Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Grace Hanadarko is a homicide detective, a tough gal who smokes, drinks too much and has lots of boyfriends. The show revolves around Grace's job, her fellow detectives, her family, and her messy personal life. Where does "Saving Grace" take place?

Answer: Oklahoma

The show is set in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma-there are many references to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, which traumatized Grace. Grace's unusual last name is taken from the city of Anadarko, Oklahoma. The show's producer Nancy Miller is from Oklahoma, and has named most of the show's characters after Oklahoma cities.
2. One night, after partying in a bar, Grace takes off in her Porsche. On the road, she hits a pedestrian. She's half-drunk and very upset, and cries out for help. At that moment a man appears, offering to help her. Turns out the man is an angel. What is his name?

Answer: Earl

He's a real angel, and his name is Earl. He looks like a regular guy, except for a huge set of wings which he displays sometimes-they seem to appear out of nowhere. He's been sent to save Grace's soul, which won't be easy. Grace is not a religious person, and seems angry at God for several reasons which come to light later on. Earl is played by Leon Rippy.
3. Rhetta Rodriguez is Grace's best friend, has been since they were kids. Rhetta is a colleague of Grace's - she works in the Oklahoma City crime lab, next door to Grace's squad room. The actress portraying Rhetta made one of her first appearances in the 1989 film "Sex, Lies and Videotape." Who is she?

Answer: Laura San Giacomo

Laura San Giacomo played Julia Roberts' best friend in the 1990 smash "Pretty Woman", and was one of the stars of the TV show "Just Shoot Me".
Rhetta learns about Earl's visits to Grace early on, and she's fascinated. She's a believer, but she's a scientist too, and she wants tangible evidence of Earl's divine mission. The friendship between the women is strong, in spite of the fact they are total opposites.
4. Grace isn't the only person receiving visits from the angel. The man hit by Grace's car sees him regularly as well. The man's name is Leon Cooley, and there's one unusual fact about him. Where does Leon live?

Answer: On Death Row

Leon Cooley is on Death Row for murder. He was supposed to be in prison when he was hit by Grace's car. Leon has appeared several times in places other than Death Row. It's Earl's doing-he's able to transport people anywhere he wants.
5. What is Grace's relationship with her partner, Ham Dewey?

Answer: She's having an affair with him

Grace and Ham are having an affair. Ham is married, but that doesn't stop Grace. Ham loves Grace, in spite of the fact that he knows about many of her sexual adventures and isn't happy about them.

Answer: She punches him in the nose

Grace punched rich rancher Alvin Green twice, and she's punched out several other obnoxious men since.

8. During a murder case, a hotshot L.A. lawyer looks for ways to embarrass and discredit the homicide detectives. To humiliate Grace he brings in a parade of men, all have been Grace's lovers. How does Grace react to this?

Her words: "And those guys were just from the summer, we'll need another room for spring and fall." It was a long parade.
9. Rhetta has become obsessed with Earl, and has compiled a list of clues that might lead her to find out more about him. He only appears to Grace and Leon Cooley, and Rhetta is a religious woman who is anxious to talk to the angel. What are the supposed clues left by Earl?

Answer: Tacos, tulips, ducks and spices

The name of the episode is "Tacos, tulips, ducks and spices", referring to things that Earl has left behind after his visits, which Rhetta takes to be clues.
10. It's obvious that Grace is a troubled woman, although she puts up a very good front. In the first season finale, the truth comes out. What is it that is causing Grace so much pain?

Answer: She was molested by a priest as a young girl

In the dramatic first season finale, the truth comes out. Grace was nine when she was the victim of a predatory priest, now an old man. At the very end of the episode, Grace breaks into the old man's home and holds a gun to his head. The priest then says something that sounds like he too has a connection to the angel Earl.
