OK. So they call it Television For Women (and I'm not one), I still enjoy the old shows and things that show up on "Lifetime" now and then. This quiz will address some of those. Have fun!

Question 1 of 10
1. "Designing Women": One of the more touching episodes came in 1987 when a friend of the Sugarbaker ladies announced he was dying of AIDS. In reflecting on their friendship with him, one of them mentioned a favor Kendall Dobbs (the fellow who was ill) had done for her. What did Mary Jo say he had helped her with? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. "Mad About You": Jamie and Paul eventually became Mr. and Mrs. Buckman, but they had to have met somewhere. Did that initial meeting happen when Ursulla, the ditzy waitress, accidentally seated them at the same table?

Question 3 of 10
3. "The Golden Girls": There was a mix-up (among many) on one episode where Blanche's photo was doubly exposed on a roll of film. One pictured her in bed with Rose's late husband Charlie and, of course, the fur flew. Blanche got superimposed, in compromising positions, with one of these as well. Which one? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. "The Nanny": On the final episode of the show, Fran was now married and leaving New York for California as an official member of the Sheffield family. The mansion was packed but, just before she left it for the last time, what did Fran gather up to take with her before the movers came? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. "Suddenly Susan": Running until the year 2000, this show was supposed to launch Brooke Shields's leading-lady-on-a-sitcom status. It did that but, as often happens, one of the supporting players became a huge popular success, too. He was David Strickland, playing the eccentric young Todd Stites. The show was set in San Francisco and had much opportunity to explore the colorfulness of the citizens there. Todd's parents were certainly that! Tom Smothers played his father but who played Todd's mother? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Lisa Rinna is the hostess of "Merge", where a couple about to be married have to downsize their belongings into one dwelling. It tries to be probing and sensible (in my opinion, it isn't) but as the newlyweds are off honeymooning Rinna and crew go after their new place to 'merge' it into a likeable place for new husband and wife. Lisa Rinna got her start on a U.S. soap opera. Which of these was it? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. "LaVerne And Shirley": A "newbie" to Lifetime, this show was hugely popular in its day. Gary Marshall, the producer, seemed to have had his finger on the pulse of America at the time ("Happy Days", "Mork And Mindy" and "LaVerne And Shirley", among others). Of the 4 main characters in the show, which of them in mid 2004, is in real life married to one of the players that were in the TV mini-series "Stephen King's 'It'"? I'll give you their real name later. Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. "Golden Girls": How many time were the rascally four ladies all dressed up for their weddings (visibly), whether they happened or not? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Which well known actress said that she keeps the Lifetime network "in business"? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. "Designing Women": There was an episode once once where Julia Sugarbaker (always the outspoken one) was told to do something which flipped her over the edge when a photographer was at her shop filming what he thought was a "Women of Atlanta" photo montage. What did he ask Julia to do that completely rattled her nerves? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Cleaning out her garage

Kendall, played by Tony Goldwyn (remember him as the bad guy in the film "Ghost"?), helped Mary Jo clean out her garage shortly before he gave them all the bad news. This is the episode where Mary Jo was nicknamed "The Condom Queen" in her efforts to promote condom usage among teenagers who may or may not have yet become sexually active.
2. "Mad About You": Jamie and Paul eventually became Mr. and Mrs. Buckman, but they had to have met somewhere. Did that initial meeting happen when Ursulla, the ditzy waitress, accidentally seated them at the same table?

Answer: No

They actually met at a newsstand, each going for the same issue of a newspaper. Sparks flew and Paul got the paper in the end but he eventually wooed her and won her. This was a smartly written show, winning Helen Hunt multiple Emmy Awards (but poor Paul Reiser never got one).
Which one?

Answer: The Country Bear Jamboree

Rose's and Blanche's camera work was shaky at best. Blanche never slept with Charlie but the picture looked like it happened. As always it all worked out in the end. But, upon seeing the photo of Blanche with those Country Bears, Rose called her "an animal" anyway. It took Rose a minute or two, as a general rule, to get things figured out right.
4. "The Nanny": On the final episode of the show, Fran was now married and leaving New York for California as an official member of the Sheffield family. The mansion was packed but, just before she left it for the last time, what did Fran gather up to take with her before the movers came?

Answer: Yetta

Fran left once and then came back. It seemed she had forgotten something. It was Yetta, who had somehow gotten lost in the closet. She DID pick up the make-up samples, too, but her grandmother happened soon after.

Answer: Susan Ruttan

Todd's parents were still "hippies" who found themselves in a surprising state of pregnancy. They wanted to deliver underwater and enlisted Todd's assistance (not realizing that he had a dreadful phobia about water). Ruttan played his mother and Kurtz played Susan's mother. Sadly David Strickland hanged himself in 1999, a victim of his own internal demons. That event basically ended the show.

Answer: Days Of Our Lives

Rinna played Billie (the drug addicted and messed up sister of Austin)on "Days". She WAS in "Melrose Place", but that came later. She is now, as of 2004, married to Harry Hamlin (once named one of People magazines "Sexiest Men Alive"). Yawn. My only question is this: on "Merge" wouldn't it be nicer to donate the unused furniture as opposed to using that noisy shredder on it? It's not a great show...but people seem to like it.

Answer: Lenny

Lenny, portrayed by Michael McKean, is married to Annette O'Toole. She was the only girl in that pack of now-grown children taking on that monstrous clown in "It" (and was an ace with a slingshot in it). McKean went on to fine effect in "This Is Spinal Tap", etc. Penny Marshall has, of course, moved forward into an impressive directing career. Cindy Williams and David L. Lander are still busy, but a little more lower profile.
8. "Golden Girls": How many time were the rascally four ladies all dressed up for their weddings (visibly), whether they happened or not?

Answer: 4

Dorothy (Bea Arthur) wins the prize as the most here. Once when she was going to remarry Stan and then when she finally did get married at the end of her run. Blanche was all ready to go on Episode #1 and even Sophia was in a gown when she married an old friend. Rose never got that close.
9. Which well known actress said that she keeps the Lifetime network "in business"?

Answer: Patty Duke

While all could reasonably claim such a statement it was former Oscar winning Duke who got there first to say so. It really does seem that Patty Duke is in over 50% of the movies they show on there. In my defense, I don't watch those, though.

Answer: suck pearls

Julia had no business with that and kicked him out pronto. The final, and more appropriate, photo spread was about the REAL "women" who lived in the south. I hope this was some fun for you Lifetime viewers.
