Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many towns are present in the game, excluding all the sectors in Midgar?

Answer: Twelve

The towns are Kalm, Fort Condor, Junon, Costa del Sol, North Corel, Gongaga, Cosmo Canyon, Nibelheim, Rocket Town, Wutai, Icicle Inn, and Mideel.

Even though Bone Village implies it being a town, it is actually just an excavation site. Furthermore, while the City of the Ancients once may have been a big city, its current state in the game is more of an ancient ruin.
2. Kalm: An old man is living in Kalm (he is sometimes referred to as the Kalm traveler) and is searching for various hard-to-find items in the game. What is the reward for handing him the Desert Rose?

Answer: A Gold Chocoboo

There is a locked chest in the old man's house that cannot be opened. It is a leftover segment from a scrapped side-quest with a travelling salesman from Gongaga village. The chest was allegedly supposed to contain the Titan materia.
3. Fort Condor: In Fort Condor you help fighting the Shinra attacks by playing a real-time strategy mini-game. The game is mandatory to play once, but it can be played up to fourteen times for several different rewards. One unique reward is a weapon, but which one is it?

Answer: Superball

The Condor mini-game has was initially supposed to have another layer of game mechanics, where wins and losses actually mattered. If the player lost too many times, or the fort ran out of funds, the fort would fall. But since these mechanics were scrapped, the funding doesn't actually do anything and it does not matter if the player is defeated in battle.
4. Junon: Following the attack on the city by Sapphire Weapon, one of the two bars in town decide to close down as all the regulars died. Which one is it?

Answer: Shinra Member's bar

After getting the Buggy it is possible to fight random battles against tough enemies inside Junon which yield a lot of XP, AP and Gil (compared to other enemies at this stage of the game). The random battles are enabled by pressing the alarm in the Junon Path outside the elevator going down to the underwater reactor.
5. Costa Del Sol: In this resort town many familiar faces can be seen hanging around. Which familiar face is sitting at the bar in the Bar del Sol?

Answer: Mukki

An internet rumour circulated for many years that once you bought the Shinra Mansion in Costa del Sol, you would be able to decorate it with the 1/35 Soldier items - If you managed to get a full set of twelve that is. The rumour probably started because people were trying to find more purpose to buying the expensive, but (almost) useless Villa.
6. North Corel: North Corel is a small settlement of refuges from the city of Corel. The stores sell a limited amount of items, but the weapons store does sell an uncommon throwable item. Which is it?

Answer: Molotov

Corel was destroyed by Shinra troops as a result of an explosion at the Corel Mako Reactor. Shinra blamed the citizens of Corel for the incident, though they had no proof. It is never mentioned in the game if any from Corel was actually guilty of the explosion.

But selling Molotovs at the weapons shop DOES hint some rebellious behaviour. As for the other items; T/S Bomb is a drop from the enemy Flapbeat, who appears on the fields near Corel and Gold Saucer. Grenade and S-Mine can be bought at various stores and are dropped by various Shinra infantry.
7. Gongaga: The Titan Summon materia can be found at the destroyed reactor, but another materia can also be found near town. Which materia is it?

Answer: Deathblow

There are no hints of the Titan materia position within the destroyed reactor in the game and many people tend to miss it during their first play-through. A traveling salesman was initially designed to hint the player towards the Titan materia, but he was cut from the game due to time constraints.
8. Cosmo Canyon: After getting the Highwind it is possible to enter the back room of the item shop, where a unique magic materia can be found. Which materia?

Answer: Full Cure

You get the destruct materia from Sephiroth at the Shinra Mansion and later in the game you can buy it at Fort Condor and in Mideel. Contain can be found in Mideel and Shield is found in the Northern Cave.
9. Nibelheim: When visiting Nibelheim a note can be found on the table in Tifa's room that covers a clone activity report from Hojo. However, if you read the note during Cloud's flashback it contains a letter from a young guy who left town. Who is the author of that letter?

Answer: The son of the guy that runs the General Store

Tifa's diary was also considered to be readable during the flashback. Its purpose was to add some information to Tifa and Cloud's childhoods.
10. Rocket Town: A small town built around the Shinra Rocket that was a part of their space program until it got discontinued. What is the name of the town inn?

Answer: Shanghai Inn

Shildra Inn and Starlet pub are both from Cosmo Canyon. The Rocket Inn is a name I very creatively made up.
11. Wutai Town: The town is optional for the player to visit, but it contains several side-quests and some neat items. One specific item can be found in a house full of cats, by climbing some steps and opening a hidden chest. Which item is it?

Answer: HP Absorb

MP Absorb is in a chest in the items store. Steal As Well can be obtained in a cave at the Da-chao statue. Hairpin is a weapon for Red XIII and it is his only long range weapon in the game.
12. Icicle Inn: It snows year round in this small town due to it being so close to the North Crater. A small family has recently moved to the town (you get the snowboard from the child of the family). Which town do the mother mention they moved from?

Answer: Mideel

The house behind the weapons shop contains interesting video segments regarding Gast, Ifalna and Aeris, plus information on the Weapon monsters. Furthermore, in the weapons shop, a black materia model is placed on the top of the stairs - although it is not accessible in the game without using hacks.
13. Mideel: A small town in the southern parts of the game. Prior to the destruction of the town it is possible to complete a small side-quest, by finding an old key and use it on a door inside the weapons shop. The reward is an accessory ring. But which one is it?

Answer: Cursed Ring

The Cursed Ring buffs the stats of the wearer greatly, but also inflicts Death Sentence at the start of each battle. There are, however, ways to combat the negative effect; like combining an Added Effect with the Destruct or Odin materia. Doing so makes this a neat accessory.
14. Sector 5: The Sector 5 slums in Midgar is where Aeris was raised by Elmyra. In one of the houses, you are able to steal 5 Gil from a sleeping child by going through his drawers. But if you choose to leave the money, the child will award you with an item later in the game. What item is it?

Answer: Turbo Ether

Midgar is a giant city divided into eight sectors. Each sector is named after its Mako reactor. During the game you get to visit five of the sectors: (1) and (4) are the reactors that AVALANCHE blow up. (5) is where Aeris was raised. (6) contains the infamous Wall Market. (7) holds the base for AVALANCHE, but is later destroyed by Shinra. And (8) you get to explore briefly after blowing up reactor 1.
15. Sector 7: The town holds the Seventh Heaven bar which serves as a hideout for AVALANCHE. The front of the building contains two large signs. The upper sign has a word written in five capital letters with a yellow font. What does the word say?

Answer: TEXAS

I have no idea why the signs says TEXAS or why the building is stylised in an old-school texan way. According to a developer, who worked on the game, they were given a lot of freedom during development. This may explain some of the weird visuals you encounter in the game.
