The people of Wyoming were so outraged when he was sentenced to prison, the governor later pardoned him. Growing up two hours from Cheyenne, I remember this case vividly.

Truman Capote was a childhood friend of Haper Lee and was the inspiration for the role of Dill in her classic, "To Kill a Mockingbird."
