The cops come to process Jason's body after the vicious attack in his house. Jillian is interrogated by the police but she isn't much help. The detectives are suspicious of her but there simply wasn't anything to go on except suspicion. After they leave, Jill heads to the basement and locates her flipbook of Pretzel Jack, perhaps linking the image she created with the man from behind the door. That night, Jill takes a walk outside and her neighbour sympathizes with her, asking her about what happened.

He recommends that she try lucid dreaming to search for answers in her subconscious.

Jillian and Tom both attend Jason's funeral though Jill can't get the image of Pretzel Jack out of her head. In the coming days, Tom seems distraught. He and Jill, in mourning, discuss the supernatural and things they can't explain, but he doesn't believe. Jill continues to see images of a door in her childhood closet and remembers seeing someone emerge from it. Taking a drive, Jill ends up stopping by at her old childhood home and, surprisingly, the owner invites her in.

The owner of Jill's childhood home invites Jill in for cookies and the two talk about the house and Jill's father, who used to work in the local neighbourhoods. She used to see his signs around. Jill asks if she can see her old room, and when the homeowner goes to grab the phone, she lets herself investigate, climbing the spiralling staircase up to the second floor and stepping foot inside.

She ends up looking into the closet, but the homeowner calls up to her, preventing her from investigating any further.

Out at a park, Tom hands a toy Gumby to a small child in a stroller before quickly leaving. The mother finds it and quickly rushes her child away. The owner of Jillian's childhood home, meanwhile, takes her cat for a walk while Jillian watches from her car, waiting for the right moment to sneak into the woman's house with a hidden, spare key.

She races up to the bedroom and into the closet to check for what she knows is probably there, and when she tears away the wallpaper, sure enough, she finds a blue door with a white handprint on it hidden behind a thin layer of drywall.

When she opens it, there's a body inside.

Tom later asks Jillian if everything is okay asks her to tell him what she's thinking, but she doesn't really let up (despite his urging). He asks why she went to Jason's house the night he was killed as well, but she doesn't tell that either. Tom gets up and heads out of the bedroom, and when Jillian gets out of bed she doesn't notice Pretzel Jack walking through the adjacent ensuite bathroom.

She does, however, find him staring at her through the crack in the bathroom door. When Tom arrives to protect her, brandishing a knife, it appears that there's no one there with them.

Jillian speaks to her therapist again, this time stating that she believes she made Pretzel Jack into a real person when she was a child and he emerged from the door in her closet. Her therapist believes that she created him when her father left and Jillian feels that there is something wrong, especially when she's paying him to hear her out and all he can do is prescribe Xanax and Ambien for her issues.

As she leaves angrily, the lights flicker. Jillian returns home to find Ian outside once again and this time she agrees with him that a neighbourhood watch might be a good idea.

She thanks him for listening to her and he reminds her to try lucid dreaming.

Ian invites Jillian in for a drink to discuss the concerns she has about the door and Pretzel Jack and she explains that she thinks she invited him into her life. He appeared when her family was going through a rough time and she knows he's the same as when she was a little girl because of how distinctive he is. Ian describes clowns as healers or guardians who live in the present, not the past or future. Jill recounts what happened-- she got into a fight with Jason and the clown appeared. Ian asks if there's anyone else, Jill might have gotten angry with in the past and she realizes that she got into a fight with her therapist before she came home.

They rush to his office to ensure he's alright and, as it turns out, he's fine.

Tom heads out for a drive and meets with Ms. Vanessa Moss about the child he saw in the park. The child, as it turns out, is Sarah Winter's, but Tom knows that the baby looks just like him as well. They both agree he shouldn't have gone to see the child, but there's definitely grief there. Ms. Moss brings Tom to another room in her house and urges him to find his silence, leaving him alone to meditate.

She returns to her office and, unbeknownst to him, watches via a hidden camera. He changes, grabs earplugs, and descends into a sensory deprivation pool.

Jillian and Ian return home and Ian encourages Jill to finish her conversation with him. He tries to make her feel better by saying that when he was young, he also had an imaginary friend that he drew. The man he drew, however, was 'The Tall Man', and all of his Crayola crayons were his friends.
As their talk continues, Ian asks Jill about her father who, as they both know, still makes subdivisions in the city. The topic is a sore sport for Jill and she departs soon after.

When Jill gets home she pours herself a drink and opens Tom's laptop to find an incoming call coming in. She answers it, from someone logged as 'S', and it turns out to be an angry Sarah, who tells Tom, who she believes to be on the other end, never to come near her family again. Jill, angered by this, doesn't notice as the lights in the house begin to flicker. Ms. Moss, in her house, doesn't notice as a knife is pulled from the knife block in her kitchen.

She does hear a knocking at her office door, however, and opens it to find no one there.

She follows the sound of movement out into the hall and witnesses someone-- Pretzel Jack-- peeking from another room before grabbing a gun from her desk drawer. She shoots him when he walks through her hall, but he doesn't relent, instead walking upside-down on his hands and feet and chasing her. Tom hears nothing inside the pool, and doesn't notice as Pretzel Jack quietly enters the room and stands over him until the last second. Jack has the upper hand though, and starts to drown Tom in the water.
