Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 9, teams flew to what city, found in the Kingdom of Bahrain?

Answer: Manama

Teams needed to leave Harare, Zimbabwe at the start of their ninth leg and commence a gauntlet of flights to reach the city of Manama, the capital of Bahrain, where they would be spending this portion of the race. To get there, teams needed to fly through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Dubai, UAE, a more-than-3,000 mile trip.

When they arrived, teams could pick up their vehicles and head onward to their first destination.
2. Visiting the Dhow Shipyard in Bahrain in Leg 9, teams needed to haul which of these?

Answer: Timber

Reaching Manama, teams needed to drive themselves to the Dhow Shipyard in the city of Muharraq where they could start the first in a chain of tasks. The first to-do was a physical challenge wherein both members of the team needed to work together to haul three hundred pounds of timber across the shipyard and onto a scale. Meeting the weight requirement would allow them to get their next clue.
3. In Leg 9, teams needed to ask a Bahraini shop for the 'King of Halwa'. What were they given in return?

Answer: Sweets

Finishing the shipyard task, teams needed to drive further into Muharraq to find the Hussein Mohammad Showaiter Sweets shop. If teams asked for the 'King of Halwa', then the shopkeeper would present them with a local jelly sweet traditionally made in Bahrain. After sampling the food, they could get their clue and drive onward to Delmon Pottery Industry in A'ali.

Here, teams received a list of ten items, all of which they could find hidden in clay pots on the premises. Bringing the items, one by one, for approval, they needed to get all ten to get their next clue, hidden inside another pot.
4. Teams milked what animal when they visited Bahrain in Leg 9?

Answer: Camel

The Bahrain Endurance Village in the town of Zallaq was the penultimate stop for teams in the ninth leg as they were required to visit it and finish one last task. The ask was straightforward: milk a camel. Teams had to fill a glass up the old fashioned way, milking camels into a measuring cup and to the approval of local farmers. Their next clue would be for the Pit Stop.
5. Which team was eliminated in Manama, Bahrain at the end of Leg 9?

Answer: Lucas and Brittany

To end off Leg 9, teams drove themselves to the Tree of Life, a 400-year-old tree in the desert of Sakhir. Alex and Conor arrived there first, winning their third leg of the race and winning $7,500 USD each. The elimination was a little bit more complicated since Lucas and Brittany, troubled by a missing passport during their connection in Dubai, were forced to obtain a temporary replacement passport from the U.S. Embassy.

By the time the pair reached the first task in Bahrain, Phil was already waiting to eliminate them from the race in fifth place.
6. Teams travelled to what Thai city for the tenth leg of the race?

Answer: Chiang Mai

Leaving the Tree of Life, teams needed to head to the airport in Manama and fly three thousand miles due east to Southeast Asia and the Northern Thai city of Chiang Mai. Upon arriving, teams could hop into a local vehicle known as a songthaew, which they would use for the duration of the leg, and make their way to the gardens of the Royal Park Rajapruek.

They would be able to find a floral garland amongst the elephant statues on the grounds, and if they handed that off to one of the correct women near the Royal Pavilion, they would be given their next clue.
7. In the 'Size It' Detour in Leg 10, teams had to take measurements of which of these in Thailand?

Answer: Elephants

The elephant statues turned out to be a bit of foreshadowing. Finding them, teams found their Detour clue and had to choose between the two. The first one, completed by Kristi and Jen and Henry and Evan, involved elephants. For 'Size It', teams had to visit the Patara Elephant Sanctuary and help locals perform a health check on their elephants using traditional methods of obtaining their heights and weights. If teams got the right numbers, they'd take a ride on their elephant, take a ride through the jungle, feed their new friends, and be handed their next clue.
8. In the 'Seize It' Detour task, completed by two teams in Leg 10, teams had to grab twenty of which of these in a Thai rice paddy?

Answer: Frogs

In the 'Seize It' Detour task, Alex and Conor and Cody and Jessica raced off to the Baan Kaew Rice Field. There, getting knee-deep in the watery rice paddies, they had to grab twenty bullfrogs and put them into a bin to trade for their next clue. Following this, teams could hop back into their songthaew, no pun intended, and head back into Chiang Mai proper to hunt down their next clue.
9. While team mates indulged in local Thai delicacies in the Leg 10 Road Block, their partners were covered with which of these?

Answer: Scorpions

When teams finished their Detour they were required to make their way to the Original Khum Khantoke Restaurant in Chiang Mai for the Road Block. For this task, one team member needed to sate their hunger by indulging in some local delicacies. If they could stomach three cooked scorpions and one bullfrog then they could collect their next clue.

While the selected team members choked down the odd 'treat', their partners needed to wait while live scorpions climbed all over them. Alex, Cody, Jen, and Evan completed this task.
10. Which team arrived at the tenth Pit Stop of the race, in Thailand, in last place?

Answer: Henry and Evan

Finishing their unexpected meals, teams needed to check into the tenth Pit Stop at Wat Chedi Luang in the middle of Chiang Mai's Old City. It was here that Alex and Conor took their second win in a row and their fourth of the race, this time winning themselves a trip for two to the island of Curacao courtesy of Travelocity.

Henry and Evan were last to arrive this leg after having fallen behind during the Detour but, fortunately, they were spared by one last non-elimination leg. They would, however, face a Speed Bump in Leg 11.
