Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What race wanted such an absolutely precise treaty with the Federation that a 500,000 word document was required?

Answer: Sheliak

A Sheliak owned planet had a human colony on it. They wouldn't give the Federation time to evacuate the colony, and were just going to destroy it, but Captain Picard used an arbitration clause in the treaty to delay the takeover and save the colonists.
2. In 'Evolution', Dr. Stubbs rewarded himself for his hard work by recreating old sporting events in his mind. What was the sport?

Answer: Baseball

At one point in the episode, Dr. Stubbs is heard recreating Bobby Thompson's home run known as 'The shot heard round the world'. It's one of the most famous pennant winning home runs in baseball history.
3. In 'The Survivors', which crew member's mind was filled with music?

Answer: Troi

Kevin appeared to be human, but was in reality a being that possessed enormous power. Counsellor Troi was starting to realize this fact, so he put music in her mind to distract her.
4. When Marla Aster was killed on an away mission, who was in command?

Answer: Worf

Because Worf felt responsible for her death, he performed a ceremony called The R'uustai (bonding) with her son Jeremy, which made them brothers.
5. In 'Booby Trap', Geordi developed an attatchment for the holographic verison of whom?

Answer: Leah Brahms

La Forge was trying to find a way to get the Enterprise out of the trap they'd been snared by. Dr. Brahms worked on the Enterprise during construction, and Geordi created a holographic version of her, complete with personality, to have someone to discuss solutions with. Geordi's interest in that hologram would cause him problems in a future episode.
6. Which race's shuttlecraft became trapped in the Delta Quadrant in 'The Price'?

Answer: Ferengi

An apparently stable wormhole was being investigated by both the Federation and the Ferengi. Data and Geordi figured out that the wormhole wasn't stable and got back, but the Ferengi waited too long. The Ferengi crew would be seen again in a 'Voyager' episode.
7. Who was the killer in the episode 'The Vengeance Factor'?

Answer: Yuta

The Acamarian clans spent years in blood feuds with each other before making peace. Yuta was the last survivor of the Tralesta clan, and had been genetically altered so that she could kill off the members of the Lornack clan. Riker was interested in her romantically, but was forced to kill her to save her would be victim.
8. In the episode 'The Defector', Admiral Jarok defected because of false information given to him by his own government. True or false?

Answer: True

He was given phony plans for a war against the Federation by his own people, to test his loyalty. After the trick was exposed and the Enterprise had barely gotten out of the trap, he committed suicide.
9. In 'The High Ground', who did the terrorists abduct?

Answer: Dr. Crusher

They were using an interdimensional transporter (don't we all love Trek speak) that was causing internal injuries to the people using it. Dr. Crusher was abducted to provide medical care.
10. What did Q give to Data as a thank you gift in 'Deja Q'?

Answer: A belly laugh

The Q continuum took Q's powers, leaving him at risk of attacks from races he'd tormented. Data suffered severe damage while saving Q from one of them, and when Q got his powers back, he let Data experience a hearty belly laugh in gratitude.
11. Who caused Dr. Apgar's death in 'A Matter of Perspective'?

Answer: Dr. Apgar

Dr. Apgar had developed a new energy source for the Federation, but he planned to sell it to the highest bidder. He thought that Riker had figured this out, and tried to kill him. The plan backfired, and he accidentally destroyed himself and the lab.
12. The next 2 questions are about the episode 'Yesterday's Enterprise'. First, how many years had the Enterprise C gone forward in time?

Answer: 22

The Enterprise C was originally destroyed by the Romulans while saving a Klingon outpost. The Klingons were impressed, which led to peace. When they were kicked ahead in time during the battle, the outpost was destroyed, which led to war.
13. Second, what character missing from the Enterprise D at the time the Enterprise C came through in the future was in the alternate reality?

Answer: Tasha

With the Federation at war, Tasha didn't die. Guinan realized the timeline had changed, and that Tasha originally died a senseless death. To give her death meaning, she went back with the Enterprise C to the fight with the Romulans. There would be some interesting twists to come out of that decision in future episodes.
14. What was the name of Data's daughter?

Answer: Lal

Data used himself as a model to create an android in an attempt to carry on his species. Lal was fine at first, but she had a wide range of emotions that she couldn't handle, and eventually shut down.
15. What was the name of Worf's father?

Answer: Mogh

Mogh was killed at the Khitomer massacre, and Worf was found by a Starfleet officer who raised him. Worf's grandfather defended Kirk and McCoy in 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country'.
16. In 'Captain's Holiday', Captain Picard has an interesting shore leave. What planet was he on?

Answer: Risa

Picard was all but ordered by his own crew to take time off. After getting to Risa, he got involved with an attractive archeologist named Vash on a romantic adventure.
17. What was Lt. Barclay's nickname on the Enterprise?

Answer: Broccoli

Barclay proved that even in the future, some people are hypocondriacs and don't fit in very well. In his holodeck fantasies, we also got to see some very different interpretations of familiar characters.
18. Who composed the musical piece that brought Ambassador Sarek to tears?

Answer: Brahms

Sarek's show of emotion was a tipoff that he had a serious problem. This episode also gave us a better idea of just how talented Patrick Stewart is. His performance as the emotional half of the Sarek and Picard mindmeld was really impressive.

This was in spite of the description of the concert as a Mozart concert. The piece that brought Sarek to tears was by Brahms, the second movement of his Sextet No. 1. The first piece in the program was by Mozart.
19. In 'Transfigurations', whose life does the alien called John save?

Answer: Worf

Part of his transformation from a physical being to an energy based being was the development of the power to heal. John accidentally caused Worf's death, but brought him back to life.
20. At the end of the episode 'The Best of Both Worlds', Riker gives the order to fire. What was being fired?

Answer: Deflector Dish

They are firing a burst of energy through the deflector dish, intending to destroy the Borg cube. The season ended with Picard as a Borg, and the Enterprise trying to destroy the cube he was on.
