Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of Leg 13, teams returned to which city previously visited in Leg 4?

Answer: Townsville

Opening their clues in the order at which they arrived at the Lincoln National Park Pit Stop in Leg 12, teams headed from their starting point at the Port Lincoln Hotel to the airport where they needed to take a flight to Far North Queensland and the City of Townsville, previously visited by six of the eight remaining teams during the fourth leg of the race. Arriving there, teams had to hop into an Apollo campervan and spend the night at the BIG4 Beachfront Holiday Park, a campsite on Rowes Bay, where they could snag an early morning departure time to recommence the race the next day.
2. How many racers were locked into completing the Leg 13 face-first abseiling Road Block?

Answer: Six

Teams started their mystery day in Townsville on an early note, opening their first clue, a Road Block, as early as 5am. While in Leg 4, team members had to face off against a nighttime abseil down Castle Hill, this Road Block forced the teammates who did not do this the first time to abseil face-first, collecting the photo they left on the 'Brains' and 'Brawns' boards the first time around. Because MJ and Chelsea and Stan and Wayne were Stowaways, they had no such restrictions and could choose from either board (Chelsea took Brawns so Wayne had to take Brains).

This meant that the task was done by Ashleigh, Anurag, Brendon, Chris, Chelsea, Jake, Holly, and Wayne.
3. Which of these choices ended up being made by the most teams during the 'Brains'/'Brawns' Detour in Leg 13?

Answer: 'Brawns'

Once teams claimed their 'Brains' and 'Brawns' photos from Castle Hill, they had to make use of them, making good on their early-game choices for a Detour task. First, teams needed to join the Fourth Regiment of the Royal Australian Artillery at Jezzine Barracks.

There, they would take a Chinook helicopter ride to Lavarack Barracks and Australia's largest army base and be forced to complete a Detour based on their 'Brains' or 'Brawns' selection (everyone went 'Brawns' except for Holly and Dolor and Stan and Wayne while Chris and Aleisha switched Detours midway through).

In 'Brains', teams simulated an artillery bombardment. Using information and calculations they had to fire at a target. If they hit within 10mm of the required spot, they would get their next clue.

In 'Brawns', teams completed a physically-demanding obstacle course alongside two instructors.
4. Teams faced a second Detour challenge in Leg 13 though all racers took the same option, forcing them to eat which of these?

Answer: Spaghetti

After finishing with their 'Brains' and 'Brawns' Detour, teams were shocked to find a second Detour choice awaiting them in Leg 13. This one involved food and in both cases, teams had to drive themselves north out of Townsville. In 'Lady and the Tramp', teams visited the Casa Pasta Restaurant in Ingham where team members needed to work together to slurp up a five meter long string of spaghetti a la 'Lady and the Tramp' without breaking the strand while in 'Eat Like a Champ', teams instead drove to Cassady's Boat Ramp in Forrest Beach to eat three whole cone snail shells each. All the teams took the former task.
5. Upon arriving at the race's thirteenth Pit Stop, which team was last to check in?

Answer: Stan and Wayne

After a quick meal, teams needed to make their way to Beau and the next Pit Stop of the race at Mungalla Cattle Station in Forrest Beach. Taking their camper van onto the ranch there, Ashleigh and Amanda were able to win against Brendon and Jackson in a footrace, taking their second win a row and claiming the prize-- a vacation to the Hilton Fiji Resort and Spa.

In a misunderstanding, MJ and Chelsea arrived at the Pit Stop earlier than expected, failing to find the second Detour as they trailed another team.

It meant that they needed to head back out to finish the task. They managed, barely, to overtake fellow Stowaway team Stan and Wayne to stay in the race while the bodybuilders' race nearly came to an end. Fortunately, this was a pre-determined non-elimination leg and they were spared.
6. Teams started Leg 14 in the Sunshine Coast with which of these?

Answer: Intersection

Between Legs 13 and 14, the remaining eight teams were flown from Townsville in Far North Queensland to the Sunshine Coast with the aim to make their way to the Glass House Mountains. Teams thus opened their first clue of the leg as they departed from the Sunshine Coast Airport in the order upon which they arrived at the previous Pit Stop. Teams very quickly learned that they would be starting the race Intersected. Locating the Intersection board, they would be able to proceed with their temporary teammates going forward. Ashleigh and Amanda paired with Brendon and Jackson, Jaskirat and Anurag went with Skye-Blue and Jake, Chris and Aleisha joined Holly and Dolor, and both Stowaway teams, MJ and Chelsea and Stan and Wayne, had to partner up.
7. Teams completing the search and rescue task in Leg 14 had to find which of these?

Answer: The highest point

For their first intersected task of the leg, teams needed to work with the Land Rover LiteFlight Special Mission Helicopter team to find and recover their stranded teammates in the Glass House Mountains. The two stranded teammates had to head to the highest point in the area to find a phone waiting for them, and with that phone they would need to communicate their surroundings to their teammate who, using a topographical map and tools at their disposal, needed to fly to the destination-- Wild Horse Mountain-- with a helicopter and reunite.
8. During their Road Block in Leg 14, teams visited a farm to harvest which of these crops grown near the Sunshine Coast?

Answer: Ginger

After their search and rescue adventures, teams were released from their Intersection and posed with the Road Block question 'Who's a ginger ninja?' and for this task, the teams had to travel to the town of Eumundi to find the Templeton Ginger Farm. There, the selected team member needed to dig up a five meter plot of ginger on the farm and then pick, sort, and clean the crop to the farmer's satisfaction. Amanda, Brendon, Jaskirat, Skye-Blue, Aleisha, Dolor, MJ, and Wayne completed this task.
9. Which team completed the 'Candy' Detour in Leg 14?

Answer: MJ and Chelsea

The final major to-do found in Leg 14 was the Detour, and this one sent teams to one of two tasks involving either 'Cuckoo' or 'Candy', both taking place in the town of Montville. In 'Cuckoo', teams drove to a local clock shop to search amongst hundreds of cuckoo clocks for one containing a small German flag in its workings.

In 'Candy', teams visited Monty's of Montville to stretch, roll, and hand-shape four perfect lollipops (two each). Initially, only MJ and Chelsea and Stan and Wayne aimed to complete 'Candy'; Chris and Aleisha switched to the task as well. All other teams finished 'Cuckoo'. Though Stan and Wayne initially planned to complete 'Candy', they were far enough behind that both options closed for the evening, and they were forced to take a penalty at the Pit Stop.
10. Which team won the First Class Pass, checking in first at the Leg 14 Pit Stop in the Glass House Mountains?

Answer: Brendon and Jackson

Completing the Detour, teams received their final clue of the leg in their cars courtesy of Telstra. A message from home, the teams' family members had the pleasure of directing the teams to the Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World in Wootha. There, in the midst of a hailstorm, Brendon and Jackson landed on the mat before all the other teams, reclaiming the top spot.

They won the First Class Pass this time around and had the opportunity to give the Salvage Pass and the Sabotage Pass to the last two teams.

They rewarded Stan and Wayne with the Salvage Pass despite the penalties and a last place arrival while Chris and Aleisha were saddled with another Sabotage Pass.
