Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rick used to be a sheriff's deputy. In which county?

Answer: King County, Georgia

Shane Walsh and Rick Grimes are both deputies in King County, Georgia. The county does not exist in real-life Georgia, and the name is a nod to prolific horror writer Stephen King. In the show, the county seems to be located southwest of Atlanta, near the Alabama state line.
2. Which of the following was not a major influence on Rick Grimes as child?

Answer: His older brother, who died in the Vietnam War

In "Better Angles," Rick mentions his father, whom he calls "profound," and says the man instilled in him a strong moral code. He speaks of his grandfather in "Them." In "The Stone in the Road," he talks about his mother's story, which inspired him to press on in the face of adversity. He never mentions an older brother.
3. When Rick awakes in the hospital room in the premiere episode of the "Walking Dead," there are several signs that time has passed. Which is NOT one of the them?

Answer: The calendar on the wall has changed to a different year.

Rick Grimes made his first appearance in season 1, episode 1, "Days Gone By." Written and directed by Frank Darabont, this episode had 5.35 million viewers. When he awakens in the hospital, the flowers are wilted and the clock and machines have stopped. Rick is dehydrated, and after stumbling to the bathroom to drink water, he notices he's started growing a beard.
4. How does Rick manage to find his missing family after the apocalypse starts?

Answer: He finds them by chance when Glenn rescues him and takes him to his camp.

While Morgan tells Rick there's supposed to be a safe zone in Atlanta, Rick does not find his family there. Instead, he finds himself trapped in a tank surrounded by walkers. Glenn helps him to escape, and then he takes Rick out of the city back to his own camp near the quarry, where, fortuitously, Rick's wife Lori and son Carl happen to be living.
5. Why does Rick want to retrieve his walkie talkie from the walker-infested streets of Atlanta?

Answer: To warn Morgan away from the city

Lori doesn't want Rick to return to the city to retrieve Merle, whom he has handcuffed to a pipe after a violent outburst. Shane doesn't want him to return either, suggesting they need bodies to defend the camp in the event of walkers. Rick argues that they need to go back to retrieve that bag of guns anyway.

There are two reasons for this - one, they need guns, and two, it has his walkie talkie, which he needs to warn Morgan away from the city. As it turns out, the camp is indeed attacked by walkers while Rick is away, and Amy and Ed die and Jim is bit and later dies.
6. In season 1, episode 6, Dr. Jenner whispers into Rick's ear that everyone has the disease and will turn when they die, regardless of whether or not they are infected by a walker bite. When does Rick tell the group this truth?

Answer: After they abandon the Greene family farm

Rick keeps the secret until the end of season 2. He reveals it in season 2, episode 13, "Beside the Dying Fire." After walkers overrun the Greene family farm and it catches on fire, the group flees and meets up again on the highway. They discuss where to go from here, and Daryl points out that Randall Culver turned despite the fact that he wasn't bit (Shane had killed him). That's when Rick reveals what Jenner told him.

The group is angry that he kept the secret for so long. They begin to mistrust his leadership, and as they sit by the campfire that night, they question it. Rick tells them, "If you're staying, this isn't a democracy anymore."
7. What job is Rick given to do when the group arrives at the Alexandria Safe Zone?

Answer: Constable

Michonne is also appointed to serve as a constable. Rick even wears a uniform in the role. In his capacity as constable, he must deal with the issue of Pete Anderson, an abusive husband.
8. Does Rick know that Judith is not his biological daughter?

Answer: Yes

Rick is the biological father of Carl (with Lori) and of RJ (with Michonne). RJ is born after Rick vanishes. Rick's best friend Shane is the biological father of Judith. Shane had an affair with Lori when Lori assumed Rick was dead. Rick is aware of the fact, though he never confronts Lori about it.

He tells Michonne, "I know Judith isn't mine. I know it. I love her. She's my daughter. But she isn't mine. I had to accept that. I did. So I could keep her alive."
9. With which of these women did Rick Grimes never have a romantic relationship?

Answer: Sasha

Lori was Rick's wife and the mother of his son Carl, but she died during an emergency C-section during a walker attack. Rick briefly had a romantic fling with Jesse Anderson, a resident of Alexandria. However, she was devoured by walkers. With Jesse out of the way, Rick soon moved onto Michonne, with whom he formed a deep relationship and raised Judith until his disappearance.
10. Which of the following "Walking Dead" characters did Rick shoot post-reanimation?

