Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Go way back to the early seventies and you'll find that I played the role of the husband/father on the immensely popular "The Brady Bunch". Who am I?

Answer: Robert Reed

Robert Reed played the father for the series "The Brady Bunch", which was another successful sitcom from the mind of Sherwood Schwartz, creator of "Gilligan's Island". Reed's TV wife was played by Florence Henderson. The theme of the show concentrated on the trials and tribulations of a blended family which was formed when Robert's character, Mike Brady, a man raising three sons, marries Carol Ann Martin, a woman raising three daughters.

The series ran for a little more than four and one-half years from September, 1969, until March, 1974.
2. In a TV sitcom, in which no last name was given to the series' family, I played the husband and father of three, with twins arriving during the seventh season. Which actor was married to actress Courtney Thorne-Smith's character in a program that ran for eight seasons in the 2000s? (The actor's name is also in the program's title.)

Answer: Jim Belushi

Jim Belushi played the part of a typical sitcom father, who was always finding himself in messy situations. It's reported that his character in the show, who also had the name Jim, was actually quite similar to his real life counterpart. "According To Jim" had a successful run of eight seasons, from October 2001 through to June 2009.
3. I returned to my old school to teach a bunch of Sweathogs in the 70s sitcom, "Welcome Back, Kotter". My wife was played by Marcia Strassman, who starred as Julie Kotter. Who am I?

Answer: Gabe Kaplan

I'm Gabe Kaplan and kept my first name, Gabe, for my part in the program, as the teacher Gabe Kotter. The show's theme was based on a former student who returned to his high school alma mater to teach the same remedial classes he partook in as a student.

The students, of which one was played by John Travolta, were known as "Sweathogs". The nickname referred to students who attended classes on the top floor of the school, known as the fictional James Buchanan High in Brooklyn, New York. The series ran from September of 1975 until June of 1979.
4. There were many actors who played the role of husbands on the TV series, "The Sopranos". But, who was the actor that played Silvio Dante, a man who in real life, is a guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band?

Answer: Steven Van Zandt

Steven Van Zandt, who is the lead guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, played Silvio Dante in the role Tony Soprano's right hand man. His real life partner of thirty years, Maureen Van Zandt, had the role of Gabriella Dante, his on-screen spouse. "The Sopranos" had an extremely successful run of eighty-six episodes over six seasons, which is reflected in its twenty-one Emmys and five Golden Globes victories.
5. I've had a successful career in film, but I'm probably better known for playing Dan Conner, Roseanne Barr's TV husband on the long-running series "Roseanne". What's my given name?

Answer: John Goodman

It was big man John Goodman who tolerated playing Roseanne's husband from October 1988 until May 1997. During the show's run, Dan and Roseanne Conner and their four kids were noted for handling a variety of risque subjects from drug abuse to teenage pregnancy and everything in between. "Roseanne" was ranked in the #35 spot by "TV Guide" on their list of The 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.
6. Which chubby hubby, who played Doug Heffernan, was Leah Remini's better half on the TV comedy "King of Queens?

Answer: Kevin James

It's Kevin James who plays Doug Heffernan, TV spouse to Carrie, as performed by Leah Remini. With James playing a delivery driver and Remini acting as a law secretary, the show is fraught with hilarious situations, of which some revolve around Doug's insatiable love for food. "The King of Queens" enjoyed nearly nine years of success, running from September, 1998, until May of 2007.
7. Being from a family of comedic brothers, I was one of them who starred on the crazy "In Living Color" before I tried my hand in a few movies. Who was the actor who played Michael Kyle in the funny TV sitcom, "My Wife and Kids"?

Answer: Damon Wayans

It was Damon Wayans, of the fabulous Wayans brothers comedians, who acted the part of hubby Mr. Kyle alongside Mrs. Janet Kyle, played by Tisha Campbell-Martin. Wayans' experience and unique brand of humor was what gave the series its comedic brand. An interesting point about "My Wife and Kids" was that no episodes ever centered around a major holiday, which was considered odd for a sitcom of this show's length.

The program ran from March, 2001, until May, 2005 and filmed 122 episodes.
8. Who played Dick Solomon, the extraterrestrial, who was head of the household on the television show "3rd Rock From the Sun"?

Answer: John Lithgow

In this TV situational comedy, John Lithgow plays Dick Solomon, head of the household to a family of four extraterrestrials who were sent on an expedition to the planet Earth. The family regularly reports to 'Big Giant Head', their other worldly leader, who is voiced by William Shatner. A funny ploy used on the show is that the first names of the three males in the Solomon family are Tom, Dick, and Harry. "3rd Rock" ran from 1996 until 2001.

*Note: it has been brought to my attention that Dick Solomon was not the husband of Sally. Since this was caught after the quiz went online, I have tried to make up for the error by referring to him as "head of the household" rather than a husband or 'hubby'. Sorry for any confusion this has caused and I hope my changes are acceptable to those playing the quiz.
9. "8 Simple Rules" was the last TV program graced by this actor's skills as he passed away September 11, 2003, during the show's second season. Who was this man who played Paul Hennessy, Katey Sagal's husband on the show?

Answer: John Ritter

"8 Simple Rules for Dating My Daughter" was sadly the last series in which accomplished actor John Ritter would be part of. In the series, Ritter played Paul Hennessy, husband of Cate Hennessy which was played by former "Married...With Children" star, Katey Sagal. Ritter died in the hospital from a torn aorta after reporting feeling ill upon completion of the rehearsal for the show's episode four of season two. Ritter died less than a year after the series began in September, 2002.

Despite efforts at keeping "8 Simple Rules" going after his death, the show was cancelled in May, 2005, due to low ratings.
10. Go back to the decade of the seventies and you'll find this actor playing husband to Michael Learned, who acted the part of his wife, Mrs. Olivia Walton. Who was the man who played Mr. John Walton Sr. in the long running family show, "The Waltons"?

Answer: Ralph Waite

Ralph Waite played the character of John Walton Sr., for a total of nine seasons before the family drama was cancelled. His on screen wife, Olivia Walton, also played the part of his wife for the entire run of series episodes. The show was created by Earl Hamner, and it was his voice that viewers heard at the start and beginning of the episodes which he did from the viewpoint of the series' oldest character, John Walton Jr. (John Boy). Beginning in 1972, the series covered two hundred and ten episodes and seven TV movies until it was cancelled in 1981.
