David tried calling when Tommy showed up at his apartment, but the phone was busy (Tom was on the line calling the police).

David claimed that Tom's talk wouldn't make much sense. When Tom gave Tommy 'the talk', Tom used car metaphors, physics metaphors, and didn't really get too much into the whole facts of life thing. Tommy followed his brother's advice and just nodded his head the whole time.

The actress who played Joan, Diana Hyland, was only in the first few episodes of the show. She died of cancer and her character was written out of the remaining episodes of season 1 without an explanation of her character's disappearance.
