Reportedly, the family moved here from Galveston after George Sr., who was the football coach for a high school in Galveston, was fired for trying to rat out illegal players being used on his team or others. He is now Medford's coach and his beer drinking may have something to do with what happened in Galveston.

2. Who plays Mary Cooper on this show?

Answer: Zoe Perry

Zoe Perry plays Sheldon's devoutly religious mother, Mary Cooper. Laurie Metcalf plays her in "The Big Bang Theory", and is Zoe's mother. Lin Shaye and Allison Janney both played religious fanatic single mothers in the movies "Detroit Rock City" and "Hairspray", respectively.
