Vivian found out her long-lost father was living in Hawaii. She arranged for the entire Bradford clan to go out there so Tom could see his father for the first time since he was ten. However, Vivian didn't tell anyone (except Abby, and then David and Janet when they said they couldn't go on the trip).

Vivian told the family that because she wasn't able to make it to the weddings of David and Janet and Susan and Merle, that she was taking everyone to Hawaii on a honeymoon. (Everyone else would be chaperones.)

When Tom saw how much luggage the family was packing, he made a rule of one suitcase per person. Tommy also brought his guitar, claiming it was a guitar, not luggage.

When the family got to Hawaii, Tom realised his suitcase was missing. One of the running gags in the episode was talking about the horrid bright pink shirt Vivian had bought for Tom so he'd have something to wear.

Vivian told Abby why she wasn't going to tell Tom what was going on while helping Abby pack. Abby and Vivian told David and Janet when David and Janet claimed they couldn't get away form their jobs.

Tommy didn't know until Tom went to the club to confront Matt, Tom's father.

Elizabeth and Nancy met two boys who claimed to be native Hawaiians. The boys took them snorkeling and there they saw something in the water, got scared, and ran away. The 'something' in the water turned out to be Susan and Merle, who were scuba diving.

Then, Susan and Merle were having dinner... Elizabeth, Nancy and the two boys showed up and took a table opposite the couple.

Finally, Elizabeth, Nancy and the two boys got lost in the wild. Susan and Merle had rented a car to get away from the family. (Merle claimed that he loved Susan's family, but they were like weeds. Once you plucked one, another shot up.) And who do they see on the side of the road, stranded, but Elizabeth, Nancy, and the two boys.

Matt was showing Nicholas how to make a proper sand castle and said that he named the club after him.

Abby had been told early on that the subject of Tom's father was verboten, and Abby had only heard Matt be mentioned a couple times. Vivian told Abby that Tom and Matt had been inseparable. But that Matt had been a dreamer and Tom's mother gave up on Matt. Then Matt gave up on himself, enlisted during the war, and left. He'd only written a couple times, and the letters trickled off.

Tom told Abby that she knew how he felt on the subject of his father. Abby replied that she knew, but that Vivian had explained that her plan would work and Abby didn't really know what to do, so she went along with it.

When Vivian tried to enlist Abby's help again, Abby claimed she had kept the secret once form Tom but wouldn't do it again.

Tom didn't really want to go to the 'dive' that Vivian had planned to take the family to. Abby said that she heard the place was quite nice and besides, it was to see Tommy perform. When Nicholas overheard that the name of the club was the Vagabond, he told Tom that that was Matt's club. Tom realised that he had been set up (again) and went down to the club to fetch Tommy.

It was there when he went to fetch Tommy that Tommy realised he had been spending time with his own grandfather.

Joanie and Mary were taking all the tours possible - a catamaran, several bus tours... But they kept seeing this man dressed in a suit on every single tour they took. And this man was watching them, too. They even took special precautions, such as changing buses at the last minute.

When they were with a bus tour that stopped to look at a cliff, they saw the man again. It turns out that he thought Joanie and Mary were following him! He shouted at them about how they were private detectives and if his wife wanted a divorce, she could have it - but to stop following him.

At the beginning of the episode, Tommy's band was driving Tom crazy by playing very loud and annoying songs.

Tommy hired two people who played ukulele and a bass player... but the trio only knew "Tiny Bubbles." The family got annoyed (and bored, while waiting for Matt and/or Tom to show up) and the song selection didn't help matters.

Just as Tommy told the musicians to take a hike, Tom and Matt walked down the beach toward the family. Tom then introduced his father to everyone.

Tom didn't really think the family should go to Hawaii because the family had responsibilities such as school and work. Abby finally got Tom to agree to go to Hawaii by mentioning that two of his children were already married and out of the home and it might be the last time the family could get together on vacation again.

Vivian had failed a couple times already to get Tom and Matt together, so she gave up and went to the airport. Elizabeth and Nancy found out that Vivian was leaving and decided to go to the airport to bring her back. They went to the beach, found the two 'Hawaiian' boys and had the boys drive then to the airport to stop Vivian. Nancy and Elizabeth were able to convince Vivian that one more try to get Matt and Ton together would be worth it.

When Vivia first came to the Bradford house, she claimed she'd been in Paris with her husband and got bored. She also joked that she got tired of being pinched (by her husband) and was all black and blue.

Tom and Matt both give this advice in the episode to Nicholas and Tommy. Nicholas is able to use Tom's advice against him to push him that much closer to being amenable to reconciling with Matt.

David and Janet originally weren't going to go to Hawaii because they both had a lot of work to do. But because Abby and Vivian impressed upon them how important the trip was, they agreed to go... But when Tommy came to their room, we saw David and Janet working in their hotel room. Janet tried using Tommy's appearance at their room as an excuse to leave the hotel room and stop working for a little bit.

However, David told Janet that there was no reason for both of them to stop working and he took Tommy out to go have a brother-brother talk. David suggested going to the beach to talk, but Tommy was bored of the beach and told David they would just talk in Tommy's room.
