While on the phone with Cas, Dean heard the show in the background, and asked if Castiel was watching "Jenny Jones." Cas admitted he was, and told Dean it was "a rerun" and "She's just about to announce the paternity results." While watching the news, Castiel saw Metatron's reflection in a video camera, and realized he was working as a cameraman in Omaha. Castiel tracked down the former angel, retrieved the demon tablet, and interrogated him.

Sam's amusing reference was to the time between seasons 9 and 10 and the first few episodes of season 10, when Dean was a demon, and he and Crowley hung out together. Crowley tried to convince Dean to rule Hell with him. Dean had no interest in that, and the Mark of Cain made him so powerful that he became a threat to Crowley. So, Crowley led Sam to his brother.

When Castiel asked Metatron about the Darkness, he admitted that God had told him that Amara was his sister. Metatron stated that, "what he did - creation - that took work. Took sacrifice. In order to create the world, God had to give up the only thing he'd ever known. He had to betray and sacrifice his only kin. The Darkness. His sister."

Answer: Ghost

The ghost was attached to costume masks, and was able to possess those wearing the masks, using them to kill those he blamed for his death. To stop him, the brothers had to burn the masks.

Answer: Sheriff Donna

Donna called the brothers after someone wearing a bunny mask killed a man, and the bunny head would not come off. The brothers eventually figured out that they were chasing a ghost, and working with Donna, stopped the ghost and saved some people. One notable costume was a clown, which led to a classic fight for clown-phobic Sam in an elevator.

This was the third episode for Donna. She first met the Winchesters during "The Purge" in season 9. She then worked with the brothers and Jody during "Hibbing 911" in season 10.

In this case, the supernatural creatures were the victims. The brothers were hunting the killer of several xana - supernatural creatures that befriend lonely, lost or needy children, and help them, guiding them until they can make it on their own. Since the creatures are invisible to all except the children, adults think they are imaginary friends.

The killer was Reese, a human who blamed a xana for the death of her twin, and for abandoning her.

Sam was the only one that could see Sully, his imaginary friend from childhood, who turned out to be a xana. Sully soon allowed Dean to see him, though, so he could ask the brothers' help in solving his friend's murder.

Dean was skeptical about Sully. Dean called him "Mork from Ork" when he first met him. In Dean's defense, Sully was dressed like Robin Williams in the television show "Mork and Mindy." He also announced he was going to get his gun. Sully stopped him by explaining he was a xana and needed help.

When Sam suggested Sully was telling the truth, Dean responded, "Say Bozo is legit . . . How is this our problem?" Later, when talking to Sam about his childhood, he asked, "What did you need Drop Dead Fred for in the first place?" This referred to the movie by that name, where a child's imaginary friend, Fred, reappears in her life when she is an adult. Dean never called Sully a manicorn. One of the xana victims was Sparkle, who looked like half man, half unicorn. Dean immediately called Sparkle a "manicorn."

Answer: Ariel

In "Just My Imagination," Sam was remembering his childhood with Sully while they buried the xana. When Dean realized Sam was not helping, Dean asked Sam, "Am I burying Ariel by myself here or what?" "Ariel" is the name of the princess in Disney's "The Little Mermaid."

Amara slaughtered a street minister and his followers, and later the priest and his parishioners, in an attempt to force God to face her. While there was no reaction from God, she did get the Angels attention, and they attempted to smite her at the end of the episode.

Rowena made a fuss about being concerned that the brothers or Crowley would harm her after she helped them. She also acted surprised to hear that Lucifer was in the cage in Hell. But, she agreed to work on a spell to allow Sam to speak to the Angel, while protecting Sam. Dean told her they would work together to save the world from the darkness and then "go back to killing each other" and Crowley called their arrangement a "devil's bargain."

Answer: Lucifer

When Sam told Lucifer that God had answered his prayers and told him to seek Lucifer out, Lucifer first acted surprised, saying, "Get out of town!" Later, after trapping Sam, Lucifer gleefully told him that it was not God that sent him the visions, but was instead him.

He explained to a horrified Sam that when the darkness was released, the cage was damaged, allowing him to reach out to Sam. He also told Sam he wanted him to allow him to use Sam as his vessel.

During their exchange, Amara told Dean that she "was the beginning" and would be "the end." After Dean stuck the knife into her and watched it disintegrate, Amara said, "You had to know that was pointless. I know you are a warrior and your instinct is to resist. But, I can't be resisted." She then grabbed his face and opened her mouth, as she had done to take many souls in previous episodes. But, she did not follow through, and, instead, she kissed him.

She later told him they would "become one." The exchange was then interrupted when Angels attacked Amara and she sent Dean away with the flick of her hand.

Lucifer was in fine form in this episode. He acted so surprised to see Sam, Crowley and Rowena, calling Sam "My old roomie," and asking, "Am I up for parole? Time off for bad behavior?" And then saying sadly, "I don't really get visitors." He then acted surprised that the Darkness had been released and that God had led Sam to him, but quickly pivoted to telling Sam he needed a vessel to stop the darkness, and telling him he could not say no to his visions, since they were "the word of God." When Sam refused, the warding was suddenly removed, and Sam found himself inside the cell with Lucifer, who turned menacing and revealed that, "It wasn't God inside your head Sam.

It was me. So you see - he's not with you. He's never been with you.

It was always just me."