Answer: Sophia

Sasha committed suicide to foil Negan's plans, and her zombified form was put down by Maggie, who stabbed her in the head. Daryl put down his own brother, Merle, once he turned into a walker. Off screen, Michonne stabbed Tyreese in the head to put him out of his misery and so that he would not reanimate. Rick, however, was the one to shoot Sophia's walker corpse when it emerged from Hershel's barn.
11. Rick kills a lot of people in the course of "The Walking Dead." Which of these is NOT one of them?

Answer: The Governor, leader of Woodbury

Rick kills Dave and Tony in a shoot-out that erupts in the bar where he finds Hershel. He kills Shane when it becomes clear that Shane plans to kill him. He kills the prisoner Tomas, slashing him through the head with a machete, after Tomas attempts to kill him by pushing a walker into him.

While Rick fights with the Governor, he doesn't kill him. The Governor is stabbed through the back by Michonne and left for dead. Lilly Chambler later shoots him in the head.
12. Rick's killed so many people, this question requires a second round. Which of the following was NOT someone Rick killed?

Answer: Simon, a Savior and Negan's second in command

In a struggle, Joe, the leader of The Claimers, locks Rick tightly in his grip and mocks him by asking, "What are you going to do now, sport?" Rick bites the jugular vein out of his neck, which causes him to bleed out. Daryl, Michonne, and Rick then kill all the remaining Claimers.

Rick eventually hacks Gareth to death with a red-handed machete, just as he promised he would in an earlier episode when he appeared to be at Gareth's mercy at Terminus.

Pete Anderson is jealous of Rick and confronts him publicly and ends up accidentally killing Reg Monroe in the process. At Deanna Monroe's command, Rick summarily executes Pete.

When Simon challenged Negan's authority as the leader of the Saviors, Negan challenged Simon to a fight and strangled him to death.
13. Even two rounds aren't enough to cover all of Rick's kills. Here we go again for one final round: which of the following was NOT someone Rick killed?

Answer: Dawn Lerner, leader of Grady Memorial Hospital

Bob Lamson was a former sergeant of the Atlanta police and a guard at Grady Memorial Hospital. Rick ran him down with his own police car, and when Bob begged for his life, Rick said, "Can't go back, Bob," and shot him in the head.

While scouting out a Savior outpost, Rick got in a fight with a Savior, whom he impaled on a bracket. Only after killing him did Rick discover the man had a baby daughter in another room. Aaron ended up adopting the girl, who was named Gracie.

Rick captured Primo in "The Same Boat" to trade him for Carol and Maggie, but when they got to the rendezvous point, they learned that Maggie and Carol had already killed their captors. Primo told Rick, "I'm Negan," and Rick executed him.

Daryl Dixon killed Dawn Lerner by shooting her in the head after she shot Beth.

Other kills of Rick included Dan, a Claimer; four Terminus cannibals in addition to Gareth; at least one Wolf; Ethan, a Hilltop food exchanger who stabbed Gregory to send a message at Negan's command; and several Saviors.
14. To what "Walking Dead" character does Rick say, "You're my brother"?

Answer: Daryl

This assurance comes after Rick must fight The Claimers to save Carl and Michonne. He has to resort to ripping out Joe's throat to free himself. Daryl feels guilty for having fallen in with the group, and Rick tells him, "You're my brother." It's an emotional moment for Daryl, who has lost his own biological brother and who has never been a respected part of a community before.

This scene occurs in season 4, episode 16, "A."
15. When Rick is wounded after exploding the bridge in "What Comes After," Anne finds him and radios a helicopter to tell them that she has a strong __, but that he needs help. What does she tell her mysterious contacts she has?

Answer: a B

The leader of the Scavengers, Jadis (who later reverts to her real name of Anne when she joins Rick's group), has some kind of secret deal with a mysterious, distant group, in which she trades people for supplies. These people are labeled as either As or Bs. Heath, an Alexandria supply runner who vanished from the show, and whose RV we later see Jadis/Anne driving, was traded for supplies, according to showrunner Angela Kang.

Anne tells whomever she radios when she finds Rick, "I have a B. Not an A. I never had an A. He's hurt, but he's strong. Can you help him? It's not a trick. Not anymore. I'm trying to save a friend. A friend who saved me. I have something for you now. Do we have a deal?" The helicopter picks him and Anne up, and Rick is hooked up to medical equipment. The helicopter then flies away, and Rick mysteriously exits the show.

Anne originally thought Rick was an A, but later decides he's a B. In contrast, she at first thinks Father Gabriel is a B. She wants Gabriel to help her capture and trade Rick, whom she believes to be an A, so she can get out. When Gabriel refuses to help, she says, "All this time, I thought you were a B."
