Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Teams departed from which country in Leg 9 and headed to Japan?

Answer: India

In the beginning of Leg 9, teams opened their Route Info clues at the Bandra Fort on the Arabian Coast in Mumbai, India and were informed that they would need to head to the airport to catch a plane to Osaka, Japan, four thousand miles away. Although TK and Rachel initially made an early flight arrangement, other teams took fast connecting flights (though everyone arrived in the afternoon at one point or another). Upon arriving, teams needed to take a taxi and find Kishiwada Castle where their first clue would be located.
2. To which location did team members need to drive in the Road Block task for Leg 9 (in Japan)?

Answer: Post office

After finding Kishiwada Castle, teams made their way to Noda Station in Osaka to locate their Road Block task, being held by this particular station's cleaning man, for this leg of the race. Here, one member of each team was required to hop into a taxi and take a designated couple five miles through Osaka's confusing streets and roadways to the Osaka Central Post Office building to receive their clue (without any help from the couple and without having a local direct them the whole way).

After this, they would need to return to their partner to open their clue. Jennifer, Christina, Nicolas and Rachel finished this one.
3. In the 'Sense of Touch' Detour option in Japan in Leg 9, what game did teams need to play with robots?

Answer: Soccer

After the Road Block, teams took cabs to the Kita-Mido Temple in Osaka to locate their next clue box (which contained a Detour). For this, teams needed to select either 'Sense of Touch' or 'Sense of Smell'. In 'Sense of Touch', teams needed to make their way by foot to the Shimojima Building and using provided cell phones, guide robots through a tabletop soccer game. Each member of the team needed to score one goal before receiving their clue from their opposing side.
4. How many team members completed the 'Sense of Smell' Detour task in Leg 9 in Japan?

Answer: Three

Those not completing 'Sense of Touch' finished 'Sense of Smell' instead. For this task, teams needed to travel to a local flower shop and, using only their nose, locate one of only a few real flowers in a shop composed entirely of artificial ones. Only Nicolas and Donald did not complete 'Sense of Smell' as they opted for 'Sense of Touch' instead.

After this Detour, teams were told to make their way to the next Pit Stop: Tempozan Park at Mount Tenpo.
5. Which team was first to arrive at the Pit Stop in Japan in Leg 9?

Answer: Ronald and Christina

After the Detour, teams headed by taxi to the ninth Pit Stop, Tempozan Park, and Ron and Christina ended up arriving in first narrowly beating out Nathan and Jennifer. For their second first place victory in the race, Ron and Christina won electric cars for use after the race. TK and Rachel, who ended up taking a later flight than the others, arrived at the Pit Stop several hours after the third place team and ended up placing last in this leg. Luckily, it would be the second of only two non-elimination points, and they would race another day.
6. In Leg 10, teams needed to fly to what country to continue on the race?

Answer: Taiwan

Starting Leg 10, teams made their way to the Umeda Sky Building's Floating Garden to find their first clue of the leg (though they were simply told to find a building with a hole in it). Once there, teams were told to make their way to the island of Taiwan, one thousand miles away, where they needed to travel by taxi to Taipei Main Station.

Here, a clue informed them that they had to take a high speed train from the city of Taipei to Taichung. Because teams departed in the morning, all four teams were nearly able to meet up in the airport in Osaka though only Ronald and Christina were able to get the first flight to Taiwan.
7. Which team member completed the stunt vehicle Road Block task in Leg 10?

Answer: Rachel

Reaching Taichung, Taiwan, teams made their way to Acrobatics Jeep in the town of Jiji. Here, one member of each team needed to complete the Road Block task for this leg of the race in which they would need to hop into a Jeep and allow a driver to balance them onto a teeter-totter high above the ground.

Then, they would need to drive off and get into an amphibious Jeep to drive seventeen seconds underwater before receiving their next clue. Rachel, Ronald, Donald, and Nathan completed this task.

After the Road block, teams took the train back to Taipei.
8. One team completed a Speed Bump during Leg 10 of the race. This required that the participating team eat a local delicacy.

Answer: False

In order to complete the Speed bump, TK and Rachel had to deviate from the race course in Jiji to visit the nearby Heping Elementary School. Here, both members needed to put on protective clothing and run through a slew of fireworks to receive their next clue to bring them back to the race course. Luckily, since the two of them were already running ahead some of the other teams from the second flight, they were able to breeze through this extra task calmly to continue on. Teams made their way back to Taipei to find the GK teahouse where each member would need to drink a cup of tea to carry on.

