Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leg 5 took place on what Queensland island destination?

Answer: Magnetic Island

Between Legs 4 and 5, teams were sent to Magnetic Island, leaving Palm Island and the site of their fourth Pit Stop behind and starting at the ferry terminal at Nelly Bay by departing in the order the completed the last leg. They needed to make their way to the Isle Hire Car Rentals lot nearby, grab one of the marked cars, and collect their first clue.

The first clue turned out to be a Road Block, and with that, teams drove off to Horseshoe Bay to locate Beau, waiting there to start their next group task.
2. In the pontoon Road Block in Leg 5, which participant was the first to drop?

Answer: Shane

The first Road Block in Leg 5 asked teams 'Who likes hanging out?', and it led to one member of each team needing to use their strength and stamina to hang under a pole suspended out over the water on a pontoon in Horseshoe Bay. All teams participated in this task at the same time, so the racers who were able to hold on the longest would secure their team's earlier departure time the next morning when they left their overnight stay at Bungalow Bay Koala Village. Team members who participated in this task included Brendon, Shane, Ashleigh, Sefa, Jake, Rani, Chris, Jaskirat, Dwes, Jordan, and Holly. Shane dropped out first after two and a half minutes, dropping him and Deb to last place after leading for two legs. Jordan lasted more than a half hour, placing first.
3. Which team was unable to continue the race due to an injury sustained in Leg 5?

Answer: Shane and Deb

Teams set up camp after their Road Block out on the waters of Horseshoe Bay and departed in five minute intervals the following morning (starting with Jordan and Violeta), but before everyone headed out, Shane, who competed the previous day in the Road Block, found that his sore knee was inflamed to the point of being too painful to walk on. Medical was called into diagnose, the ambulance was brought in, and Shane decided that he was unable to continue on with the race.

As they departed, the teams raced to Scallywags Cafe in Nelly Bay where they had to eat twenty dry Weet-Bix to get their next clue. No water or milk, of course.
4. How many targets did team members need to light on fire with their mouths during Leg 5's second Road Block task?

Answer: Three

After their dry meal, teams raced to Picnic Bay for the second Road Block of the leg, and in such instances, normally the teammate who did not complete the first would be required to complete the second. There was no such rule in this season, which meant that Amanda, Jessica, Skye-Blue, Rani, Chris, Jackson, Anurag, Katherine, Violeta, and Holly went into this task. For this one, teams encountered local fire-breathers and needed to learn how to breathe fire.

They had three attempts to light three targets or, otherwise, they would need to go to the back of the line and try again. Violeta, unfortunately, wasn't able to complete the challenge.
5. Which team was first to arrive at the Pit Stop at the end of the Picnic Bay Jetty (in Leg 5)?

Answer: Ashleigh and Amanda

Completing the fire-breathing Road Block, teams opened their clue to find that they could race on foot to their fifth Pit Stop waiting for them at the end of the jetty on Picnic Bay. Ashleigh and Amanda excelled during this leg and beat Jaskirat and Anurag to the mat to win their first prize-- the First Class Pass, which allowed them to skip all of Leg 6 and reenter the race in Leg 7.

This also meant that they would hand out the Salvage Pass and the Sabotage Pass. They gave the Salvage to Jobelle and Rani and the Sabotage to Jordan and Violeta who came in the final two positions.
6. Leg 6 visited which of these major Australian natural features?

Answer: The Great Barrier Reef

Leaving Magnetic Island in Leg 6, teams opened their clues at the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal where they were informed that they would be spending time at the Great Barrier Reef. This proved to be a complicated trip as teams needed to take the ferry from Nelly Bay to Townsville, then a flight from Townsville to Cairns before getting tickets on one of two boats to Fitzroy Island, where they would spend most of the remainder of the leg. Five teams took the first boat while four teams at the back of the pack took the second ferry an hour and a half later.
7. The recipients of the Sabotage Pass were forced to wear which accessory during the entirety of Leg 6?

Answer: Snorkel

For placing in last in Leg 5, Jordan and Violeta were given the Sabotage Pass by front-runners Ashleigh and Amanda, and because of this they were penalized with the task of wearing a mask and snorkel (each) for most of the sixth leg. They were only allowed to take these off for one of the Detour choices

Jobelle and Rani, meanwhile, were given the Salvage Pass, granting them an advantage in Leg 6. Upon reaching the boat in Cairns, they were provided with an island guide for the remainder of the leg.
8. Which of these was the only team to complete the 'Restoration' Detour task in Leg 6?

Answer: Sefa and Jessica

Reaching Fitzroy Island, teams were given a Detour clue, both of which regarded conservation efforts at the Great Barrier Reef. In 'Restoration', teams were given Scuba-Doos, and in these they had to descend into the waters to join the Reef Restoration Foundation by counting baby coral on specially-designed underwater trees (totalling 109). If they got the number right, they would get their next clue.

In 'Rehabilitation', teams instead went to the Cairns Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center to feed and clean a sea turtle and its habitat.

Despite 'Rehabilitation' having a maximum capacity, only Sefa and Jessica went for 'Restoration' and they completed it faster than the others.
9. How many bottles did teams collect and recycle before heading to the Pit Stop in Leg 6?

Answer: Five

Finishing their Detour tasks, teams needed to take a reef sprinter and race to Green Island, further out at sea. Signing up for one of two boat trips, they could find their next clue waiting at the jetty there. This final task of the leg required that they help the ocean environment by using a treasure map and collecting five bottles hidden in different spots on and around the island.

Inside each would be a message containing a word which would advise them to 'Take Bottles To Recycling Plant'. Once the bottles were recycled they could trade them to get their next clue.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 6?

Answer: Jobelle and Rani

After delivering their bottles, teams had to travel on foot to Sandy Crack Beach on Green Island to find Beau at the race's sixth Pit Stop. Skye-Blue and Jake won in a last-minute footrace against Sefa and Jessica taking their first win of the race and claiming a holiday to Disneyland in California.

Although Jobelle and Rani had an island guide as part of their Salvage, they both took a penalty for being unable to complete the scavenger hunt and they showed up in last place to the mat. It meant that the father and daughter were eliminated from the race.
