Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To begin Leg 21, teams needed to escape Old Dubbo Gaol, which they could do by walking out the front door.

Answer: False

Leg 21 sent the teams off to the Outback city of Dubbo, New South Wales, and after a short flight from Sydney to this destination, they had to proceed to the Old Dubbo Gaol to escape a pitch black prison cell and climb over the prison wall via a rope ladder. If they could do so without getting caught out by the prison guards (signified by a blown whistle), they could collect their next clue. Teams left the Dubbo Airport in the order they arrived at the race's twentieth Pit Stop in the previous leg.
2. The Leg 21 Road Block (found outside of Dubbo, NSW) required that teams operate which of these machines?

Answer: Tractor

After their breakout, teams were sent forty kilometres out of Dubbo to the rural fields of Kickabil with a Road Block task in hand. For this, teams needed to choose one member with the 'X-Tractor'. The selected team members (Amanda, Chris, Jackson, and Anurag) needed to drive a tractor alongside a combine harvester to collect wheat.

They then needed to use their harvest to properly fill an allotted amount of silo bags. If they could perform this task without losing any of their crop, they could receive their next clue.
3. Teams performed which song during their visit to the Prince of Wales Opera House in Leg 21?

Answer: "Home! Sweet Home!"

Completion of the Road Block led the teams onward to the town of Gulgong to find the Prince of Wales Opera House, Australia's oldest opera house, where they would need to learn the lyrics of the 1823 Australian song "Home! Sweet Home!". Paying homage to Dame Nellie Melba, who performed on the site, teams had to learn a verse each and then perform the chorus as a duet, live onstage, before they could continue racing. Of course, they needed to perform in costume. Why not?
4. The Detour found in Tooraweenah in Leg 21 was followed by a U-Turn board. Which team was mandatorily required to use the board?

Answer: Brendon and Jackson

After the opera house task, teams were sent to the Emu Logic emu farm in Tooraweenah where they could choose between either 'Crack' or 'Corral'. Both tasks were simple in concept. 'Crack' forced teams to eat four raw eggs each (drawn from quail, duck, chicken, and emu) while 'Corral' had teams heading into the pens to herd ten emus into a separate enclosure.

The task was followed by a U-Turn which, as per the rules of this race, required that the leading team U-Turn another. Because of this, Brendon and Jackson forced Chris and Aleisha to complete 'Crack'.

Originally, only Jaskirat and Anurag went for that task.
5. Which team was last to check in at the twenty-first Pit Stop (found on an emu farm)?

Answer: Chris and Aleisha

Remaining at Emu logic, teams passed through the U-Turn situated at a fire truck on the grounds and then raced onward on foot to the twenty-first Pit Stop in the fields. Brendon and Jackson retook the first place position, this time landing on the mat to win a video call courtesy of Telstra, allowing them to reach their family. Additionally, Telstra provided them with Connection Packs worth $5,000 each.

The U-Turn ultimately did Chris and Aleisha in. Though they overtook the girls at the Detour, the egg challenge took enough time to hold them back (more than an hour). Fortunately for them, this was a non-elimination leg and they were able to continue without penalty.
6. In Broken Hill in Leg 22, teams were told to find a big version of which of these?

Answer: High-heeled shoe

Teams awakened in Dubbo at the start of Leg 22. For this one, teams opened their clues in the middle of the city and were told to get to Broken Hill, deeper into the Outback, where they could make their way to the Palace Hotel to find the Big Heel. All four teams flew from Dubbo's city airport and headed due west eight hundred kilometers by plane to their destination.

The Big Heel was, sure enough, a large high-heeled shoe, and it was the first step in a unique sprint around the mining town.
7. Which of these did teams not collect for their chemical reaction in Broken Hill?

Answer: Table salt

Teams hopped around Broken Hill upon their arrival. At the start of their relay, they had to travel on foot to the intersection of Sulphide and Blende. There, after picking up safety gear, teams continued to the intersection of Cobalt and Chloride to grab potassium iodide. With this in-hand, teams went to Cobalt and Sulphide Street for hydrogen peroxide.

The penultimate place to visit was Cobalt and Bromide, where teams picked up coloured detergent. All of these needed to go to the Big Ant, where teams could perform a chemical reaction for their next clue.
8. While team members completed the Road Block at Junction Mine (in Leg 22), where was the non-participating teammate?

Answer: On the end of a seesaw

Completing their mad science, teams were given a Road Block clue which asked 'Who's watching their weight?'. For this task, teams headed to the Junction Mine on the outskirts of town. There, with their partner balanced on the other end of a see-saw, the selected team member needed to use a shovel to fill a bucket on the opposite side with enough rubble to balance the beam perfectly.

When the see-saw was level they could obtain their next clue. Anurag, Amanda, Brendon, and Chris completed this task.
9. Which of these did teams need to count at the John Dynon Art Gallery in Leg 22?

Answer: Bicycles

After finishing the Road Block, teams took vehicles to the small town of Silverton for the remainder of the leg, driving twenty kilometres deeper into the Outback to find the John Dynon Art Gallery. There, teams had to count the number of wheels on all of the gallery's pushbikes and tricycles, a total of one hundred and seven, to get their next clue from John Dynon himself.

The completion of this task sent teams on foot to the Silverton Hotel where teams needed to scull two shoeys from a drag queen's boot.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 22, ending their run in fourth place?

Answer: Chris and Aleisha

After teams took a couple of drinks at the Silverton Hotel they were handed their last clue for the leg sending them on foot to the twenty-second Pit Stop inside the Mad Max Museum in Silverton. Ashleigh and Amanda, who led the leg going into the Road Block and held the lead throughout (and supported their alliance members), landed on the mat in first to win a trip for two to the Cairns Shangri-La Hotel courtesy of 10 Travlr.

Their support for their alliance led to Chris and Aleisha's elimination; they checked on the mat in last, breaking a franchise record for twenty-two consecutive legs raced.
