered the campaign materials, specifically with the Bradford spelling. Tommy then told the man he had only $30 on him.
9. Who was Mary's campaign manager?

Answer: Susan

Susan told Mary to dress like a candidate while going out to collect signatures. Mary was only convinced she needed to change after Elizabeth told her that she looked fine.

Tommy was roped into being in charge of the campaign's finances by Susan, who reminded Tommy he owed her $10.
10. What happened at the end of the episode?

Answer: Mary lost and Tom proposed to Abby

Tom and Abby had taken a slight break. However, Tom waited outside her apartment for her to leave one morning and they made up. Mary, who decided she actually didn't want to win, ended up losing the election. After hearing the results, Mary went onto the porch and Abby followed her. Mary told Abby that when she had decided for an austerity budget, she didn't know that Abby's position would possibly be affected. Abby told Mary that Abby wasn't mad because of her position being in jeopardy - she was upset because she thought Mary's proposal might hurt the children. Abby then confessed that she hadn't voted for Mary. And Mary confessed that she hadn't even voted for herself.

Mary then left the porch. Tom came in and proposed to Abby.
