Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Geitárgljúfur, in Húsafell, was the first destination teams visited in the race. It was in what country?

Answer: Iceland

To start this thirtieth season of the race, teams made their way from New York City's Washington Square Park to the northern island nation of Iceland to complete several tasks in the beautiful, verdant landscape around Reykjavik. After riding a zipline across the canyons of Geitárgljúfur, team members went off-roading and checked in at the first Pit Stop for a photo finish between the last-place teams. Dessie and Kayla found themselves last to arrive by a single step and were eliminated.
2. In Antwerp's Grote Markt, teams encountered which of these for the first time in any "Amazing Race" season?

Answer: Head-to-Head

Although the Head-to-Head had been used in "The Amazing Race Canada" as the Face Off and in Israel's "HaMerotz LaMillion" as the Double Battle, it appeared for the first time in the original franchise in Antwerp, showing at the end of the leg. In this case, the challenge was a team vs. team obstacle course where one member of each pair, dressed as a pack of french fries, needed to push a dolly of potato sacks through the market square. If they won, they could check into the next Pit Stop; the last team left without a win would be eliminated altogether.
3. The rooftops of Tangier, Morocco were the backdrop for which of these tasks in Leg 3?

Answer: Road Block

Teams trekked through Tangier, Morocco in Leg 3, starting at the fish port and then getting lost throughout the complicated markets for the Road Block and Detour. The Road Block sent team members to the rooftops for obstacle courses and non-conventional ziplines and proved to be an exhausting series of challenges for the selected participants.

This leg of the race ended up being a non-elimination leg, meaning nine teams went into Morocco and the same nine would continue back to Europe in Leg 4.
4. In Leg 5, teams encountered which of these, waiting for them inside Arles Amphitheatre?

Answer: Bulls

Legs 4 and 5 took teams through the south of France, first to the French Riviera and second to Provence. In Leg 5, at the Arles Amphitheatre, most remaining teams searched through more than a hundred wooden bulls for ribbons they could trade for their next clue.

It was just one task on the way to the race's fifth Pit Stop where, in a surprise turn, Lucas and Brittany placed first and the former got down on one knee to propose to his partner.
5. In front of the Rudolfinum, teams found a Double U-Turn of these waiting for them as well as which of these?

Answer: Blind Detour

For the first time since the twenty-sixth season of the race, teams encountered a 'Blind Detour', which implied that they would be given titles of their tasks but wouldn't know the details until they arrived at their challenges. This meant that some teams chose 'This' (a beer-themed, physical/navigation challenge) and some teams chose 'That' (a memory challenge based on astronomy lectures at Charles University). Additionally, teams found a Double U-Turn waiting for them at the Rudolfinum and there, Cody and Jessica U-Turned Trevor and Chris, ultimately leading to their elimination.
6. The Eastgate Mall was the site of a delivery Detour task that was completed by how many different teams of the six remaining in Leg 8?

Answer: Three

Teams raced through Zimbabwe in Legs 7 and 8, both of which were run back-to-back without stopping. In Leg 8, teams faced a Double U-Turn that sent two teams to complete both Detour options. It meant that both Cody and Jessica and Henry and Evan had to, mandatorily, visit the Eastgate Mall to complete one side of the Detour (involving delivering mail). Eric and Daniel also, voluntarily, took this task. All other teams ended up completing a different delivery Detour task in Magaba Market.
7. Which team never made it to the Pit Stop at the Tree of Life in Bahrain (at the end of Leg 9)?

Answer: Lucas and Brittany

Leg 9 took teams all around the Kingdom of Bahrain but the leg almost seemed to be done before it even started for Lucas and Brittany who, during one of their airport connections, lost Lucas' passport. As a result, the duo spent a good deal of time getting a temporary passport from the U.S. Embassy in Dubai, UAE before rejoining the race course.

By the time they reached the Dhow Shipyard for their first task in Muharraq, all other teams had checked in at the Tree of Life.
8. During the tenth leg of the race, some teams measured elephants in what Asian nation?

Answer: Thailand

Teams continued eastbound in Leg 10, flying themselves from Manama, Bahrain to the city of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. The leg has a significant animal theme since teams had to make a choice of spending their Detour task either measuring elephants or catching bullfrogs. Even the Road Block involved animals-- teams had to eat cooked scorpions and bullfrogs.

At the end of the leg, teams discovered they'd arrived at the final non-elimination Pit Stop of the race, and four pairs raced on.
9. The busy, nighttime streets of Lan Kwai Fong awaited teams in Leg 11 when they visited what city?

Answer: Hong Kong

The final four teams arrived in Hong Kong in the early evening and they were sent throughout the city on a series of difficult tasks. Lan Kwai Fong, at the very end of the leg, proved to be quite the unique spot since it forced all competitors not only to use their powers of perception, but their memories of the race to open a locked briefcase containing the location of their final Pit Stop.

It proved to be too difficult for Alex and Conor to puzzle out and the pair were eliminated by Phil before they could make it to the mat.
10. Teams visited the 'Say Hey Kid' and McCovey Cove as they raced in what final destination city in Leg 12?

Answer: San Francisco

The final leg of the race took the last three teams from Hong Kong to San Francisco for a rare nighttime ending. During this visit they visited AT&T Park for a baseball-themed challenge, climbed into the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, made fortune cookies, and completed one last challenge onboard the USS Hornet, the site of the race's finish line. Cody and Jessica managed to complete the final task the fastest, winning the race and the million dollar prize.
