Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This TV astronaut's first landing was off-course, landing him near a tropical island. When he walks about the beach, he comes across a bottle that contains a magical woman who ends up turning his life upside-down for the next five years (on TV at least).

Answer: Anthony Nelson

From "I Dream of Jeannie". Jeannie (Barbara Eden) immediately falls in love with "master" Tony Nelson (Larry Hagman). He hems and haws about his attraction to her, but finally relents, and marries Jeannie for the last season. Roger Healey (Bill Daily) was Tony's best friend, also an astronaut, and the only other non-magical person to be in on Jeannie's nature. Biff Jellico was a guest character on "I Dream of Jeannie", played by Barbara Eden's then-husband Michael Ansara.

Sean Jeffrey Christopher (not portrayed) was the future leader of the Saturn Probe mentioned in the "Star Trek" episode "Tomorrow is Yesterday". He is the yet-unborn son of an USAF pilot Major Christopher (Roger Perry), whom the Enterprise unintentionally captured and reasoned that they had to return to his 20th-century life so that he could father Sean.
2. "Gilligan's Island" episode "Nyet, Nyet, Not Yet": The castaways are visited by two Soviet Cosmonauts named what?

Answer: Ivan and Igor

In this episode, the Cosmonauts snuck Vodka in their capsule. It was revealed years later this actually occurred on some Soviet Space missions.
3. "Moonlighting": Maddie at one point has a romantic relationship with an astronaut.

Answer: True

Sam Crawford (played by Mark Harmon) plays a shuttle astronaut who is grounded because of the real-life Challenger tragedy of 1986.
4. Capt. Adam Quark had this unusual professional subcategory besides being a space ship captain.

Answer: garbage collector

In the TV show "Quark" (1977), aside from their assigned duties as members of the United Galactic Sanitation Patrol, Quark and his crew met with adventures against evil denizens of space. Quark was played by Richard Benjamin, from "Westworld" fame.

Later in TV-dom, a bartender on "Star Trek: Deep Space 9" was also named Quark (Armin Shimerman). But he was not usually a space traveller; he was often a contact person for the black market that did its business near Deep Space Nine.
5. A Martian's spacecraft crash lands near Los Angeles. Its sole crew member is befriended by a newspaper reporter. Instead of turning him in, he protects the Martian's identity (by saying he's his uncle) until the Martian can fix his craft and return home

Answer: My Favorite Martian

The character Uncle Martin (played by Ray Walston) was ranked #3 in 'TV Guide's' list of the "25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends" (1 August 2004 issue). Walston also played Boothby in "Star Trek: The Next Generation", the groundskeeper at Star Fleet Academy. Walston died on the first day of the 21st century: January 1, 2001.
6. "Lost in Space": Name one of the two humans on board the Jupiter 2 that are *not* members of the Robinson family.

Answer: zachary smith

Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris) was an accidentally stowaway that was trying to sabotage the mission. While not destroying the craft, his sabotage to the robot and his unexpected mass threw off the navigation of the Jupiter 2, causing it to become hopelessly lost.

Jonathan Harris had other notable space-related roles. He was CDR Isaac Gampu on the Saturday morning kids show "Space Academy". He was also the voice of the Cylon robot Lucifer in the first version of "Battlestar Galactica".

Major Don West (Mark Goddard) was the pilot of the Jupiter 2. Mark Goddard didn't do any other space-related roles, except for a cameo appearance as a general in the 1998 movie remake of "Lost in Space"; his Maj. West role went to Matt Le Blanc of "Friends" fame.
7. Which of the following space-related shows was *not* based at a space station or satellite?

Answer: Stargate SG-1

"Mystery Science Theatre 3000" was based at the "Satellite of Love" (named after the Lou Reed song). Evil scientists on Earth would torture the janitor they shot into space by making him watch incredibly bad movies.

"Star Trek: Deep Space 9" was based at the old Cardassian space station Terok Nor, which was rename Deep Space 9 after the Federation took over operation of it jointly with the Bajorans.

Buzz Lightyear mainly traveled in space to his missions, but always returned home to the Star Command space station that was in orbit about the Galactic Alliance's home planet.
8. This TV space traveller was frozen in his spacecraft and re-awoken a little more than 500 years later. Once re-animated, he became a hero to the people of Earth.

Answer: Buck Rogers

The pilot movie "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" (1979) was meant as a TV pilot. But no networks chose to air it, so it debuted in theatres.

Roger's ship from the 20th century was called "Ranger 3" by the narrator. Ranger 3 coincidentally was a 1962 lunar probe which missed the moon and was lost in space.
9. An alien returns to Earth to find a human female that befriended him on his first visit. On that visit, he had assumed her late husband's form, using DNA from a hair sample. On this second visit, he assumes the form of a photographer that had just died in a helicopter crash. That photographer's name was what?

Answer: Paul Forrester

From "Starman". Robert Hayes played Paul Forrester/Starman He is better known for his quirky comedy roles in the movies "Airplane!" and "Airplane II: The Sequel".
10. This pair of maintenance workers mistaken launch themselves into space, when the dimmer of the two reads the "LAUNCH" button as "LUNCH" as he's loading the craft with food.

Answer: Barney and Junior

From "Far Out Space Nuts": This Saturday-morning real-life comedy adventure show featured Bob Denver, of "Gilligan's Island" fame. Chuck McCann's role of Barney was a bit of a take-off on Skipper from "Gilligan's Island", thus cementing the parallel of this show to that one.