Their next clue would be on the bottom of the inside of the teacup.
9. In Leg 10, when confronted with a Detour choice between 'Fire' and 'Earth', which option did all of the teams take?

Answer: 'Earth'

After drinking their tea, teams needed to take a taxi to find a clown performing at Gong Guan Night Market. This would be teams' Detour clue, a choice between 'Fire' and 'Earth'. In 'Fire', which none of the teams finished, they would've needed to go to Zhongzheng Park to participate in a good fortune ritual involving floating lanterns. Once they filled twenty lanterns with air to lift them into the sky filled with good luck messages, they would receive their clue.

Instead, all teams completed 'Earth' in which they headed to Youth Park to walk barefoot along two-hundred-twenty yards of jagged rocks, then back across them, to get their clue.
10. Which team was eliminated in Leg 10?

Answer: Nathan and Jennifer

After completing the Detour task, teams made their way to the final Pit Stop of this race: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Ron and Christina, due to their early flight, came in first place yet again winning a spot in the final three and a trip to Curacao in the Dutch Antilles. TK and Rachel and Nicolas and Donald arrived in second and third respectively (even despite the former teams bout with the Speed Bump). Nathan and Jennifer, who took untrustworthy directions from a local, couldn't recover from their bad judgment and became the final team eliminated from the race.
11. In Leg 11, teams flew to their final destination city in Alaska. Which city was it?

Answer: Anchorage

Opening a clue at their final Pit Stop in Taiwan, teams were instructed to make their way to the airport to fly to Anchorage, Alaska, home to their final destination and the finish line. All three teams proceeded to the United States on the same flightpath and arrived in Alaska early in the day. Upon their arrival, teams were told to locate 6th Avenue Outfitters where they would collect gear for the remainder of the leg and receive their next clue.
12. In Leg 11, which team completed the 'Grab the Crab' Detour task in Alaska?

Answer: TK and Rachel

Heading out from 6th Avenue Outfitters, team made their way to the local Ship Creek Boat Launch to read their final Detour clue, a choice between 'Cut the Cod' and 'Grab the Crab'. In 'Cut the Cod', teams needed to use supplied knives to cut into a number of dead cod fish.

Inside one would be a small canister containing their next clue. Ronald and Christina and Nicolas and Donald completed this task. In 'Grab the Crab', teams needed to search through a tank of one hundred live crabs for one with a ribbon tied around it to receive their next clue. TK and Rachel were the only ones to complete this task.
13. At Twenty-Mile River, teams needed to perform which of these tasks to advance?

Answer: Ice climbing

After the Detour, teams made their way by taxi to Twenty-Mile River, sixty miles outside of Anchorage, where both members needed to hop into a speedboat and make their way upriver to perform an ice climb up the side of Merrill Glacier. Once both members made their way to the top of the glacier they would receive a clue and a helicopter ride to the nearby Merrill Field, where they would be able to continue along the race course. Teams then needed to make their way to Goose Lake Park for their next task.
14. Which item was not used in the final Road Block task of the race in Leg 11?

Answer: Clue box

At Goose Lake Park, teams found the final Road Block task of the race, a memory test designed for one member of the team. For this task, the selected member needed to go to a station containing fifteen items seen over the course of the different legs of the race and select ten to place on a stage meeting specific criteria.

These ten each needed to be from different legs of the race, one needed to be a U-Turn, one needed to be from a Detour, three needed to be animals or animal by-products, three needed to be from or brought to a Pit Stop, two had to be wheeled transportation, and one had to be a transportation item in the shape of a stick. Players could use one item to fill multiple requirements if need-be. Rachel, Christina, and Nicolas completed this final Road Block.
15. Which team won "The Amazing Race 12"?

Answer: TK and Rachel

After the Road Block, teams were told to first make their way to a statue of Captain Cook in Anchorage, and then walk to a statue of the Salmon Hooker. Here, teams found their final clue directing them to the finish line at Girdwood Airport, almost forty miles away from Anchorage.

Although the race was close, TK and Rachel were the first to reach the runway and land on the Finish Line winning the one million dollar prize and "The Amazing Race 12". They were followed shortly thereafter by Ronald and Christina in second place and Nicolas and Donald in third.
