Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What alias did Tom Quinn use with his girlfriend?

Answer: Matthew Archer

Tom was on a case when he first met Ellie and had to keep his fake life as he began to date her. He eventually told her the truth, and she forced him to tell her daughter. Her daughter, Maisie, was actually very accepting of Tom's double life. Ironically, Matthew is the actual first name of the actor, Matthew Macfayden. Matthew Macfayden has also starred in 'Pride and Prejudice' opposite Keira Knightley and 'Death at a Funeral' alongside his wife and 'MI-5' co-star, Keeley Hawes.
2. Who were the bombs intended for in the first episode, 'Thou Shalt Not Kill'?

Answer: Abortion Doctors

The main villain, Mary Kane, was an American. Her husband was on death row in America for killing abortion doctors as well. She is handed over to the Americans for extradition at the end of the show. The American CIA agent was played by Megan Dodds who was the evil step-sister in the movie, 'Ever After'.
3. How did Danny abuse his MI-5 status for personal reasons?

Answer: He raised his credit score.

Danny's most apparent character flaw is his love for money and trouble staying within his means. When he asks Zoe to be his flatmate, she quickly realizes that he is merely worried about his bank account. Harry did catch Danny's computer trick and censured him. Danny was played by David Oyelowo.
4. While Zoe was working on a different case, she was taken hostage. What cause were the hostage takers promoting?

Answer: Kurdish rights

The Kurdish people are spread out in Iran, Iraq and Turkey. Zoe was in the Turkish embassy at the time. One militant realized that some of Zoe's belongings were not quite right. Her presence in the embassy did give MI-5 some help in quickly learning about the situation. Zoe was played by Keeley Hawes, wife of Matthew Macfayden.
5. Danny was not the only one abusing his connections to MI-5. What unethical way did Tessa earn extra cash?

Answer: She had phantom agents.

Tessa created imaginary, greedy agents and pocketed their payoffs. Tessa's secret was discovered when Harry insisted on Zoe meeting with one of her agents. Tessa attempted to bribe Zoe from telling, but Zoe's conscience would not let her. She informed Harry, and he had Tessa escorted out of the building. Zoe was crushed as she admired Tessa as a role model. Tessa also had a man killed to protect the man she was having an affair with. Tessa was played by Jenny Agutter.
6. In episode four, 'Traitor's Gate', what international official did MI-5 have to protect?

Answer: The American President

This job was complicated when one undercover agent, Peter Salter, fell in love with one of the anarchists. Tom Quinn, who saw Peter as a mentor, was very shaken. Peter was played by Anthony Head, who is better known as Giles on the TV show, 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'.
7. Which MI-6 agent took delight in being superior to the MI-5 agents?

Answer: Jools Siviter

Jools liked to refer to the MI-5 agents as the 'children'. He was played by Hugh Laurie. Laurie is more well-known in America as Dr. Greg House on the TV show, 'House'. Here he can talk in his own accent, but his attitude is not all that different.
8. In the final episode of the season, 'Lesser of Two Evils', Tom put his trust in a known terrorist. What cause was this terrorist related to?

Answer: Ireland

Patrick McCann came with an interesting proposition. He would help them stop the hit by Islamic terrorist on a nuclear power station if they would turn a blind eye to the Irish terrorists' actions over the next few days. His claim to help was that the fall out would affect Ireland as well.
9. What innocent substance endangered Ellie and Maisie?

Answer: Chocolate

To make his home the most secure, Tom put in the most up to date security including required key cards. Tom got locked out, but young Maisie dipped the security card in chocolate. Therefore both Ellie and Maisie got locked inside with a bomb. Their fates were not revealed until the second season opener.
10. What is the original title of the show in Great Britain?

Answer: 'Spooks'

Spook is a slang term for spy. As we are informed by the show, MI-5 is the branch that is concerned with security in Britain. MI-6 runs operations outside of Britain. The show airs on the BBC but is produced by Kudos.
