Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From which enemy can Ayla Charm the Mop, the weakest weapon Crono can wield?

Answer: Nu

One could be fought in the Cursed Woods in 600 AD, six more in the hidden room in 12,000 BC, and more in the Hunting Range in 65,000,000 BC when it's raining. The Mop makes an interesting challenge item for defeating Lavos with only Crono's joke weapon.
2. The player cannot race Johnny without what character in their party?

Answer: Crono

This is likely to happen if the player returns there before reviving Crono. He will ask where the one with the spiky hair is and decline a race. Achieving a perfect score of 2,371 in the Race Log is one of the most difficult tasks in "Chrono Trigger" and involves using Mode 2 and bumping Johnny repeatedly as he tries to pass Crono.

The Power Tab is considered the most valuable reward and only requires a score of 1,500 to earn.
3. Crono is given the "privilege" of escorting Marle around the Millennial Fair until Lucca's invention is ready. What does Marle say when Crono participates in the soda guzzling contest?

Answer: "You're very competitive, Crono!"

While this button mashing challenge is more difficult than the mandatory eating contest against Ayla, the reward is a paltry five Silver Points. The quote "I think you've had enough sugar for today" belong to the bartender in Choras, addressing Toma, who is fond of soda pop. Both are seen as censorship workarounds around the obvious allusion to alcohol.
4. When reaching level 99, we can fight Spekkio's ultimate form, a pink Nu. What is the reward for defeating him?

Answer: 10 MegaElixirs, 10 Power Tabs, 10 Magic Tabs, and 10 Speed Tabs

All of Spekkio's rewards include at least one tab, though the best rewards is understandably the one for defeating his ultimate form. The most common methods of grinding to level 99 are the conveyor belt in the Geno Dome before completing Robo's sidequest or the room early in the Black Omen with enemies that respawn upon re-entering the room, both for the good experience they yield as well as the fact that the reward for defeating them is a Hyper Ether, which will restore the MP used for whatever spell the player used to defeat them, most likely a multi-target spell to end the battle instantly.
5. When a stat is maxed out, how many stars appear over it on the menu screen?

Answer: Two

Every stat - including a character's level - maxes out at 99, with the exception of speed which, despite being arguably the most important stat in the game, maxes out at 16.
6. What is the attack often used by Queen Zeal and Spekkio's ultimate form, sending all characters' HP down to 1?

Answer: Hallation

The Nu is notable for an attack that also sends a party member's HP down to one. The challenge in the six Nu fight in 12,000 BC lies in the fact that the Nus will randomly use either an attack that sends your HP down to one or does exactly one damage.
7. It is required for players to retrieve the party's gear when escaping from the Black Bird.

Answer: False

The player can reacquire the weaponry and equipment of all party members along with their items and money, though it is not required. A text box will pop up as the player is leaving, warning the player they left some confiscated items behind, but they can reply "Don't care" and continue.
8. The Sanctuary features a hidden room dedicated to whom?

Answer: Magus

The Sanctuary contains several optional rooms of note, one in which the player will be attacked when examining a drawer and acquiring the Naga-Ette Bromide. Another is a dining room with a Diablos on his break, who will go back on duty, first heading to the hidden room with Magus' statue.

The player can still enter said room without following the Diablos there. The room contains two treasure chests: one with a Guardian Bangle and the other with a Speed Belt. If the player overstays their welcome there, they will be attacked by the monsters worshipping Magus.
9. The Programmer's Ending is arguably the most difficult to achieve. Which of these is not true about it?

Answer: There is a reference to MLB teams by a staff member

Hikori Chiba's line of dialogue is: "So, which is it: Raiders or Cowboys?" Both are NFL teams. This ending could be accessed by defeating Lavos at the beginning of the game at the Millennial Fair or by defeating Lavos by beating his overpowered Ocean Palace form. The credits zoom by as they scroll, to suit the player's affinity for haste, as a staff member says.
10. When critiquing various men in the Slideshow Ending, which does Marle chastise for "plucking his eyebrows"?

Answer: Cyrus

Lucca responds that "He's still a hunk." Marle and Lucca also has negative commentary regarding Kino's "duck walk", Johnny's hairstyle, and Toma, saying he probably has a dozen girlfriends.
11. Marle and her father have a falling out over her treatment toward Crono. What is King Guardia's reaction to Marle's attempt to reconcile with a Jerky?

Answer: Anger; he has high cholesterol

The main use of the 9,900-GP item is to give the family of the Mayor in Porre so her descendants grow up to be grateful, outstanding citizens. There is another item of the same name whipped up by the chef in 600 AD to aid his brother on Zenan Bridge.
12. How many different spawn points are there for the Nu in 65,000,000 BC?

Answer: Four

They basically spawn in the corners. When farming Nus, it is possible to check all spawn points of the Nu except lower left in one rain cycle, but requires almost exact position of your starting point and quick, precise movement. Speak to the Nu upon defeating him the first time and he will give you the Third Eye, which doubles your evasion. You will earn 3 Fangs, Horns, Petals, and Feather with each defeat.

The bottom-left Nu is most rarely seen.
13. Crono's revival is a touching cutscene. Two party members can hug him when he comes to. Who will hug him if both Lucca and Marle are in the party?

Answer: Marle

Lucca will hug him if Marle is not present. But, if neither are there, no hug for Crono - whoever is the party lead will give the same speech regardless.
14. When trying to avoid a moving enemy, an encounter will trigger unless you are moving.

Answer: True

This oddity is heavily used to manipulate encounters in speedruns. For example, in the vertical section of Magus' Tower, the rolling ball can be avoided by standing still rather than waiting for it to pass on the ladder. This mechanic is the opposite of other Square games such as "Final Fantasy VI", which bypass encounters if the NPC and player are moving on the same frame.
15. You can change the name of characters at the computer in the Keeper's Dome in 2300 AD.

Answer: False

You can change your spaceship Epoch's name there. A Nu will do you the service of allowing you to change your characters' names at the Laruba Ruins in 65,000,000 BC, along with gifting you a Silver Rock to unlock a Tech.
