Answer: Outdoor Man

Mike Baxter is the director of marketing for Outdoor Man, a fictitious chain of 20 stores. When Mike began working for Ed it was just a single fish and bait shop but through his efforts it grew into the chain it is now. The show references that Mike used to travel extensively for the store hunting and fishing all over the world to help promote it. He has a vlog where he gives his opinions on whatever is on his mind that week.

On "Home Improvement", Tim had three sons and his wife was the fish out of water. On this show he has three daughters and he is the one who is outnumbered.

Answer: Kristin

When the show begins, Kristin (Amanda Fuller, season 2 on) and her son are living with the Baxters since she is a single mom trying to make ends meet by working at a diner and later going to community college also. She eventually ends up running a fancy upscale restaurant before being hired to open a restaurant at the Outdoor Man store. Kristin is liberal in her political beliefs and butts heads with Mike, especially over the values he teaches her son.

Answer: Mandy

Mandy (Molly Ephraim) starts the show as a shallow popularity obsessed teenager but ends up taking school more seriously when she enters college. During this time she also starts an online clothing store and has to hire the Baxter's maid to help her make the clothes to fill all of the orders. She shows real talent in managing the business which comes as a surprise to her parents.

Answer: Eve

Eve (Kaitlyn Dever) is in many ways the son Mike always wanted but never had. She shares his same interests in hunting and fishing and is good at sports. She is a star soccer player and even becomes the kicker for her high school football team. She enthusiastically embraces the military aspects of ROTC and becomes a leader in her unit.

She also shares her father's sarcastic sense of humor which she directs at Mandy almost without mercy.

Answer: Geologist

Vanessa (Nancy Travis) works as a geologist in the energy industry, a job that is at odds many times with her more liberal political beliefs. Vanessa is a people pleaser who wants everyone to like her whereas Mike could care less if people like him and this causes friction. Another underlying theme is Mike went to the University of Michigan and Vanessa went to Ohio State University. The rivalry between the schools plays out in their relationship too especially when it comes to sports.

In episode 5 of season 4 Vanessa decides to quit her job as a geologist because of all the red tape the federal government is now requiring and become a teacher at an underprivileged high school. The decision puts a financial strain on the family but Mike supports her decision. She returns to college to get her teaching degree.

Answer: Earl Hindman

Earl Hindman played Tim's neighbor Wilson on "Home Improvement" but died in 2003, eight years before "Last Man Standing" began airing.

Richard Karn guest starred in episode 9 of season 3 as an architect who has worked with Mike and Outdoor Man for years.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas played John Baker, a former co-worked of Kristin's who owns a fancy restaurant. He hires her to manage it for him. He appeared in three episodes over season 2 and 3 as this character.

Patricia Richardson guest starred as Helen Potts in episode 12 of season 4, the Baxter's neighbor who runs her tile saw at all hours. She is a divorcee who is trying to fix all of the mistakes her ex made in trying to home improvements, a nod to their former sitcom. Jonathan Taylor Thomas appears at the end of the episode as her son Randy, the role he played on "Home Improvement".

Answer: Vietnam War

Ed (Héctor Elizondo) is always referencing his time in Vietnam even though he served in the clerical pool and not frontline combat. In episode 12 of season 4 Eve has to do a project on Vietnam and wants to interview Ed until she finds out he has no combat stories. Thinking he is less heroic, Mike decides to show Eve what Ed does in his spare time. They go down to the local vet center where she sees Ed helping vets with all of the paperwork to get their benefits. His time serving in the clerical pool actually prepared him for the good work he is doing now and without it all of these vets would not be getting the help they earned.

Ed is Mike's compadre and they share the same values. But Ed has a soft spot for the ladies and has been divorced 4 times. He thinks this makes him a good person to give advice. Fortunately Mike rarely takes his advice.

Answer: Kyle

Kyle (Christoph Sanders) is a happy go lucky lackey who does not mind doing all of the dirty jobs that have to be done at Outdoor Man. Mike and Ed take advantage of this fact. Still his heart of gold keeps them from taking too much advantage.

In the first season Kyle dated Kristin but this did not last when her son's father returns to the picture. In season 2 he begins dating Mandy and they get along quite well because neither of them is too bright.

Answer: Boyd

In many ways Boyd (Flynn Morrison, season 2 on) is also the son Mike never had just like Eve. He takes special pride in teaching Boyd things his mom does not necessarily want Boyd learning. Kristin is far more liberal than Mike and they clash when it comes to Boyd.

But Mike always respects her wishes in the end because she is Boyd's mother. When Ryan (Jordan Masterson) comes back into the picture, Mike tolerates him for Boyd's sake even though he is just as liberal if not more so than Kristin.

Answer: Chuck

Chuck Larabee (Jonathan Adams) moves into the neighborhood in season 2. He and his wife, Carol (Erika Alexander), are African American. This makes Vanessa overly friendly but it does not stop Mike from sparring with Chuck over everything including race.

At first Mike thinks he will not like Carol who is running for the school board until he finds out they share the same conservative values.
