Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Heyes and Curry were members of the Devil's Hole Gang. In what state did this gang primarily operate?

Answer: Wyoming

The Devil's Hole Gang was a fictionalization of the actual Hole-in-the-Wall Gang whose members included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Their hideout was a remote location in the Bighorn Mountains of Johnson County in northern Wyoming. Another real life member of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang was Harvey "Kid Curry" Logan, on whom the character Jedidiah "Kid" Curry is loosely based.
2. In the pilot of the series, our two heroes discuss their plans to go straight with Sheriff Lom Trevors. Which former star of "The Virginian" played Sheriff Trevors?

Answer: James Drury

Drury played the role in the pilot, but John Russell of "The Lawman" portrayed Sheriff Trevors in subsequent episodes of the series. Drury didn't wear facial hair in his role as The Virginian, but as Sheriff Trevors he sported a mustache.
3. Now we get to their aliases. Which name did Heyes adopt?

Answer: Joshua Smith

I suppose John Smith would have appeared too phony. When speaking to each other, they used their real names. However, in one episode, Heyes was sick and talked in his sleep, thus revealing their true identities to the woman who was caring for him.
4. What was Curry's alias?

Answer: Thaddeus Jones

Jones was a common name, but Thaddeus made it less so.
5. Kid Curry was the fast gun.

Answer: True

Since they were trying to stay out of trouble, the Kid used his fast gun only as a last resort. Unfortunately, he was often goaded into gunplay.
6. Heyes was the master safe cracker.

Answer: True

Heyes was an expert at listening to the tumblers to figure out the combination, but, if necessary, he also possessed the scientific skills to blow a safe without using dynamite. He was also the smooth talker, ace poker player, and the mastermind of the duo's plans.
7. Which singer/actor played Patrick "Big Mac" McCreedy in a recurring guest role?

Answer: Burl Ives

McCreedy was a wealthy rancher who hired Heyes and Curry to "procure" an art object from his nemesis across the border in Mexico. He was a skinflint who regularly reneged on his promised payment for their service.
8. McCreedy had a running feud with his Mexican neighbor, Armendariz. Who played this character?

Answer: Cesar Romero

It was a silly game of one-upsmanship, with Heyes and Curry caught in the middle. They finally resolved the fighting by playing matchmaker, introducing McCreedy to Armendariz's sister Carlotta, played by Katy Jurado. Cesar Romero is better known for playing the Joker on the "Batman" TV series.
9. The two fought over land, but their feud also extended to possession of a bust of a famous historical person. Who was it a sculpture of?

Answer: Caesar

Armendariz eventually ended up with the bust, but McCreedy married Carlotta Armendariz, and their union ended the dispute. For their part in bringing the two together, McCreedy finally paid Heyes and Curry the full $5,000 he promised them.
10. Which actor narrated the show's intro and then stepped into the role of Heyes upon the tragic death of Pete Duel?

Answer: Roger Davis

Davis had previously guest starred in the episode "Smiler With a Gun," in which he played a swindler who challenged Curry to a gunfight.

Elliott certainly has the voice for narration and the experience acting in westerns, notably movies made from Louis L'Amour novels. Mark Slade played Blue Cannon in "The High Chaparral." James Stacy played Johnny Lancer in "Lancer."
