"All of Us Are Dead" - Intramural Zombification Quiz

Two companies, both based in Seoul, Korea, collaborated to produce "All of Us Are Dead": JTBC Studios (which rebranded itself as "Studio LuluLala") and Film Monster Co., Ltd. Distribution arrangements were made through NetFlix. Production was entirely within South Korea and paused, in August of 2020, due to the resurgence of the COVID-19 virus in that nation.

Answer: a webtoon

Joo Dong-geun authored a Naver webtoon entitled "Now at Our School" (2009-2011). Naver is a webtoon publisher founded in 2004 which publishes webtoons and compact digital comics in South Korea. Chun Sung-il wrote the television script for "All of Us Are Dead" based on Joo's webtoon.

Answer: in a high school

Hyosan High School is a fictional high school constructed by the production crew to appear to be a four-story building. Director Lee Jae-kyoo said the set was built from scratch. The set designers strove to create a happy, clean, welcoming school environment to contrast with the blood and gore which were to follow.

The green walls and green school uniforms were intended to contrast with the spilled blood. The constructed set was 100 meters long and looked even bigger.

Answer: a victim was transported to a hospital

A student at Hyosan High School, Kim Hyeon-ju, is bitten by an infected hamster in the science lab. She slowly transforms into a zombie and is taken to the school's nurse's station, where she bites the school nurse. She is taken to a nearby hospital where she bites several people who then spread the infection throughout the city.

Answer: archery

The members of the archery team are easily distinguished from the other students. They are wearing all-white uniforms; the others are wearing green. Many are killed in their first confrontation with the zombies but, in Episode 3, surviving team members find and join the other surviving students. Shooting an arrow through a zombie's head appears to kill them.

Answer: a high-school teacher created it

Lee Byeong-chan, played by Kim Byung-chul, is a life sciences teacher at Hyosan High School. He was angry at the school for its failure to protect his son from bullying. He developed a virus to make his son stronger but an unforeseen consequence was that it created zombies. Detective Song Jae-ik arrests Lee who confesses all of this to him before sacrificing his own life to protect the police station from a zombie attack.

Answer: Yes

Nam So-ju, played by Jeon Bae-soo, is a captain in the Hyosan Fire Department and the head of Rescue Team 1. His daughter Nam On-jo, played by Park Ji-hu, is a student in Class 2-5 at Hyosan High School. In Season 1, Episode 10, the surviving students are about to attempt an escape from the auditorium when they open a door to the outside and there is Captain Nam.

In the next episode, as they enter a fenced-in tennis court, he sacrifices his life to allow the students (including his daughter) to escape.

Answer: the military bombed Hyosan

In Season 1, Episode 10, the scientists advising the Korean army predict that the epidemic will grow exponentially until it infects all of Korea. In Season 1, Episode 11, Jin Seon-moo, the military commander, decides that bombing Hyosan will save far more people than it kills and orders the attack. The army uses drones to draw the zombies into the areas on which they drop bombs.

Answer: he committed suicide

Jin Seon-moo, played by Kim Jong-tae, orders the bombing of Hyosan. The zombies are herded into a few target zones by drones playing 24 hz tones and incinerated by the subsequent bombing. Tens of thousands of uninfected civilians are killed, as well. In Season 1, Episode 11, Jin puts on his best formal military uniform, speaks to his wife on the phone, and then kills himself with his pistol.

Answer: No

While almost everyone bitten by a zombie turns into a zombie within minutes of infection, a very few such people display only some zombie characteristics. Such people are called "halfbies" or "hambies." Yoon Gwi-nam (the juvenile delinquent played by Yoo In-soo), Choi Nam-ra (the class president played by Cho Yi-hyun) and Min Eun-ji (a student bullied by Yoon Gwi-nam, played by Oh Hye-soo) are examples.
