Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first episode of "Star Trek: Voyager's" fourth season, we are introduced to a Borg character, who will ultimately join the crew. Complete Seven of Nine's full designation.

Answer: Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01

Clearly it was going to be very long winded to say that every time she was addressed, so she was commonly referred to as "Seven of Nine" or just "Seven".

2. During the fourth series of "Star Trek: Voyager", we learned that there was something that Starfleet considered to be so dangerous that it must be destroyed at all costs, even overriding The Prime Directive. What was it called?

Answer: Omega

When "The Omega Directive" episode aired, the Federation and the Klingons were working together to fight the Dominion (see "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"). Duritanium is a material that was used in tricorders, doors and probes and therefore quite useful. Veritanium is made up.

We are told that Omega is a dangerously unstable substance, which destroys subspace when it explodes, making interstellar warp travel impossible.

3. The fourth season episode "Waking Moments," the crew of Voyager fall one at a time into a collective dream, and are unable to wake up. Chakotay uses his people's learned technique of 'lucid dreaming' to enter the dream while still being in control of himself. What image does Chakotay use as a trigger to remind himself that he is dreaming, in order to wake himself up?

Answer: Earth's moon

The collective dream state was induced on Voyager's crew members by an alien race that live their lives out in a dream state. With the rest of the crew 'captured' by these aliens, Chakotay manages to find their home planet, and threatens to destroy them with a photon torpedo if they do not release the crew.

4. In "Thirty Days", Tom Paris received a sentence of thirty days in the brig for helping a Monean circumvent his government's regulations. With little to do, except eat Neelix's leola root stew, what did Tom decide to do to pass the time?

Answer: composed a letter to his father

The Paris family would never be confused with the Waltons. Tom's father had high expectations but Tom wanted to follow his own path. While in the brig, he decided he wanted to honestly describe his life to his father.

This season five episode also marks the one and only appearance of the Delaney sisters (Jenny and Megan), who were talked into doing a "Captain Proton" serial as Demonica and Malicia, the "Twin Mistresses of Evil."

Question by CmdrK
5. Tom Paris plays the role of holodeck hero Captain Proton in the fifth season episode "The Bride of Chaotica!" The simulation inadvertently traps a number of photonic beings, who are legitimately endangered by the holodeck villain, Doctor Chaotica, and his minions. Who does Paris convince to play the role of Arachnia, Queen of the Spider People, to help defeat Doctor Chaotica?

Answer: Captain Janeway

The photonic lifeforms believed that they were making first contact with humans when they encountered the holodeck simulation. Caught up in the simulation, the only way that the Voyager crew can resolve the situation is to play out the simulation to the end.

Captain Janeway agrees to take on the role of Arachnia, who must agree to become Doctor Chaotica's bride, allowing her to get close to the villain and disable him with her pheromone attack.

6. Flying a shuttlecraft through an ion storm, B'Elanna Torres had a death-like experience and found herself, and her mother, on the Klingon "Barge of the Dead" (from the season six episode of the same name). What was the destination of the barge?

Answer: Gre'thor (hell)

The barge took the souls of the dishonored to Gre'thor. On Voyager, B'Elanna was released from the coma but wanted to be put back into it to return to the barge. By going back, Torres believed she could accept her mother's dishonor as her own and save her mother from Gre'thor. In the end, the experience was seen as a metaphor of B'Elanna's dislike of her Klingon heritage and a chance for her to redeem herself.

"Paq'batlh" actually refers to an ancient set of Klingon scrolls. "bImoHqu'" is Klingon for "You're very ugly."

Question by CmdrK
7. In "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy", the Doctor daydreams about being in command. When some aliens access the Doctor's program, they believe his dreams to be reality and plan an attack, forcing the Doctor to take command for real. Which 'invisible weapon' does the Doctor order Tuvok to arm, causing the aliens to flee?

Answer: Photonic Cannon

Of course, the Photonic Cannon doesn't exist, but as the aliens have 'seen' it destroy a Borg sphere through the Doctor's dreams, they decide it is safer to run away than to continue with their attack.

As a result of the Doctor's performance, Captain Janeway agrees to explore the possibility of emergency command subroutines being added to the Doctor's programme.

Question by Daddy19.
8. "Tsunkatse" is a sixth-season episode where Tuvok and Seven of Nine have been captured and forced to participate in gladiator-style arena games. In Seven's first match, she is pitted against a large Pendari man who defeats her. Which wrestler guest starred as her opponent?

Answer: The Rock

The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) made one of his first appearances on a television show that was NOT specifically wrestling-world-produced. His only two prior appearances were the previous year on "That 70s Show" and "The Net".

As one can imagine, The Rock's script was not overly strenuous, with such lines as "I'm trembling" in response to Seven's warning him of her Borg strength, and in response to her statement "Resistance is futile" he eloquently retorts, "So is all your talk."

Question by reedy
9. As the USS Voyager journeyed closer to home they discovered Talaxian lifesigns near their course. Upon investigation, they found five-hundred Talaxians living and prospering in an asteroid. Neelix fell in love with a woman there. What was her name?

Answer: Dexa

In the season seven episode "Homestead", the Talaxians were refugees from the Haakonian Order's war with Talax. Faced with the asteroid's destruction by miners, Neelix encouraged, and helped, the Talaxians stand up for their home, finding a soulmate in Dexa. He decided to leave Voyager and stay with her.

This episode was a surpise to many of us Voyager fans; we expected Neelix to continue on to Earth with the crew. In later interviews, cast members said they consider this episode to be the real end of the series. Jeri Ryan said she, and others, were moved to tears during the episode, especially when Neelix (Ethan Phillips) made his final walk past his fellow crew members to the shuttlebay.

Question by CmdrK
10. In the final episode of "Star Trek: Voyager", Vice Admiral Janeway arrives from the future to help her younger self and the crew get home faster than she did. Before she changed the timeline, how long did it take Admiral Janeway to get Voyager home?

Answer: 23 years

With the Vice Admiral's help, Captain Janeway and her crew succeed in returning USS Voyager to the alpha quadrant.

In "Endgame", the role of the Borg Queen is again played by Alice Krige (who first played the role in "Star Trek: First Contact").
