Negan makes his dramatic first appearance during the final episode of season 6, "Last Day on Earth," when he threatens to kill a member of Rick's group. He has already had his followers line them up on their knees in a row, and he proceeds to play "eenie meenie miny moe" with his baseball bat to decide which one to kill.

The audience was left hanging as to the identity of Negan's chosen victim until "The Walking Dead" returned for season 7.

Answer: Lucille

Negan named his bat after his late wife Lucille, who was suffering from cancer at the onset of the apocalypse. Negan had cheated on her, but he felt guilty. He later said that she had never been more beautiful than when she was undergoing chemotherapy. When she died and turned into a walker, he could not bring himself to kill her, and he regarded that as his one weakness.

At some point after the apocalypse, Negan began leading a group of survivors he called "the Saviors." He established their headquarters in an abandoned factory called "The Sanctuary" and created a system by which people worked for points in exchange for food.

He supplied his community primarily by extorting other communities that actually produced, and the Saviors maintained several satellite outposts.

Answer: Carol

Because her mother needed medication and was unable to work, Amber agreed to be one of Negan's wives to provide for herself and her mother. She continued to have feelings for her boyfriend Mark, however, and because she "cheats" on Negan with her boyfriend, Negan takes a hot iron to Mark's face.

Sherry, who used to be married to Dwight, agreed to become one of Negan's wives to spare Dwight from being punished for an escape attempt. She eventually escapes from the Sanctuary and goes off on her own.

Frankie volunteered to become one of Negan's wives in order to avoid doing dangerous work. After the War with the Saviors, she joins Alexandria and adopts a daughter.

One other wife of Negan's is named in the show - Tanya.

Answer: Gives him a tour of the place

When the Saviors come to collect from the Hilltop, Carl sneaks onboard a truck heading to the Sanctuary. He jumps out with a plan to shoot Negan, but he's prevented. After Carl is apprehended, Negan takes him on a tour of the Sanctuary, even showing him his harem, and making Carl show him his empty eye socket. Negan develops a fondness for Carl over the course of the conflict with Rick, and Carl writes a letter pleading with Negan to make peace before he dies.

Answer: Glenn

Negan beats Glenn to death with Lucille, but he never imprisons him in the Sanctuary. After beating Glenn to death, he captures Daryl, keeps him imprisoned, and has Dwight torture him to try to make him loyal to Negan. Daryl never breaks and eventually escapes.

Sasha is captured when she tries to break into the Sanctuary to kill Negan. She is imprisoned in a cell for a time, but eventually commits suicide to avoid being used by Negan to get at her friends.

Negan has Dr. Harlan Carson abducted from the Hilltop when the Saviors find themselves in need of a doctor. Dr. Carson later escapes with Father Gabriel but ends up dying.

Answer: Simon

Simon was the head of the Savior's Satellite Outpost and was often seen assisting Negan or representing him, such as when he went to Hilltop to extort goods from them. The community of Oceanside, before it was in hiding in Oceanside, had every one of its men, and some of its older boys, killed by Simon for refusing to pay up.

The slaughter was not authorized by Negan, and nor was Simon's decision to kill all of the Scavengers. (Jadis alone escaped.)

Answer: Shooting him with a rocket launcher

When Negan finds out Simon slaughtered all of the Scavengers, he confronts him before the rest of the Saviors and strangles him to death. When he believes Dr. Emmett Carson helped Daryl to escape, he shoves him into a furnace. When Spencer connives to ingratiate himself with Negan to one-up Rick, Negan disembowels him with a knife.

Answer: Eugene

Negan abducts Eugene from Alexandria and brings him to the Sanctuary because he sees he can make bullets. Eugene eventually pledges his loyalty with these words, continuing, "I was Negan even before I met you. I just needed to meet you properly to know. I'm Negan." But Eugene later betrays Negan by misloading the ammunition so as to cause it to backfire.

Answer: Denise

Denise is killed by Dwight, who shoots her through the eye with Daryl's crossbow. Negan beats Glenn and Abraham to death with his baseball bat. He slits Alpha's throat with a knife and gives her a kiss.

Answer: Judith

Negan is imprisoned at Alexandria after the war with the Saviors. Judith often talks to him by his prison window, and he grows fond of her. In season 9, episode 16, "The Storm," he is let out of his cell to be allowed to warm by the fire during a major cold winter storm. Judith goes missing during the blizzard, after running after Daryl's dog, and Negan finds and rescues her.

This act earns him some grudging acceptance, and he is allowed to take on a role in the community under supervision.

In Season 9, episode 8, Father Gabriel is furious that he had to "babysit" Negan while Rosita was injured at the Hilltop. He slams the cell door shut and huffs off, but he forgets to lock it. Negan leaves through the open door and escapes. Judith catches him sneaking off and offers him a compass.

After seeing the abandoned Sanctuary, he decides there's nothing left for him out there, and he voluntarily returns to his cell. Later, Carol lets him out because she wants him to infiltrate the Whisperers and kill Alpha.

Answer: Beta

Negan says this to Beta after joining the Whisperers. The two are rivals for Alpha's approval, and Beta is suspicious of Negan. Beta is a towering figure that neither Daryl nor Judith managed to kill, though he appeared momentarily dead twice.

Negan infiltrates the Whisperers as part of a plan to kill Alpha, but he bides his time, becoming an apparent part of the group. Alpha makes a face mask for him from a walker skin, and she bonds with him over time. Negan tells her that her belief that we are all animals is wrong, "And you know it."

Answer: "Looking for a little vacation. Best dope I ever had was in a mattress."

While Negan certainly has a foul mouth, he also often spews euphemistic juvenile-sounding phrases. When he first appears on the scene, stepping out of an RV to Rick's group lined up on their knees, he tells them, "It's gonna be pee-pee pants city here real soon."

When Negan waltzes into Alexandria to collect their protection payment, he exclaims, "Hot diggety dog! This place is magnificent!"

When one of the Saviors finds a hidden camcorder while going through Alexandria's possessions, Negan says, "I've got my fingers crossed for a little freaky deaky."

"Looking for a little vacation. Best dope I ever had was in a mattress," is something Merle says when he's tearing apart a mattress in the Atlanta prison.
